After dinner in Bellingham we wanted to ice cream and found Mallard ice cream on Yelp. It's a cute store with board games and rubber ducks. The service is great. I got Chocolate ice cream and loved it. Highly recommend Mallard if you are in Bellingham.

Eff Baskin Robbins. This is the place for ice cream. Lots of fun flavor combinations and more samples to try. We settled on two flavors. 1) Super chocolate. This was really good. It was a nice intense dark chocolate flavor, but not too sweet. This was a perfect finish to our evening. 2) Cereal milk. This was awesome. Think a nice bowl of fruity pebbles. You let it soak and eat the cereal and then turn the milk into ice cream. I could eat a bowl of this daily. Thank you Mallard for making this happen!

Such a fun place to get some ice cream. They have cute rubber ducks all over the place. The ice cream flavors are both typical and unique. They had a ube cheese flavor that I had to try, and they do give samples! I was going to get my normal coffee flavor, but I tried a sample of the ube cheese and cardamom. Both fantastic! They allow split scoops, so I was able to get both flavors. So, so tasty! The scoops are big, to me, so I couldn't finish but every bite was delicious! Def stop in if you're in the area.

Wow, I came across some flavors I've never seen before like Thai lime ice tea and acerola berry. I opted for the honey almond butter and it didn't disappoint. Had some almond chunks and honey. So good! Service was quick and friendly.

Such a cute shop! Line was long but so worth the wait. So many fun & interesting flavor combinations you want to try them all. I ordered the vanilla black pepper & it was oddly delicious.

Super cool ice cream shop! I love ice cream shops that experiment with unique flavors. Mallard's even have the local school district involved and kids can submit their concoctions! I tried the "honey chamomile" - it was heaven!! The shop is huge, plenty of seating, and a ton of rubber ducks and even, canned sardines! Service was slower than I'm use to, but I'd imagine because everybody is sampling the unique flavors!

Always fun to experience flavor extravaganza of unique and delicious proportions. Today didn't disappoint with crazy food flavors like pomegranate, ghost pepper and honey, or lavender brownie- which had the best brownie chunks ever. Ambiance is chill. Though it can get busy in a minute. Worth the detour no matter where your destination.

Great dessert after having dinner at Bantam(they give you a 20% off coupon for here after having dinner). Walking in it's a fun atmosphere with plenty of seats. They have a rotation of ice cream. I like that you can come back and the menu can be completely different. The guy behind the register was nice and helped us make our decisions. I was between Super Chocolate and Honey Almond Butter, he recommended I go different and go with the honey Almond. My wife went out of her comfort zone and selected Key Lime(he also helped her decide). Mine was delicious like sounded weird but was perfect. My wife did not like hers much. I didn't either. It was tart, but also had crunchy stuff in it that did not taste like crust or cookie. We did not eat that one. Instead shared mine which was in a waffle cone. Great place to go after a good dinner. I'm not an ice cream guy, but enjoyed it very much

I may have been a little slow to relate the rubber ducky theme with the name Mallard. The lines are often long here which gives you some time to enjoy the little ducks and find some favorites. You also have a chance to look over the list of current flavors and decide what to sample and what to eat! I like their "indecision" options for 2 or 3 half scoops. Can't decide on which two? Don't worry they have that covered too. The lines do move fairly quick. You can sample a flavor first if you like (with metal spoons!) and then make your order. I did the rum raisin and the sour cream gingerbread. Not a lot of flavor with the rum raisin, but enjoyed the gingerbread.

Cute ice cream place with lots of board games and place to grab ice cream with friends, kids and hanging out as a group. I got the ice cream flight and they tasted so so good! Mango, Vanilla, Dark Chocolate and Cookie Dough. All of them tasted great, my fav was definitely the Mango, don't miss if you love Mango

It really is hard not to love this place! While the political affiliation is certainly apparent, their ice cream appeals, to everyone! They have an amazing number of flavors the range from familiar to " how did they come up with that?", but the common theme is that all of them are delicious. We get up there every year or so and the rotation is quite amazing. The Incorporation of new flavors, stuff that is popular at the time. (i.e ghost pepper) and different takes on classic flavors is pretty epic! The service is always quick. The line is generally back near the door, there's a nice seating area inside as well as some outside. It's also the perfect spot to grab and go as the downtown area is ever interesting! If you haven't been here before, it's a must check out if you are up in the area!

