    Peanut butter milkshake
    Lesley M.

I initially stopped in just to get those delicious chocolate covered pretzels that my grandma used to bring back to San Diego when she visited here. Then we spied the ice cream shoppe in the back, and I'm weak when it comes to ice cream. We grabbed a booth and right away a sweet girl came over with menus and then followed it up with waters and a bowl of pretzels. There were so many offerings, but we both ended up getting milkshakes. I got a peanut butter one and it was very good. It was thick and creamy, perfectly blended. After stuffing ourselves with milkshakes and pretzels we wandered around the store to do a little shopping. This location is a little smaller than the other two I've been to and parking is limited, but I definitely like this area better. It's in a charming neighborhood with nice shops nearby and other places within walking distance. I would definitely return to this particular store again, the service was nice.

We ordered sundaes, the worlds largest, okay really big strawberry shortcake, and a few singles with hot fudge.

He ordered the cotton candy Italian ice, and I got the mango. Both were excellent--very flavorful and perfectly refreshing. The day we visited it was a chilly March afternoon, and since this location is more of a walk-up stand in the middle of a shopping strip, we decided to take our Italian ice to go and enjoy it in the car. Even so, it was a quick and pleasant stop, and the treats were exactly what we needed. It was in a weird location being in the center of a shopping strip, and I wish there was an inside with tables or booths where you can sit and eat, other than that, it was wonderful. Simple, tasty, and refreshing, we are looking forward to returning in the spring and summer months.

My friend decided to treat me to ice-cream so we came here since I happened to be at a library close by. This is a kiosk ordering system so you order outside. There isn't an in-shop seating area but they have 2 benches outside to sit on. MENU -- They sell Italian Ice, Gelati (layers of Italian Ice and Custard), Frozen Custard, Blenders (blended Italian Ice drink), frozen coffee, frozen lemonade, milkshakes, and just regular custard. There is an assortment of custard and Italian Ice flavours to choose from including the classic chocolate and vanilla. They also have alot of toppings such as Oreo, wafers, toffee, etc. I ordered a small custard for $3.99 (Twist flavour which is a mixture of vanilla and chocolate). I added the Almond Toffee Crunch topping which cost just over a $1 extra. I asked what their custard is made of and I was told that it is just a thicker ice-cream. I loved my simple ice-cream (custard) especially with the crunch of the almond toffee topping. Although I try to limit dairy from my diet, this custard is made with dairy. My friend ordered a large milkshake which was just over $6 but I forgot the flavour she got. She also added a topping that I think was M&M's candy. Overall, I loved my ice-cream (custard) and I'd love to return to try their Gelati's (layers of Italian Ice and custard). **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 72/150 total reviews in 2024 - 722 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 18 July 2024

Pro Tip: Visit to get a pic by their cool Lakewood mural inside the store…read more Walking into Burning River Coffee was a bit like stumbling into a local secret - a combo of smoke shop and coffee shop. The front is unassuming, and this combo isn't something you see every day, but somehow, it works... or at least, it's interesting enough to give it a shot. I visited the coffee shop side while working nearby (walking distance) at the co-working center (Icon Cowork). I ordered the red eye. Honestly? It delivered. It wired me for days. It was extremely strong and not well crafted (too much, definitely not barista made). But boy did it do its job. While at the coffee shop, I noticed a small menu of other drinks and no baked goods in the case. It just really had the basics. Service was very quick. The barista (who worked both sides of the house) was nice enough, but the vibe was more transactional than inviting. Not rude, just kind of indifferent. The space had enough tables to sit at and very quiet atmosphere. One thing I couldn't ignore was the scent of vape juice hanging in the air. It didn't bother me personally, but I can see how that could be a turn-off if you're expecting more of a traditional coffee shop aesthetic. Of note is that both sides of the business have the same entrance. They're working on dividing the space into two separate ones according to my quick chat with the employee. Currently the coffee shop has no age restrictions while the smoke shop is 21+. Overall? Burning River Coffee is quirky and good for a simple cup of coffee. It's not a textbook coffee shop experience -- it's its own thing. Just don't expect the usual indie-coffeehouse playlist and aesthetic. Expect something unexpected and different.

Another "don't judge a book by its cover" review. It is more of a coffee bar inside a vape shop,…read morethan it is an actual coffee shop. The location is great to walk to neighborhood shops and restaurants in Lakewood. The friendly staffer really worked her latte magic! She said she always adds a little bit of vanilla to punch up the flavors of the lattes. The coffees were so good. I also appreciated that they used lots of ice....perfectly cold and creamy. The baked goods looked nothing like the pictures on Yelp, but they did have several vegan and gf options. This morning they also had fresh cinnamon rolls.
