Pro Tip: Visit to get a pic by their cool Lakewood mural inside the store. Walking into Burning River Coffee was a bit like stumbling into a local secret - a combo of smoke shop and coffee shop. The front is unassuming, and this combo isn't something you see every day, but somehow, it works... or at least, it's interesting enough to give it a shot. I visited the coffee shop side while working nearby (walking distance) at the co-working center (Icon Cowork). I ordered the red eye. Honestly? It delivered. It wired me for days. It was extremely strong and not well crafted (too much, definitely not barista made). But boy did it do its job. While at the coffee shop, I noticed a small menu of other drinks and no baked goods in the case. It just really had the basics. Service was very quick. The barista (who worked both sides of the house) was nice enough, but the vibe was more transactional than inviting. Not rude, just kind of indifferent. The space had enough tables to sit at and very quiet atmosphere. One thing I couldn't ignore was the scent of vape juice hanging in the air. It didn't bother me personally, but I can see how that could be a turn-off if you're expecting more of a traditional coffee shop aesthetic. Of note is that both sides of the business have the same entrance. They're working on dividing the space into two separate ones according to my quick chat with the employee. Currently the coffee shop has no age restrictions while the smoke shop is 21+. Overall? Burning River Coffee is quirky and good for a simple cup of coffee. It's not a textbook coffee shop experience -- it's its own thing. Just don't expect the usual indie-coffeehouse playlist and aesthetic. Expect something unexpected and different. read more

Another "don't judge a book by its cover" review. It is more of a coffee bar inside a vape shop, than it is an actual coffee shop. The location is great to walk to neighborhood shops and restaurants in Lakewood. The friendly staffer really worked her latte magic! She said she always adds a little bit of vanilla to punch up the flavors of the lattes. The coffees were so good. I also appreciated that they used lots of ice....perfectly cold and creamy. I love coffee and I love supporting local. I feel like I kind of got bamboozled with this one. I looked at pictures and saw the reviews for this place so I was very excited. The pastry selection is nothing like it is on the yelp page. There were a few mini donut packages and a cinnamon roll. I chose the cinnamon roll, and the funfetti latte. The latte really didn't taste like cake. There were only a few sprinkles, and it kind of had a slight aftertaste, which is unfortunate, because the actual coffee they used seemed to be a decent brew. I have to be honest, I've been intimidated for way too long to walk into here since it's located within a vape shop but today I decided to get over that and take a step inside. Oh boy, am I upset I haven't walked into here sooner! Burning river is clean, it has an extensive menu, the staff is so friendly, and all around good vibes. I got an iced Honey Nut latte and it was phenomenal! They have an insane looking bakery selection and it took everything inside of me to not order a cinnamon roll... I will next time! You also have the ability to add CBD in your drinks if that's how you like it which is one of the things that sets BRC apart from the rest. The space is huge and inviting, if you need to pick up vape products along the way then this is definitely your go to place. The coffee and tea selection is a must, hand brewed with attention to detail. The quality of beans doesn't go unnoticed. I opted for a chai, extra hot and full of spice. It was one of the best I've had. Of course I couldn't resist the bakery case, cookies were chewy and fresh (no pic I ate it a little too fast), the blonde was full of chips and caramel, a nice touch especially when it was warmed up. A cool place for coffee and CBD. Burning River is the best coffee in Lakewood. It strangely is located in a vape shop. Cool of course. They have coffee and hemp based products. Go to the back of Cleveland Vape to find it. It shares the same building so you can also buy vape stuff. The counter is tucked away in the corner where there's some CBD snacks to sort through. Order coffee at the counter. They have a small menu because it's a small place. Has some non dairy milks. These include almond and soy. Coffee includes things like cappuccinos and lattes. It's about $3.50 for a medium. This doesn't include the added milk. Also they have Hemp Bars. It's about $3 each. These are made with lots of hemp protein. It's not enough to get you high. They are pretty healthy at least. I would come here again. Place to get coffee and vape products. This is a cool concept and they have a good staff. read more

Kind of a strange place. Half coffee bar, half smoke shop, it's not the kind of place I'd stay and enjoy my drink it. The seating is sparse, metal barstools and tables with lots of wide open space in between. The menu is vast, though hard to read. At least the staff has always been willing to tell me what's available, but it's a pain to have to keep asking, I'd rather be able to look over a menu myself and only have to ask questions a if I need clarification. They have sugar free coffee syrups, plant milk, and vegan pastries available. The coffee quality has been decent the two times I've visited. I can't speak to the quality of the smoke shop part of it as I don't smoke. However, that does take me out of the experience of a cafe a bit. I wish there was more of a demarcation between the two parts of the business, even if they do share the same storefront. Vegan doughnuts!!! Need I say more?! I happened to run across a shared post on Facebook that mentioned they had vegan doughnuts. I literally called right then and there to see if they still had some and drove up! And I wasn't disappointed. From the phone call to ordering in person, the gentleman (I believe he's the owner) that assisted me was so friendly and helpful. I tried the lemon crumble raspberry filled doughnut and Fruity Pebble doughnut. They were both delicious! The jelly filled one was definitely a winner in my book! I've known about Burning River Coffee for a while but never stopped in. I think it was some combination of pandemic + parking situation + its in a vape shop (and I don't vape). Because of the street parking, it can be hit-or-miss when it comes to finding a good spot. So obviously when I was driving by and saw a spot right out front, I snagged it! This was a while ago, and even early on in the pandemic, I was immediately pleased with how clean the location was and how they followed safety protocols. When you live with chronic pain you kind of already try to put CBD in everything. So coming across a menu where you can boost mostly anything with CBD is pretty nice! I was so surprised at how big and interesting their coffee menu is. I agree with Hope S. - should've came in here sooner. They have a small seating area that blends in with the vape shop but for me it's more of a grab-and-go place. The staff was extremely helpful and excited to talk about their most popular drinks, which made me excited to order! I ordered a plain coffee with CBD and it hit the spot. I'll be back. read more

This place was amazing! A hidden gem nestled inside a CBD store. Staff was so friendly and helpful and they have a wide variety of tasty coffee options. They even offer pup cups for your furry friends! Their most popular is the peanut butter mocha (tastes like a melted Reese's, apparently) but I opted for an oat milk cappuccino. They had a plethora of flavor options too...I got sugar free raspberry and it was soooo good. Reasonably priced too! They also have a selection of baked goods including vegan donuts. This is one of my favorite quick in and out places to grab a coffee. I never have to wait long in line like I do at some other local coffee shops. The staff is fast, efficient and very friendly. I also appreciate the constant changing specials/seasonal menu. They have so many different unique flavor combinations for their lattes. I've had their gingerbread latte, their salted caramel mocha and their Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte and all were excellent. I don't love the location being in the vape shop, but I don't know if they have any plans of getting their own free-standing building. I asked what was better. They both thought the cold peanut butter mocha was good. So I tried that in the nondairy form. Unfortunately I was not a fan of it due to the powdery taste to it.
