Stopped into the Chelsea apothecary today (May 26) and the sole staff member was on FaceTime yukking it up with someone. He stuck his head out from behind the counter when he heard me come in and tried to argue that he was on a professional call. But the tone of that call was not at all professional and he had actually been cackling with laughter. Poor service at that point and from that point onward. I had a question about a gift, about the dark rum votive, but he tried to tell me that what I had wasn't dark rum. Totally baffling, weak product knowledge and his entire demeanor throughout our interactions was so foul and surly. Not to mention a piss poor attitude. The BEST body care shop and products that focus part of their effort on men. I've been using all of their stuff for a decade now and every time I visit this shop when I'm in town the service is second to none. You really can't go wrong with any of their products. Obviously the Dark Rum and Eucalyptus body washes are classics now and I buy gallon versions of them yearly. I also use their deodorants, face washes, eye creams, and so on. I've also been a big fan of their candles - can't get enough of Dark Rum obviously but tomato is a close second! My favorite product of theirs is their face mask. Not only does it do the job it's a genuine pleasure to put it on because I think the almond oil in it gives the mask a natural almost macron-like smell that's like putting a desert on your face. This review is for an on-line delivery order. I discovered this product line, Malin + Goetz a few years ago when I rented a short term condo rental in Philadelphia. They supplied this product for bathroom use and it won me over. Immediately smelling the gentle scent in the bathroom was very pleasing, subtle and not overpowering. Yet it is easily one I can live with all the time, and I'm not big on scents. The fragrance that attracted me is "rum" and interesting in that it doesn't particularly smell like rum to me, more fresh and not heavy. Using the web site to navigate a purchase is simple and very user friendly. I had an account already so that did help. Placing my order was as easy as one, two, three...done. They immediately confirmed the order. I purchased two pump bottles of the "rum" hand and body wash and one bottle of the "bergamot" with subtle citrus overtones and keep both options for guests in a main bath if and when guests ever return! From a previous order I also keep a pump bottle of the vitamin b5 body lotion, not greasy and easy to apply. I also purchased a "rum" candle that I intend to use in the main part of the house to replicate that sensuous scent from Philadelphia. Great product. The only downside, and I don't blame them entirely, is they use FedEx and my package transversed back and forth across the United States before finally arriving after many days of waiting. read more

​SEVERELY LACKING in customer loyalty. To Whom It May Concern, Good Afternoon. I have just received my items and am excited to try them out. Upon reviewing my invoice/receipt, I would appreciate some clarification. ​1) Upon placing my order, I was given the opportunity to select THREE samples to try. I selected: a) NEW. ADVANCED RENEWAL MOISTURIZER; b) REPLENISHING FACE SERUM; c) VITAMIN B5 BODY MOISTURIZER. I only received the face serum & Body moisturizer. Is there a particular reason I didn't get the third sample? I ask bc no explanation was provided. Did someone 'forget' to include the third sample or was the decision simply to not include it... just because? I have made purchases in the past from and actual M+G store and received excellent service and got TONS of samples - anything I wanted... and few new things to try. However, online, I place an order and I can't even get the THREE samples promised? Not cool. 2) When I placed the order, part of the allure was that if I was to spend XXX dollars, which I well surpassed, I was to receive a free 'Mojito Lip Balm'. As you can also see from the invoice/ order slip, this was not included, either. Part of the perk for spending over $100 on products is because I would get to try new a new product. So, 1st, I was slighted with the advertised samples (mentioned above) and now, the 'extra goodie' i was looking forward to trying was not included, nor mentioned anywhere. Can someone explain the gap in communication. 