In my opinion, I think Mallards is a very good option for ice cream if you want to go somewhere. I like the fact that you can have samples, a lot of ice cream places offer that but also, a lot do not. They have flavors that are very exotic, and fun to take a sample of. They also have the classics, and some normal flavors that you would probably see at other shops. Their classic vanilla is fantastic, as well as their other flavors. Some of the more exotic ones are fun to try, but not actually get. Though, they make up for that with amazing service. It was amazing before COVID, and is still good now. I like the fact that they are very different from other places, and give very weird flavors, and that they stand out. The fact that they also offer half scoops, is pretty cool. Because sometimes you just want to have two flavors, but not two scoops, so I would pride them on that. Now, there is a window where you can go up and order, and is a good turn on service compared to some other restaurants. They work fast, and are pretty COVID safe, which I like. They make sure that they keep you safe, and themselves safe. Overall, I only have one complaint, that is pretty good considering I am a pretty tough judge. They had a lot of seating before COVID, and now it is pretty limited. I understand that they had the cut down on theirs, since now there is only a little room for you to stand unless you want to take it somewhere, which I recommend. With all of that said, I think Mallards is a fantastic choice to go for ice cream, that is why I recommend it to everyone reading this, and give it five stars. read more

Ok I really wanted to like this place and was excited to try it. All the amazing reviews! Employees were friendly and service was great. We ordered a scoop of espresso and a scoop of butterfinger and tbh it was hard to tell the difference. I wish there was more flavor. We'll probably give it another try because everything else was spot on (price, ambiance, friendliness) and we'll try some other flavors next time. read more

Long line @ Mallard IceCream, but moves quickly. Wife got the "Triple Indecision" so we wouldn't hold the line up too badly. I got a taste of each, very rich and smooth,...Whiskey Cherry Chocolate Chunk, Coconut Chocolate Chunk with Almonds, and Avocado. All flavors were well balanced and quite delightful! read more

This place has very good ice cream, with a lot of interesting flavors you won't find elsewhere--lavender, fig, rose. The serving sizes are good, and there is some seating available outside. Lines can be long, but move pretty fast. read more

A nice find for an ice cream addict like me. Tried the strawberry because that's my favorite and, as a second scoop on a waffle cone, their coconut with chocolate and almonds. Both were very good and I'd come back if/when I visit Bellingham again in this NW center of hippy-dom. LOL Be forewarned that credit/debit cards are not accepted but they do have an ATM machine inside. read more

I have returned and look more forward to the next time I return. Felt like I missed out. They require masks, but provide some outside if you need one! They don't provide samples anymore. It's 1pm on a Saturday and they were out of the dairy free Chocolate Coconut ice cream - I missed out big time there. That sounds like it would've been amazing. Ended up getting a scoop of dairy free coconut with a small scoop of chocolate. Unless I ordered wrong, I think they gave me larger portions than I ordered. Can't complain on that! :) Will try again next time, hoping they'll be more in stock with dairy free options then! read more

I just love this place, the people are all SO nice. I was terribly indecisive and got the triple indie this time...1/2 scoop of three kinds. Burned sugar...tasted like caramel and a bit like the top crust of crem brûlée. Melon...the most fabulous mix of honeydew abs cantaloupe flavors. Perfect and not overwhelming. And my absolute favorite standby...coconut chocolate chunk with almonds. I'm so glad I live more than an hour from here, saves me from going every day! read more

This location requires masks to enter (August 2022), since they do not provide masks (for individuals that do not bring them since there are no public mandates), we skipped this venue and just went to a convenience store to get ice cream. The Selkie Scoop on the waterfront is a good back up. This place looked cute and the cones looked tasty but mask requirement was not accommodating (we comply with mask mandates when publicly in effect). read more

