A very authentic Chinese hot pot place with plenty of parking and no wait times. The area isn't that sketchy. It's just a random older strip mall. You order all your food through their QR code except for the skewers that are in a self-serve fridge near the self-serve dipping sauces. The servers mostly clear plates and bring whatever food you order on the QR code. If you're ordering AYCE, be careful to order only the meat that's included because you'll be charged for anything outside the AYCE menu. The skewers are all included in AYCE. They have a 1.5 hour dining limit and when you're ready to pay, you checkout on the QR code and they'll help you pay. The spicy broth is a solid medium and gets hotter the more you eat, so order at your own risk. Servers come by for broth refills too. Overall, pretty fun way to eat hotpot and the portions are small so you don't over-eat because they charge extra for any waste. read more

I visited on Monday and had such a great time, I invited more of my friends to come 2 days later. One of my girlfriends LOVES haidilao so I wanted her to experience MLBB and compare them. MLBB is way more cost efficient and we still had a great time. MLBB is AYCE now with a set menu but there are still items you can order a la carte for extra $$. You also get a free drink with your AYCE order!! I'm not too sure how long the promotion will be for though. My friends raved about the orange soda. Oliver was our server both times and he was super informative, attentive and friendly. My favorite items were the beef enoki skewers and the AYCE beef slices. I couldn't stop eating the prawn chips and the little bun with condensed milk. These were way fresher than HDL. The chips were crispy and the bun was crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside. The ice jelly was a little plain because it didn't have a topping bar like HDL but I mentioned it to our server and he said he also recommended it to the owner so maybe there will be a topping bar in the future? Malubianbian Hotpot is such a fun place for hot pot featuring skewers! This place reminds me of Haidilao, but with emphasis on skewer hot pot. The difference with skewer hot pot is that the food to be cooked is out on a skewer versus just throwing things into the pot and fishing it out with a ladle. I think it's more fun to do it skewer style. They do offer items that are not on skewers. I love that they have duck blood here and for $8.99, you get a good amount! I would say that the food quality here is good and prices are reasonable. What really drives up the prices is the broth and some of the sliced meat options. Also, they charge $2.99 per person for the sauce bar. Honestly, the broth was so flavorful that I didn't use much sauce. However, I really enjoyed the pickled chicken feet from the sauce bar and for that, I would pay that $2.99 just to get unlimited access to it. We got two broths: Traditional Ox Spicy Butter and Mushroom Soup ($13.99). We loved it and would order those two again. I highly recommend ordering the Special Cilantro Pork Balls ($9.99) and Fresh Fish Balls ($2.39/ 5 pieces). This place was so fun to try! This was my first time having something like this so it was a nice experience overall. We were seated immediately since it wasn't too busy, and I loved the restaurant decor since it fits the theme. On the side of your table, I really liked how they already have a drawer for napkins, utensils, hand wipes, etc. it's very convenient! You scan the QR code to start your order and they will send it to you after you checkout. This idea has always been convenient and I have been seeing more Chinese restaurants having a similar order system. They actually have a very extensive menu, it's kind of crazy, but it makes you want to try so many things LOL. We ended up getting an order of the prime rib beef, their special spicy beef, beef tripe, wagyu skewers, quail eggs, chicken gizzard, lamb kebab, and this fried pork. We had the regular spicy chili oil as our broth, which luckily I didn't think it was too spicy at all. After trying everything, I would have to say my favorites were the lamb kebab and the wagyu skewers. The lamb kebab was very flavorful because of the seasoning and was very soft. The wagyu skewers cooked very fast in the pot, so make sure to check on it so you can cook it right to your liking. My bf enjoyed the beef tripe a lot as well. I was quite disappointed with the hotpot here. The restaurant is in a sketchy plaza, and the inside doesn't have the nicest ambience. We came on a Wednesday night around 6pm, and there were no other customers. Thus, service was quick. Menu was pulled up on the QR code. Since there was a lot of Chinese characters on the menu, this place seemed legit, but quality was not anywhere close to other hot pot places (and we have been to a lot!). We got the classic and mushroom soup base. The