We came here for dinner on father's day around 6:30 pm with one party in front of us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a huge restaurant with tons of bar seating on one side and sit in tables on the other side. They also had plenty of outdoor seating that was covered, with fans and tvs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Complimentary chips and salsa, though the salsa was a bit spicy. I ordered their taco salad with ground beef 12.99 and my husband ordered their tacos al carbon 15.99 and a margarita on the rocks $9. The margarita came out very bubbly and way too sweet. Didn't seem like there were any alcohol in there, but it did creep up on you later. Happy hour was monday to fridays from 3-7 pm. Our total came out to be $41 without tip. Overall, nothing special about this place. Our server was slow, given it was father's day, but she rarely checked up on us. We had to flag her down for the check in the end. I really wanted to like this place, but our 4:00 PM meal at Texican Cafe was a total letdown. - The Food: - Speed: Our order came out suspiciously fast, which honestly explained a lot. - Cheese Flameado: We ordered this as an appetizer, and it was essentially a pool of grease. You can see exactly how unbelievably oily it was in image.png. - Combo Fajitas: We went with the chicken and beef fajitas, and the beef was a genuinely terrible cut. - Guacamole: This was the biggest heartbreak. We are huge fans of fresh guac, but what we got was borderline spoiled and not fresh at all. You can take a look at image_2.png to see the sad state of it. Serving old guacamole at a Mexican restaurant is just bad vibes. - The Service: Our waiter completely ghosted us. He visited our table exactly twice: once to take the order and once to drop the plates. We sat there waiting to give some constructive feedback on the tragic guacamole, but he never returned. We received zero water refills and no extra chips. Meanwhile, the table right next to us won the server lottery. Their younger waiter was incredibly attentive, bringing them unprompted soda refills twice and keeping their chips fully stocked. We literally had to flag down their awesome waiter just to ask for our check so we could finally leave. - The Verdict: This was our first time here and it will absolutely be our last. This was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences we've had. We called to place a to-go order and the employee who answered asked us to hold. She set the phone down and never came back. We stayed on hold for over 15 minutes while we could clearly hear dishes in the background. No one ever returned to the phone. After waiting that long, we walked into the restaurant while still on hold. As expected, the place wasn't busy at all. The same employee who left us on hold then took our order. What made the situation worse was the response from management. A man who said he was one of the managers approached us and we calmly explained what had happened. Instead of apologizing or being concerned, he immediately became defensive and confrontational. It was surprising to see a manager respond that way rather than take responsibility for the situation. Leaving customers on hold for 15+ minutes and then responding with disrespect when it's brought to your attention is unacceptable. Very disappointing experience. read more

We came with a large party 45 minutes before closing on July 5. Yes, we realize it was less than an hour before closing, but we were seating by someone who later claimed to be the manager with a dirty look and attitude. If we had been told right then that the kitchen could not accommodate our large party prior to closing, we would have gladly left. However, we were seating and received our food well past closing time. Five minutes after receiving our food, the "manager" promptly turned off the soccer game we had been watching to non-verbally let us know we needed to leave. If it had been communicated to us ahead of time that she wouldn't tolerate eating time, we wouldn't have stayed in the first place. When asked to resume the game, we were met with very unprofessional and ugly behavior by a woman who claimed to be a manager but refused to give her name. The only saving grace was our waiter, who was very polite and professional. He apologized profusely for the manager's behavior. We decided to try this place again, we had a much better time, our server was fast, friendly, and checked in with us. They were not gone for long periods of time, nor did they follow up every 2 minuties. However, the name implies that it is Mexican with some type of Texan twist. OMG Texican Café is an enigma. Normally, when I go to a Mexican restaurant there usually a few tried and true interior themes: Traditional - Colorful Saltillo tiles, Papel picado, mariachi, cultural murals. Fiesta/Cantina - Bold colors, tequila & margarita focus. Rustic Hacienda - Warm earth tones, wood, wrought iron. Modern - Sleek, minimalist, artistic, trendy vibe. Street-Style Taqueria - Casual, graffiti/chalkboard menus. Cultural - Day of the Dead, regional Mexican crafts. Texican was none of these. I felt like I had walked into a sci-fi movie with colorful abstract fixtures, bold in your face colors, 3-D dimensions of wall art...it was an artistic haven. With this somewhat jolting and simultaneously welcoming interior, I absolutely did not know what to expect. While I was at business lunch, my sensory glands were on alert and working overtime. We ordered enchiladas, and hard-shell taco plates (chicken and beef), which came with refried beans (not my favorite in general...prefer charro beans) and Spanish rice. The food taste was traditional in nature and not greasy at all. The meal came with chips and salsa. Surprisingly, the chips were the standout with a Frito and tortilla chip combined texture...these fresh and crunchy chips were quite addicting. Our chip bowls emptied fast. The salsa also had a kick to it. I came to this space on my lunch break. The lady at the front a Hispanic lady gave attitude told me it would be 5 minutes I sit here and wait as I sit . I see that other people are walking up and getting sat. After I noticed I walked up and spoke to the manager to advise that hey I have been sitting here waiting to get a table as and other are being seated. I went to this restaurant for the first time today. It is near the Lakeline mall. We went for lunch. Upon entering the restaurant, it is extremely authentic, Mexican, including the music and bright colors. I could smell the fresh chips as I stood in the lobby. I was greeted promptly and brought to a booth. I was then greeted promptly by a server and served freshly made chips and salsa, which was quite tasty. The menu is extensive. They seem to have just about everything one could want. This restaurant is Mexican not Tex-Mex. It is really really good. I got crunchy tacos with rice and beans. My husband got beef fajitas. Both of us were extremely pleased with our meal. They have a special lunch menu from 1 to 4 during the week and a brunch menu on the weekend. Their prices are quite reasonable even without special menus. The price of my dish was $12.95. I will definitely be back the next time I visit the Lakeline Mall! I ordered their Tortilla soup which the wait staff carefully pours the broth over the soup ingredients in the bowl and bountiful beautifully garnished with bright green avocado slices and lots of shredded white chicken. Served with cheese and pico on the side. Perfectly seasoned and an awesome 4min ticket time for this appetizer. I ordered a house salad. Fresh. The only negative is too many carrots as carrots are old school and no cheese. Would like to see chunk cheese like goat. Next up I ordered both the stuffed chicken avocados and the sour cream enchiladas. Avocados were awesome and had plenty of leftover. The booths are a bit small, especially with all the food you will get but maybe the tables are larger. Speaking of food, there were generous portions and the food was not overly spicy. For those that can't do gluten, they have corn tortillas and lettuce as well. This was nice. There was a large supply of toppings as well. The flan was really good as well. I highly recommend it. That was all that was in it, despite what the menu said, it had nothing else inside. Covered with what appeared to be salsa verde, which was more like green vinegar, sour and revoltingly inedible. Rice was bland, also tasteless, like something from a a huge vat of generic plain orange rice. Beans was more like bean puree, almost a liquid, technically pinto beans but more like mashed bean flavored goo. The food was cheap, cheaply prepared and very cheap ingredients.