Every town should have a quirky ice cream parlor centrally located that draws crowds all year long. Bellingham is lucky to have Mallard's which regularly changes their menu board offering unique flavors you probably won't find anywhere else. Basil, turmeric, cardamum? Yep, they've got it along with some standard favorites like mint chocolate chip and cookies-n-cream. Even the lactose intolerant will find some delightful sorbets. Cup or cone? Toppings or not? Mallard's has you covered. Not sure what you want or what "cheesecake" ice cream tastes like? Ask for a sample. The staff will bring you a real metal spoon with your requested flavors to try before you decide to buy. Keeping with Bellingham tradition and values, this establishment cares about our environment and does what it can to reduce waste and recycle everything else. Metered parking is all around, but free on weekends and after 5pm. The shop has both indoor and outdoor seating. They also invite world class chamber musicians to perform at the shop annually when the music festival is in town. Note, this is a cash only establishment, but they have an ATM on site. The staff will even reimburse you the ATM fee with your ice cream purchase. Say it with me, "you scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream"...at Mallard's of course! read more

If I was going to make a list of places that are "quintessential Bellingham" Mallard would be close to the top of that list. They are making an AMAZING product...it's not just ice cream, it's simply divine frosty dairy goodness in flavors that you aren't going to experience elsewhere. The setting is great, too, perfectly located along that Street O' Bellinghamminess: Railroad Ave with traditional-yet-trendy decor. It's just a great place to take the family, or your out-of-town guests, or just yourself on the way home from a crappy day of work, for a luscious creamy treat. Now if only they didn't take "cash only" - I'd probably go wayyy more often! read more

The customer service here has declined so much over the years. I've specifically noticed the way they treat people of color is very rude to say the least. I've tried emailing someone in charge to bring it to there attention. Three weeks have past but I have yet to receive a response. This shows the negligence for customer hospitality starts at the top. This place is not the experience it used to be. I hope management here will take some accountability and turn this around. read more

Ice cream is by far my favorite dessert. If I could only have one dessert for the rest of my life I would easily give up all other desserts for ice cream. So whenever I'm in a new town I always want to try the local ice cream shops. This place did not disappoint! They had a variety of unique flavors as well as traditional flavors. I ended up choosing a scoop of peppermint and a scoop of chocolate. It was so good. I also tried a bite of my cousin's scoop of the coconut chocolate chunk- that one was even better and I wish I had gotten it! You won't be disappointed if you come here, they are worth their prices! read more

This place has really good ice cream. I ordered the root beer and hazelnut ice cream. I was a bit skeptical about the root beer ice cream at first but it turned out quite good. The hazelnut icecream had a really strong hazelnut taste to it. Decor is nice. And I really liked the ducks on display. Definitely coming back. read more

It started pouring outside so me and my sister and my 2 month old baby strapped to me went inside to get warm thought we should support the business if we're in there got 2 ice creams. The manager told us to go outside to eat the ice cream in the wind and rain. Might I add, the mask mandate had been declared optional today. Mean people, expensive, overrated ice cream, generally bad service. Will not be returning ever I do not recommend supporting this business read more

The two young ladies eagerly greeted us and our pups as we came in and explained to us how it all worked. We picked from the available flavors and asked if we liked toppings added. They were very nice about accommodating and customizing for my friend who is vegan. I went with the "Trix" which was exactly how it sounded...and tasted! If you've ever had a bowl of trix and the milk starts to taste like the cereal as you're eating it, that's exactly how this tasted. It was great. Took me back to childhood. They were also kind enough to hook us up with some "pup cups" for our little guys which they definitely enjoyed. What I really like is how well the ice cream holds. It was pretty warm out and I was able to give my pup his pup cup and was able to eat my ice cream without it melting out. If I'm up here again, I'll be sure to stop in hopefully the Trix will remain a main offering.

I got the strawberry cheesecake ice cream rolls. They were terrific. Perfectly creamy, and the freshly ground in graham crackers added a nice texture. It was very rich but not overly sweet, and made for the perfect after-dinner treat.