3) Upon reviewing the receipt, am I to understand that if the product does not work for me, I cannot return it? The ONLY refund M+G permits is an 'exchange' or 'store credit' --- IF AND ONLY IF --- the package is returned unopened? So the customer can't even TRY a product from M+G? If the customer buys a product, tries it, and it doesn't work for their skin type, too bad? Is that really how I am to interpret the disclaimer on the receipt? The exact statement being, "Except where refunds are required by law, we will offer an exchange or store credit on unopened and unused items providing that goods are returned to us within 30 calendar days of receipt with proof of purchase". "Except where refunds are REQUIRED BY LAW"? Really? (i.e. "If we really have to, then fine. Otherwise, your money is ours once we get it'). What is the world kind of 'best practice' is this? These are not drug store products. M+G has a relatively high price point... but the company doesn't offer a return policy to get money back? Therefore, if a product doesn't work, bullying the customer into getting another product (by way of 'exchange' or 'store credit'), is not the way to gain customer loyalty. This policy is essentially saying, 'thanks for the money. We really don't care if you like it or not. Not our problem anymore'. Please correct me where I am misunderstanding this policy. On a work trip I swung by here to get some shave cream and other stuff...the staff was kinda more in a rush to push product on me to buy and get out than to chill and ask questions. I'm not happy with Malin and Goetz Customer Service. I contacted them (and sent photos) of the travel kit I purchased which cracked and leaked in my suitcase. The response was: This product remains one of our most popular and I have only received a few complaints regarding the caps. Unfortunately, the air pressure can cause the flip top to open during flight. Once the inner seal is removed, the top flip cap should be secured to ensure it doesn't pop open during transit. Once I responded with checking my first e-mail again (that the top CRACKED), I received this: this is one of our most popular products. The complaints we have regarding broken caps are very, very few and all have been associated with over tightening and or repeated removal and replacement of the cap. Not helpful whatsoever. Shouldn't a travel kit be sturdy enough not to crack in a suitcase? This has actually happened with the regular sized shampoo/conditioner bottles as well. Won't be purchasing from them if they tell their customers that damaged tops are normal if you open the bottle and tighten it too many times. read more

Andrew Goetz - background is in design , so he focuses on the aesthetics of the brand This is their Flagship store- though it is relatively a small store, their merchandising here is always displayed ever so flawless. I really do enjoy coming here since if I am lucky I can see BOB (English Bulldog) and JR (French Bulldog - it's so sad because he has a gimpy leg! Arf! ) Sometimes Matthew has them at the store and his two dogs are my absolute loves!!!!! ( They are too precious! ) But back to the products---I hear they have a really really good Body Scrub. I haven't tried it yet, but people swear by it. I am obsessed with LIP MOISTURIZERS-I never leave anywhere without carrying one. I have pretty much tried every brand imaginable and their Lip Moisturizer is my current must have lip essential. Their lip moisturizer does not make your dried lip appeared worse instead it shields it with a nice coating. Not only does it provide you a nice barrier, it also sinks down to your lips and moisturizes. I wear this everyday - usually alone but if I need to, I will use it underneath a lip gloss. I totally love how it helps your lip gloss or lipstick go on so smoothly. I also love their candles- DARK RUM, MOJITO, and their Jr Candle set!!!! I had a great experience at the SF store (Hayes Valley) with knowledgeable staffs who generously gave me a few samples of the advanced renewal cream, moisturizer and serum to try. I loved the products so much that during my recent trip to nyc, I stopped by the Chelsea store to pick up these products. I spent over $200; however, thinking back, I wished I'd waited and purchased these products from the friendly, knowledgeable staffs at the SF store. During my visit, I inquired about other products, but the staff either said they don't provide samples on certain products and gave me 2 other samples to brush me off. I first became very aware of Malin + Goetz products after my boyfriend got a haircut at Made Man nearby and they used M+G pomade in his hair. The next day, we ventured out to this Chelsea M+G store and purchased a jar of it ($20). The service here is what really stood out. We were greeted immediately and asked if we needed any help and the staff was all smiles from when we stepped in the door to when we stepped out. They even went as far as to tell us the door was a pull and not a push - maybe lots of people have issues around this for some reason or another. The nice lady behind the register asked if we wanted any samples and anyone who knows me well knows I love samples! After leaving the store, I looked in the bag and found a separate bag full, and I mean FULL, of samples (see picture). They were generous enough to give us literally two of every product they have in the store. I've already tried the jojoba face scrub and I'm loving it already. I use two M+G products in my regiment, and i must say I love them both - the Jojoba Face Scrub and the Peppermint Body Scrub. I'm particularly fond of the latter - after an exhaustive search for a good scrub this one is by far my favorite (yes, I tried Sabon...not worth the price!) The staff is