mushroom soup base was pretty tasty with plenty of mushrooms. The classic was too spicy for me. The items we ordered included the No.1 fresh cut house special, original wagyu beef, chive beef rolls, spicy beef slice, quail eggs, vegetable combo, and the lamb roll. My biggest complaint was that all of the meats were tough and chewy, so they were barely edible. The pieces were also so large, so you just have to swallow a whole wad of hardened meat. The chive beef rolls were unique, and were more chewable than the other meats. I obviously enjoyed the quail eggs and veggies. The sauce station was pretty standard, with some snacks (although not as extensive as other hot pot places). Price is $2.99 for the sauce bar. I finished the meal with a sesame ball and a slice of orange. The sesame was squishy and tender, so it was surprisingly good. Price was around $90 for two people after tax and tip. I've been watching a lot of Chinese variety shows and one of them highlighted this style of hot pot from the Chengdu region where all the ingredients were placed on skewers. Malubianbian (or MLBB hot pot pot front), was on my to try list for so long and I finally got to try it with my dad, my sister, and her partner. Immediately when you walk in, the vibrant interior and the aromatic smell of the bubbling broths coax you to take a seat. It was our first time having the Chengdu style and with the restaurant being AYCE, you can definitely ease your way into what they have to offer. Among the standouts were the garlic pepper beef, the fish balls stuffed with roe, the freshest vegetables and one of the most comprehensive sauce bars to DIY your own special dipping concoction. We ended up getting the bone broth and the Sichuan spicy beef broth and both were well executed in flavor and not too salty compared to other places. Also everything was rotated fresh so you can get the best bites possible (you can grab stuff from their fridge or order on their menu for their sliced meats). The servers at Malubianbian were extremely welcoming and even made my discerning Viet dad crack a smile while we ate. Craving hot pot and itching to try out this concept, I stopped by with a few friends. Once you walk in, you'll immediately see a self-serve sauce station and a bunch of seating. There's cool art on the walls everywhere and the décor is very colorful. After being seated, we were instructed to use our phones to scan the QR code to view the menu and order from there as well. The menu is quite extensive but we did our best ordering what we thought would be good. Skewers, almost everything is on skewers, with the exception of vegetables and other stuff. We went big and ordered plenty of them to try. We chose the mushroom soup and spicy soup. We also order the Brown Sugar Sticky Rice Cake. Of the skewers, I liked a lot of the meat items that we ordered and I liked the quail eggs. It was good, but I wasn't impressed much. The soup helped add some flavor to the food as well. I had been very anxious and excited to try MLBB. I love Hot-Pot and had tried going several times but couldn't get anyone to go with me. Finally, using my birthday as a reason, I convinced family and friends to go, so there were 6 of us total. We went on a Wednesday, so mid-week, and the place was not crowded. The atmosphere was nice, the place was clean, and the interior design of manga/superhero artwork was kind of cool. We had a litany of problems once we had gotten in and was going to be seated. We were 6 as I mentioned before, and we expressed to the host that it was a birthday celebration. Even though the place was pretty open, they sat us near the back, away from the area that holds the food and the sauces. We all thought that it must be because they will need to put two tables together. The tables are about the size of a foldable card table and would be "cozy" for a group of 4. NOPE! They stuck all 6 of us at a single table with a single burner for the group. We also expressed that one of our group is vegetarian, so we hoped that with two tables, that we could get one split pot with meat-based broth and the other we could have as vegetarian options. NOPE! The guy said that we would all have to fit at the single table, single burner. So, we did and it was miserable. We had to be extra careful pulling skewers out of the meat broth side of the single split pot to make sure that we didn't contaminate the vegetarian side. Difficult at best. We were all grown ass adults, and it would have been hard to get 6 kids to fit. They have a scannable QR code for the menu, as many places do now. I usually have no problem with that. I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra phone that has all of the latest updates on it. I could not for the life of me get the menu to open. One other person with us couldn't either, although the other 4 at the table could open it with no