Have visited 3 times.. What a cozy space (velvet armchairs, & a little gas fireplace) to take a break from the constant terrible news we've been getting politically. Super customer service. The gelato is unique (fig & almond, yum). Undecided? You can get a flight of gelato in tiny waffle cones! The hot chocolate is stellar. Many different chocolate and drink options. The inside of the raspberry truffle was almost sorbet-like and was by far our favorite thing. The sipping chocolate was incredibly rich and I'd say the 4 oz size is all that's needed for one person. I was grateful they had mugs and for-here-ware so we could stick around the shop. The gelato was really refreshing and perfect size to get me through my drive home. The cashew bark came highly recommended my husband loves it, and said a little goes a long way. If you are a sugar slut like me, then Chocolate Necessities & Gelato is a MUST! We wandered in after lunch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and enjoyed some to die for gelato. The ambience is warm and inviting, with a contemporary look and feel. The service was also on point, friendly and quick to offer a sample. Perfect dessert for an evening stroll would be to pop into Chocolate Necessities & Gelato, which I and my partner did the other day. We were greeted by the energetic, cheerful and hard-working Jupiter who answered all our questions and obliged us with samples of the gelati we were interested in. I choose a couple of the mint choices which I liked, one being a delicious cherry mint. My partner chose an English Breakfast Tea, which was supposed to have tones of tea--and we couldn't taste that--but it was nice, nonetheless. But the star was the extra-dark vegan chocolate. This is a review of the chocolate shop, not the gelato. The chocolate is mostly truffles, with a few other choices (some bark and some cute "shaped" chocolates like animals, etc. that are creamy chocolates). The prices are very high and there seems to be a lot of hazelnut flavor in the chocolates. I found the quality of the truffles to be very good, but the bark was not worth the high price. I was hoping for a bit more variety and prices that are a more reasonable. Counter person seemed pretty disinterested. I was not offered any samples which, in looking at other reviews now, is usually offered. read more

To be honest, I'm not too crazy about the quality of their chocolate (or gelato), but I come here when I need a small local gift. Also, they are open 7 days a week and are open late too. So, it's convenient. They have quite a few different kinds of truffles, and many of them come in dark and milk chocolate. It IS expensive, but for about $11, you can get a box of 4 truffles of your choice, which I think is acceptable. I came here in the afternoon on Saturday, Jul17. The man was friendly, he was helpful, and he was humble by admitting he was fairly new to working there. He did a good job at meeting my needs though. All i wanted was gelato, couple truffles, and a cup of coffee. The gelato was very good, I thoroughly enjoyed it, the truffles were outstanding, and the coffee was good. Was downtown searching for goodies and found they were open YAY!!! Parking is not an issue there are options all around it. When you walk in it is a nice open set up and the chocolate counter is at the back of the store. A young man was very helpful answering my 1000 questions and giving me suggestions. I have been eating this chocolate since they had the first store years ago and it is just as good today as it was then only now there are so many different options! Outstanding chocolates and espresso drinks are very well made compared to actual coffe shops. Better than most coffee shops. My one criticism is the music in the cafe is loud and seems to be more for the staff than for customers. So loud it ruined the cafe experience part of it for me and I left. read more

If you want high quality chocolate to bake with, this is the place to get it! Excellent selection in many different forms and percentages. They have beer and wine, truffles and gelato. They also have coffees and tea and the most delicious affegato outside of the Co-Op in Mount Vernon (the best in the NW IMO). Cheese cake and a cheese plate are also available. IT's really nice to have such good chocolate shop in town! Oh, and last but definitely not least: they have the best restroom in Bellingham. Spacious, CLEAN, new, jazz music playing, well stocked. We came in on a busy night, and it still looked spotless. I know it might seem strange... but I equate a clean restrooms with a well run establishment that cares about cleanliness. I've lived in Bellingham for almost 5 years and have tried many little coffee shops waiting for one to become my go to spot to work on my computer or to meet up with friends. I'm happy to say I finally found it! The atmosphere here is cozy, with soothing background music and besides the occasional people coming in for gelato, it's never overly crowded like most coffee shops around here. My favorite thing is to order a 1/2 pot of tea or coffee (it serves at least 4 or 5 cups!), only $2.50. I save so much money that way that I can afford to come here often. I love how they carry it out to my table for me with a little tray with honey and cream, as though I was at a British tea house or something. Only recently have I started trying their chocolates and gelato and I couldn't believe how potent the flavors and how smooth the textures are. The staff is very knowledgeable and can even tell you what chocolate goes well with what teas! They were explaining to me about the expensive machinery that they have in order to make their gelato with the level of quality that they serve and I was very impressed! read more

Bathroom review: This is one of my favorite bathrooms in the world. It's all about ambience. The lighting, the color; the decorations. The smell is nice, the art is wonderful and pleasing, things are clean, and fully functional. It's single-occupancy, spacious, and just enough for the building it's in. It doesn't have seat covers or a baby-changing station, but I'm willing to let those things slide because of how clean it is, how overwhelmingly pleasing it is in there, and the type of restaurant it is (snacks and treats). Mmmm. I give this bathroom 5/5 stars, wholeheartedly. read more

Great chocolate products, their hot drinks are fantastic. I only wish there were a student "budget" drink like there is at many shops around town. Today my 8oz mocha cost $4.50... Fun once every few months but not something I can do every week, let alone every few days. Additionally, when I was there, their wifi has been very slow, with download and upload speeds less than 1Mbps. Although I was the only person using a computer in their shop, a my computer indicated that there were 12 additional users on the network, indicating many people in nearby shops/apartments leaching wifi. read more

What a great little place for the chocolate devotee. We had just finished seeing a show at the Mt. Baker theater, when we passed and saw this was still open. This is my go to Gelato stop. The flavors are vibrant and the product is appealing visually. If you don't see a flavor you like, sometimes they have something in the back, don't be shy and ask. The ambience is nice and welcoming, a great place to go after a dinner out with friends. Be sure to use their punch card and you will be rewarded with a free gelato if you fill in your punches.