Mallard is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the area. They only take cash but there is an ATM inside. The prices at Mallard are excellent. I'm used to paying more for great ice cream, but you don't have to here, and the sizes are good too. Parking is metered (free on Sunday), but there are bike racks outside. They always has a variety of interesting, unusual flavors. During my last visit, I had some of the more normal flavors, but was thoroughly impressed. Their espresso ice cream had a nice, strong flavor is one of the best that I've had. (I asked and was told that it's because they brew the espresso right into the cream.) I also had scoops of cinnamon Oreo and mint Oreo. Both were balanced so well, with the flavors being quite distinct, but never overwhelming, and the cookie chunks were large and numerous. My wife and I also noted that the texture of Mallard's ice cream is particularly good - smooth and creamy in a way that other shops have trouble matching. No homemade waffle cones here, something I look for at every shop, but the cones were really fresh and still worth getting. There is a ton of seating, including couches by a fireplace and a kids table, and board games if you feel like staying for a while. There are two huge bathrooms that are great for families, but they don't have baby changing tables (or at least one of them doesn't). They did have stools and short sinks for kids, though. read more

The first time I went to Mallards they were in a tiny little spot around the corner, easy to be missed. I am so glad they have a nice large place to eat now that is easier to find! I remember the first time I went to Mallards, I just wanted to get some ice cream and was expecting some cookie cutter ice cream parlor with the usual flavors. I was never happier to be wrong! I was almost overwhelmed by all the flavor choices, sure they had the usual vanilla and chocolate, but they also had flavors like rose and ginger. I tried the rose and was captivated, the flavor was wonderful! If I had it my way I would never eat any other ice cream! Mallards is all organic, local and handmade, and honestly I could care less! This is stuff that I would eat if it was the worst thing in the world for me, it's that good! They rotate flavors every so often, the flavor cards are charmingly artistic and they touch on local deals every so often. (I once saw a Black and Blueberry Roller Betties Flavor). My personal favorites are Cayenne chocolate, Ginger, and Rose. I would also recommend the Black Pepper Vanilla, that's right! They have an ice cream that mixes black pepper and vanilla, it is amazing. If you are a little weary of getting a whole cone just ask for a sample. I have done this many times with new flavors I wasn't sure of, I was excited to hear that they are happy to help! read more

The ice cream is good, and typically the service is good there as well, but I had a bad experience there. I was in line behind a older guy with his grand daughter. He looked like he kind of scraggy, but none the less was a paying customer. The kid behind the counter was scowling at him as if to say "I hate it when transients come in here". When I asked the other guy who checked me out was his problem was, he told me that they didn't have to be nice to customers there if they weren't nice to them. I told him that the customer was nothing but cordial and he said quote "Well, I don't care". I asked to speak to a manager and he said "You can talk to me". I'm not sure if he was the manager or not, but he obviously could care less about customer service. The ice cream is good there, but I won't be back ever. I don't want to be marginalized again. I went to the website to let the owner or manager know about the experience, but couldn't find a place to make a complaint. Look, when it comes down to it, the ice cream is good, but on the same hand when you work in customer service, it is part of your job to be polite to customers. That's the way I was taught anyways. Mallards and I have a love hate relationship. First, I love most their ice cream. I've had a couple flavors that I didn't love, but by and large they have amazing ice cream. My gripe had to do with the less than generous serving sizes as of late. It seems like the size of their scoops have continually declined. This last visit I swear the guy used one of those little melon ballers. If I didn't get two scoops I probably would have had to eat half the cone before I hit ice cream. I have no problem paying a premium for their product, but for the prices they charge they should at least give you full scoops of ice cream. A couple years ago I would have easily given them five stars, but with the escalating disappointment every time I go it's hard to give a stellar review. I'll update this review if things start to improve. Also, time to get a credit card reader. People take credit cards at garage sales now, you can easily take them at your establishment. read more

Hands down my favorite ice cream spot in Bellingham. This shop has creative and delicious flavors that you won't find anywhere else, and the staff are helpful and welcoming for any occasion you may be stopping in for. They have games and a good amount of seating and they're situated right on Railroad so there's plenty to see and do while you're wandering around with your cone. I spent many birthdays there as a kid, and now that I live in Tacoma it's a must-stop for me every time I'm back home! This is an amazing community staple that is well worth your time and money. You can tell they are disorganized though, and I was bummed that I couldn't use my debit card. Really? Their phone message still has winter hours!