funky and friendly and know their shit - I had a long chat about SPF in moisturizers with the saleswoman and learned a few things myself (and believe me - I know moisturizers). I also love that this tiny little store in Chelsea is their world headquarters and everything is made locally in New York. I've yet to try the services here, but as for the products, count me as a fan. Minus one star for the prices - which is why I only by my scrubs here. I'm a designer so I'm a sucker for awesome graphic design. Initially the packaging here lured me in. Great typography! It looks f-ing amazing in this store. I walked away with tons of samples and catalog, etc. to add to my design swipe vault. Turns out the product is high quality. Far better ingredients than Keihl's. I'm lucky I have never had any problems with acne or anything like that, but my skin is a tad sensitive, I can't use anything with fragrance... Everything here works well for me. I recently discovered this glorious product at Barney's but misplaced it and have been itching for another tube. The addiction is real. As a makeup artist (and a chick with a lotta lip) I can safely say that I've tried nearly every lip balm out there and nothing is comparable to M+G's. I was greeted by Arthur, a very informative and patient sales representative. He gave me a detailed walk through of their philosophy, products, and product versatility at Malin + Goetz. I ended up purchasing their grapefruit cleanser and eucalyptus deodorant along with a mojito lip balm. My only regret is not buying twelve lip balms. Arthur gave me a golden crap load of samples which I have been playing around with all week. I love their white interior. It is a tiny place but the layout is very practical and smart. My favorite is Grapefruit face cleanser. Their lipbalm is also popular. I have been a fan of the product line for quite a number of years. First, the products work. That's probably the most important element to consider. The packaging is incredible. A M+G opened up right around my work, and I had been eyeing it for a couple of months. What was this little store? What products occupied its shelves? My curiosity got the best of me, and I went online to check out their products. The reviews were so good that I could not resist walking in to the Madison Ave location the other day. The salespeople were uber nice, and it was a very good experience. For someone who hates making chat with salespeople, I have to say that I probably could've stayed in the store beyond my welcome, exchanged numbers, invited these people to be social media friends, and gone out for drinks; they were that nice. Ivana stood back until I asked a couple of questions, and then we became fast friends. She walked me through the skin products and the haircare, and stocked me with a more than generous try of samples. I bought a cream for my exzema prone daughter and the grapefruit facewash for me. That night, I tried the detox face mask, and the next day, I had to go back to M+G to get it because I fell in love with it and the way my skin felt so clean. I DID spend a nice chunk of change the two days I visited, (I also bought the peppermint shampoo and cilantro conditioner, as well as a lip moisturizer....ack!) but as a person who is experiencing some change in her skin's elasticity, (I'm turning 40 soon....) I am in search of things that make my skin feel healthier, and I feel hopeful about these products. I also love that they were made with the sensitive skin person in mind. I say YES, to Malin+Goetz. On any given day, you may be assisted by one of the founders or greeted by their cute, friendly dogs,Bob and Junior, at the front of the store. I swear by their shaving cream (the best I've found) and body wash -- and have added their Lime Tonic cologne, sage-scented hairstyling product, and sunscreen to my reportoire of ablutions as well. read more

I was so impressed with the products and that I made a point to go to the store and see what they had to offer. During my first visit, I had a great time with Nikki. She was incredibly friendly, outgoing, and extremely knowledgable on the M+G products, and which ones were right for me. As a guy, I didn't know exactly what I was looking for, but she patiently guided me through the process and helped me pick out a few things that three months later, I still love. On my second visit I worked with Nicole. She was also extremely knowledgeable, had a great sense of humor, and answered my questions on skincare. She sampled a new product on me and also helped my friend through the process. This is now my go-to spot for skincare! read more

Eh, I'm not a fan of this spot, and disagree with the previous reviewer about Malin picking up "that personal apothecary touch" Khiel's lost - they practically sell this stuff by the gallon at Barney's for god's sake. My roommate in college was a fan, until he actually read the ingredients of the face wash and realized he was paying an extra 30 dollars for already cheap soap ingredients. And the service is supposed to be top notch?