problem. I asked for a back-up hard copy menu, since even the host couldn't get the e-menu to work on my phone, and were told that they didn't have any. So, he just offered to pick some stuff for us. Nice, but I want to see a damn menu. I'm sure that we can't be the only ones that have had this menu issue, read some of the other reviews. Also, what if you get someone who doesn't have a phone, is older or not tech savvy? We, as a group, do not fit the demographic of the country of origin for this type of cooking. But 3 of us had been to a Hot-Pot before but 3 had not. When asked, we all said that we had not, just to make it comfortable for those that had not tried this before. The tutorial that the host/waiter gave was minimal. No real explanations of how the sauce bar worked, favorite combinations, types of meat skewers in the cooling units, recommendations etc... We felt like they (staff) had the attitude of everyone who comes in has done this dozens of times before and doesn't need any help. Once we all made our first round at the cooling units to pick skewers and sauces and then sat down, our area was so small that if I wanted to get back up (I sat at the back against the wall) the people on the sides had to get up to let me out to go look. Same with everyone else crammed, I mean seated, at the back area of the table. Food from the display units was ok, not great, and I couldn't really explore much else because the menu didn't work. It also would have been nice to try 4 broths instead of 2, especially with 6 people. Outside of a "Happy Birthday" from the host when we first arrived and told him, there was nothing special done by the restaurant. I'm not looking for something for nothing, but even a cookie, or a song, or a happy birthday from the other staff that came by would have been nice. They didn't even say thank you, or thank you for coming to celebrate here, or anything as we were walking out at the end. This was over $325 for the 6 of us. Very sad that we were treated so poorly considering how many places are struggling for customers. +PLUS+ They automatically added the gratuity because we were 6 people and didn't say anything about it when they dropped off the check. Usually, especially at an occasion/event kind of night out, we normally try not to look too closely at the check. Luckily, we caught it. When asked, we were told it is stated on the menu...WHICH WAS NOT WORKING FOR TWO OF US AT THE TABLE INCLUDING THE PERSON WHO WAS PAYING! I was so disappointed as I had such high hopes for a great new Hot-Pot near me. I'm not sure if I will be back as it was such a bad experience. YMMV. read more

So I've had this popular hot pot bookmarked for a very long time, they're usually known for their skewers, but today we decided to try a bunch of different things. The dining area is so special and makes you feel like you're dining streetside in China. The variety is absolutely insane here, you can get combos of these homemade meatballs with beef, cilantro pork, and cuttlefish, and even Australian A9 wagyu beef. This was marbled so beautifully and just melted in your mouth. We got a bunch of other things, and of course some skewers, these were fresh taro! And this plum juice that came in a Moutai bottle (iykyk). There's also a sauce slash appetizer slash dessert bar that you can keep revisiting over and over. When we were in SoCal for a quick trip, I had really wanted some hot pot. After doing some searching, I found Ma Lu Bian Bian and the one in Tustin is actually their newer location. We had a party of three, arrived around 5PM, and was seated promptly. They have a QR code at each table and it'll lead you to a site where you can order everything. I really like that! You can add to your order if you want and they'll bring it out to you! We decided to get the half spicy broth and half mushroom broth for our hot pot and we got a good amount of things to try: Beef slices Wagyu beef slices Lamb slices Napa cabbage Wide potato noodles Udon Frozen tofu Skewers: fish ball, oyster mushroom, wagyu beef, and beef with cilantro. Everything was pretty good except for the beef with cilantro. The beef they used to wrap the cilantro in had no flavor. I think they used baking soda with water to plump it? The lamb was really good! Definitely get this. I think the only thing was that the soups weren't flavorful enough for us. I wish they were stronger. The spicy just tasted like spicy water. The mushroom broth was actually very good, just a bit too watered down. There is a sauce bar and you can get whatever sauces you want. They also have freshly deep fried shrimp chips and watermelon slices too for you to grab. Portion sizes of the meat plates were very generous for the price that they charge. We were all really full and couldn't even finish everything. Prices, in general, are all very reasonable. You can't pay on online though.
