The place is outside of the bustle of DC in a quiet neighborhood but is easy to get to from the city. Also parking is ample on the street (and free! You won't find that downtown). We booked 2 rooms with them and we stayed on the 3rd floor of the house. The rooms were beautifully decorated, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We loved the shower and the multi jets! You can tell Jorge and David put a lot of love and hard work into their place. It's so cool that the house has a Hawaiian/island feel (very appreciated after spending time in the city). We were all amazed at the breakfast Jorge whipped up! That morning there were biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, cold cuts and cheese as well as fresh juice, coffee and Jorge made eggs to order. You would have to pay big bucks for a breakfast like this somewhere else so this adds a huge value to the stay! We loved chatting with the other guests staying there (2 other couples) and Jorge and David! At the end they gave us leis and we all took a picture in front of the house. The first couple dozen times I came here, I was delighted and that's why they are getting 5-stars. Some great things about the Bolger Center: - The staff! Everyone is INCREDIBLY friendly and accomodating! - The food: it's good, and plentiful...I might even say *too* plentiful - The rooms: they used to be itty-bitty and cramped (and many still are) but they have done a ton of renovations to make things better - Fun theme nights: Wednesday is crab-leg night, Wednesday is also karaoke night at the Pony Express (the bar), Tuesday at the Pony is trivia night, etc. - The costs are very reasonable and competitive Some things that annoy me: - You can't get your own food at the buffet anymore. And sometimes the staff don't have the best English. Usually this is something I do not care about at all, but sometimes there is a language barrier when you're trying to communicate what you want on your salad. - If you are renting this facility to give a training...BEWARE: you will be aggressively nickel-and-dimed if you require any additional help/supplies that are not explicitly in your contract! What I really don't like: - You feel stuck here. Downtown DC is a long ways away and expensive to get here, so you start to feel trapped the more you come here. Thankfully yes! Family games, on the bookshelf, and a painting of a family member who has the head of a dog, or is it the family dog dressed up for his portrait? We are still arguing about this, especially as there is a Pokémon Go stop right next door and the kids spent a lot of time in there. That's really all I was looking for. We spent the majority of our time exploring Union Market area which is less than a 5 minute walk. The hotel is well decorated and has a beautiful boutique vibe. Staff was friendly, check in was easy, and they have an amazing restaurant on the rooftop that has AMAZING tacos. The only downside to the stay is having to park in the garage for $60 a night. There is street parking available, but that's not always guaranteed. Overall a great experience and would certainly stay again when out in that area.

My gorgeous bride of 28yrs and I stayed here for 3.5 days this week during our visit to our son, who is an ordained minister at George Washington University. Critics may arch their snotty noses and decry that the rooms are a little on the smallish side...but how much square footage do you need for a restful night's sleep? Naysayers might lament 'But where is the en-suite microwave?!' when, in fact, the front desk avails you 24/7 use of the microwave in Bolgiano's Pantry, located just adjacent to the lobby. For value-for-2025-dollar, the Hotel Nell packs a heckuva punch! Throw in the exquisite, oft-inventive design touches evident in every thoughtfully designed inch of each room, hallway and common space...and it's a beautiful way to unwind and relax amid busy days and evenings in our country's capital. Pro Tips: -Bolgiano's Pantry, downstairs, offers delicious chef-inspired breakfasts from 7-10am daily. -The Pantry is also the site of midweek cooking classes. What a better way to spend date night...or to intuit if that girl you're smitten with is more Julia Child or Julia Mild?! -Venture upstairs to the Treehouse Rooftop for leafy, green Tulum inspired views, enjoy the free house margarita they'll gift all hotel guests...and stay for the Mexican cuisine, from 5-9pm every evening. -Craving world class Mexican. Walk two blocks NE of the hotel and find "Mezcalero at La Cosecha." -Rather a thick, rib-sticking Rib Eye? Try St. Anselm, in the same bustling Union Market neighborhood. -Dessert, anyone? Geek out at Van Leeuwen. Special kudos to the staff, incl Nelly, who so graciously granted this weary duo an early check-in when we arrived following a twelve-hour redeye itinerary from Los Angeles. We absolutely fell in love with this quaint brick manor nestled in the woods, only 20 minutes…read moreoutside of downtown DC, for our weekend getaway wedding. Owned by the Montgomery County Parks, the manor house is separated into various rooms, which we loved, but can prove to be a bit complicated when having to move people around in the house. This is a "do it yourself" type of venue, which can save you a ton of money because you can bring in whatever you want, but means that either you or a wedding coordinator need to organize outside vendors with the staff at Rockwood. There is no onsite wedding catering available, but several caterers available in the area. We recommend Stone Soup catering! Their food is delicious and they know the venue well! One huge bonus to Rockwood is that all of the tables, chairs, ceremony chairs, etc. are included in the price! That will save you a bunch because all you will need is linens. For a bit of a description, there are three rooms on the top level (we had a bar, appetizers, Photo Booth), a side brick floor veranda (where we had dancing), and a large banquet hall with a catering kitchen and large refrigerators for storage. We brought our own nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages, which saved us thousands of dollars. There are several gorgeous outdoor areas where you can hold a ceremony, including a stone patio in the back or a gazebo on the side of the manor. Above all, it is EXTREMELY affordable for the region. We paid less than $7000 in total for Thursday-Sunday with accommodations for up to 37 people in B&B style rooms, and 85 people in bunk bed cabins. If you wanted to charge a small fee for the accommodations, you would make back some money and save your guests money! The 13 B&B style rooms each have their own bathroom/shower. The three cabins are actually pretty nice if you can get over sleeping in a bunk. They are air-conditioned or heated depending on the season, and the bathroom facilities are clean and relatively modern. The whole package is an exceptional deal in this region. The only thing that can be a bit frustrating is that the staff at Rockwood are not always reachable by phone and do not communicate information among themselves very well. The staff is extremely friendly, but there were several occasions where I would email or call someone to confirm something and the next time I called or emailed, another colleague would have no record of what I had confirmed and I'd have to start over. On a few occasions, I would have to do this 3 or 4 times. If Rockwood had a dedicated wedding coordinator it would be so much more efficient. That said, we wouldn't have changed the venue for anything. We really loved the charming rustic, vintage feel of the manor.
