Probably the best place to eat within 20 miles. I was working in Clinton for two weeks and found this gem the second. Wish I would have come here first! Options are pretty slim in the area ranging from greasy spoon, scary Chinese Buffet or fast food. To find a place to get decent grilled seafood in a landlocked state is wonderful! I had the seafood Platter with grilled Mahi Mahi and Shrimp. The shrimp was a little overcooked but delicious. The mahi mahi was tender and juicy but could have used a bit more seasoning. Picked this place for dinner on a road trip to Midwest. Went in and was greeted and seated by a polite hostess. We sat for an eternity waiting for our waitress who never showed. People all around us were seated after us and were waited on attentively. A young hostess came back by a apologized and told us she had informed our waitress. While visiting family in Clinton, Mo., we decided to try Mallard's Roadhouse for lunch. I, and several others in our party had the tenderloin sandwich with french fries and it was the best tenderloin sandwich I've ever had. I've tried other tenderloin sandwiches in Missouri but this one was THE BEST!! I live in San Antonio, TX., and we have great sandwiches there, but nothing compares to this one. Believe me we will stop every time we visit or pass through. The service was fantastic and our whole experience was top-notch. My husband and I pass through Clinton on our way to, and home from, the Kansas City area when we visit relatives. We've tried lots of places along the way - always up for a new adventure. Today we discovered Mallard's Roadhouse. What a great find! The food was very good! We both had the sirloin steak with a salad. The food was fresh and homemade and very tasty. There were bacon pieces in the salad, green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. To die for! While we have to this point tried different places along the route, we've not been as thoroughly delighted with any place like we were at Mallard's. The roadhouse is smoke free and clean although the salt shaker needed to be damp cloth wiped; a lot of families were there. The noise level was average. We were greeted immediately and our waitress was attentive tho not hovering. Casual to Sunday service attire. Two TVs were on with low volumes. Theee best Pork Tenderloin diner.....My wife and I were staying over night near here and checked yelp for some nearby local resturants and we hit Mallards and were not at all disappointed. We both had the pork tenderloin diners with all the trimming. Our meals were served to us pipping hot and we left the plates clean. The service was great, our server took our order, brought our drinks and came by at our table to check on us several times. I live in Clinton. Been here three times. First time had a lunch of chicken fingers and fries. Would say it is equivalent with steak and shake. Second time I was part of a lunch group. Two of us had a hamburger. We both had upset systems for the rest of the day. Third time I was part of a dinner group. It was pretty loud for our group but had a great salad. Overall place is a little expensive for what you get but a nice atmosphere. I feel like it is more for people driving through than those of us who live here. read more

Nice appearance on a pretty much country highway. Inside is lovely cabin decor and there was quite a crowd. We were greeted right away...friendly waitress who knew her business and knew her way around a table. She presented us with a menu offering steaks, burgers, fried catfish. This isn't the place for healthy eating, but it's standard "roadhouse" fare. Prices in the $9-15 range except for a mammoth porterhouse for $25. So far it's a nice experience. Then we got the food. My friend ordered the fried chicken plate with legs (only option other than breast, and he likes dark meat). I ordered fried catfish and substituted green beans for slaw. His chicken was virtually without breading, no flavor, incredibly scrawny. Even the waitress was embarrassed! She took one back and 15 minutes later brought a leg with some meat on it. My catfish was average. Hush puppies mushy and undercooked, green beans surprisingly tasteless for a vegetable with so much bacon and fat in it. We won't stop here again except, maybe, to say hi to the accomplished and friendly food server. read more
