Us and the Nigerians probably invented shade centuries ago. That being said, I know this place is incredible because my parents raved about it!!!! They loved it! They called me immediately after they return home from their weekend trip, and had nothing but wonderful things to say about their stay. They said the location is beautiful and not very far from where they live in Howard County so they felt well rested when they returned home. They loved their room and were huge fans of the art gallery in the common area. Talking to the gallery curator might've been my mom's favorite part of their stay. She kept talking about how beautiful the art was and how she enjoyed talking to the curator, and my mom is not even a big art person so I was surprised to hear this. My dad who loves to eat, said the breakfast was fantastic and enjoyed the multiple courses. They also enjoyed that they had the opportunity to introduce themselves and meet the other guests during breakfast, their favorite guest was a woman named Ms. Gwen who was celebrating her 86th birthday. Apparently, she was the life of the party! They also enjoyed walking around the property and the neighborhood. They didn't go to the spa (because my brothers and I didn't pay for that part). However, they said they want to go for another weekend visit next year and they'll consider checking out the spa. They also said that Ms. Sheila was wonderful and they had a fantastic time and they're looking forward to going back next year. They didn't take any pictures for me to share, but I can say if my Ghanaian parents loved this place, you'll love it too! And I have to give a shoutout to Nicaila Matthews Okome for introducing me to this place when she featured the owner, Lisa, on her podcast, Side Hustle Pro!

Were given great instructions via email on how to get in and out of the house at our leisure. It was clean, quiet, and amazing. It's like old world charm and modern day had a baby. Great mixture of both decor not only at the house hit the surrounding area. GPS will take you to the front of the house at 506 Cameron Street. To access the house and parking, take a right on Pitt Street and then an immediate right on Washington Way. The back of the house has five parking spaces, feel free to park in any of the spaces in our lot. If you plan on parking, please send us your car model and license plate information.   The parking lot covers the 5 spots to the right; directly behind the house. Parking behind the house is on a first-come, first serve basis, and only one car is permitted per room. Jeff drives a large Ford Tremor and was able to get in just fine. If you need additional parking, there is a lot across the street at 517 Cameron Street or there is also street parking.   You are directed to enter through the black gate and then through the purple side door. Accessibility from Cameron Street is from the iron gate and alley in the front. All of our doors have electronic keypads. you are asked to always enter the code to lock the door when you exit the premise, and deadbolt the door behind you after entering.  When you enter the house, to the left of the purple side door is the kitchen that was once owned by George Washington. This kitchen was built in the 1700's, and the rest of the house was built around the kitchen in 1815. They encourage you to take a step back in time and check it out!  To the right of the purple door is the common space. The William Harrison Suite is up the stairs on the 3rd Floor, all rooms are labeled. All fireplaces are non-functioning and are prohibited for use.  All smoking and open flames to include candles and incense are strictly prohibited.

The fireplace was the perfect touch and the bathroom and jacuzzi were so spacious. The inn itself was giving very much "home away from home"! The highlight of our trip!…read more A few things I must point out, the Yelp description for The Wayside Inn is now under new ownership. Susan & David are no longer the propitiators. I met the owner, an unassuming man in the kitchen and shook his hand when I left. Joe is the manager and greeted us when we arrived on Saturday. I told him we have dinner and concert plans and would be back late. He gave us a through tour on how to use the fancy coffee maker, how to use the jacuzzi tub (we didn't us it) as well as the robes. What struck me the most was the branding. The robes as well as the beautiful coffee mugs all had a wonderful logo. Once we took our belongings out and settled into the room, we decided to enjoy the outdoors. My wife grabbed a beautiful blanket and we went outside on the roof deck. We're just taking it all in, I had a bottle of Napa Valley wine I brought from home for us to enjoy, it was really picture perfect. The actual inn is over 200 years old, one of the historic homes in Maryland now made for my enjoyment. Did General Washington sleep here? Inquiring minds want to know! The staircase was truly a sight to see. Made from wood, they crafted these beautiful wooden turns to the upstairs. Creaky wood? Sure. It gives the inn a comfortable charm. Our bedroom had a magnificent sleigh bed and the sheets? Joe was explaining to my wife the thread count. I'm a guy, I was tuning it all out, haha! After a comfortable night sleep, I woke up early. I'm an early riser, I made myself a great cup of coffee and went downstairs to read my book. The sitting area with it's beautiful furnishings, it's a welcoming room. Everything is meticulously cared for, it was a pleasure to have this moment alone and take it all in. After an hour, I went upstairs and took a shower. We have 8:30am breakfast reservations, I want to get on the road to beat the traffic. We were served a French toast bake, absolutely divine. When staying at any B&B, the shower products as well as the food should be top notch. Staying at the local Marriott doesn't give you the same experience. After breakfast my wife made us Dove Hot Chocolates as we packed up. I highly recommend The Wayside Inn. From the quaint accommodations to the fab breakfast, I thank you making our stay special.

Great location, about 3 blocks from the northern escalator at Du Pont Circle. Plenty of room to spread out, it was just my wife and I but 6 could get cozy in here and 4 could be comfortable. TV, free wireless internet, excellent location and a pleasant hostess. The basement apartment is self sufficient, so we did not have the "bed and breakfast" experience of sharing, but that's OK for us.. We had our own full bath, our own exterior entrance, etc. Rates vary, but this was such a better deal than any hotel room, how can you go wrong?

Our host, Dana, was very friendly and, since our sight-seeing plans were kind of up-in-the-air, gave us lots of good advice on places to go and things to see. The room was really cute and clean. The bed was amazingly comfortable -- one of those adjustable tempurpedic mattresses. I'm not sure if every room has one or if it was just our room, but it sure made it hard to want to get out of bed. There is free wi-fi and continental breakfast downstairs in the morning. This place is a great alternative to the pricey hotels around DC -- it has a private, relaxing feel and yet is close enough to the Metro that it is also pretty convenient. We would definitely stay here again.

We were served at an upper level, and anyone who likes to drink a lot might be persuaded to eat at the lower level where the bathroom was. There is an "office" there that has terrible signs touting locally-made potato chips, T-shirts, and other gifts. I hope they're not relying on these as an income stream. Very nice server... with too many to wait on our floor. Service was a bit slow, but you have to accept this as par -- anywhere you go. No worries. I had the Eggs Benedict, a Boozy Hot Chocolate, and the highly-acclaimed "Donut." The eggs were very good, but the potatoes bites were soggy... might have been cooked a minute or two more. The Boozy Hot Chocolate seemed far more chocolate than anything else. Live, and learn. The "Donut" was good, but wasn't what I'd expected. It was more the consistency of French toast, very doughy, and served with whipped cream. The fact that I didn't care for it didn't mean that it's bad. The only thing I'd change in my experience was that I tried unsuccessfully to flag down our server to bring some coffee to me. We ran out of time before the check came (as 5 of the 6 had to go back to work -- yes, on a Sunday) Still, the menu looked interesting and I'd probably come back -- but probably at an off-peak time.

When Policy Replaces Hospitality…read more We were so excited to celebrate my wife's birthday weekend here and explore nearby monuments -- it was something we'd been looking forward to for months. Unfortunately, life threw us a curveball and we had to cancel. We called right away, hoping the hotel might show a little understanding, but instead, we were immediately charged $500. My wife was crying on the phone, even asking if we could at least pay part of it, but we were told no exceptions were possible. I understand policies exist, but sometimes empathy goes further than rules. It's disheartening when a place that should represent hospitality forgets the human side of it. And in fact we were hoping to reschedule our reservations until we saw the charge was already placed.
