Not sure if it is where the place is situated or what but I dont feel like I am in fort madison at all. I have worked in FTM for a couple decades so a little change of pace is nice. Some mexican music playing but not too loud. Again just really nice. Overall the tables were clean and bathrooms nice and clean to. Well done. I kind of cheaped out and got the taco with beans and rice. Before i ordered i got chips and salsa which i think is part of any meal, and if that is canned salsa I want to know where I can get some, otherwise I think this is made on site. Either way it was great. I thought maybe I should have gotten a bigger meal but the taco with the beans and rice plus chips was perfectly filling. Next time i might go for something bigger. Service start to finish was phenomenal. Quick to get a seat, get food, and get the check. There was a family of people at a decent size table and what I think are probably regulars who 'know' in several booths. And at 330pm? Nobody else is putting asses in seats at that time of day. I am glad that I 'know' now. I will be going back whenever I am in the area. I noticed the manager who was very nice was handling sizeable orders over the phone while taking care of everyone. There are two locations in town, and I went to the one on East Jackson Street. I was immediately seated in a booth. Water and chips arrived before I could open the menu. The chips were excellent, and the salsa was quite good, though surprisingly oregano-forward (I'm pretty sure that was the flavor). It's like they replaced the cilantro with oregano. Unusual, but tasty. I ordered the Alambres dinner, and this massive plate of food instantly appeared. I don't know what kind of magic they have going on in the kitchen, but I've never seen dinner arrive that fast. Delicious rice (perfectly cooked and seasoned), a nice pile of lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, etc. But the star of the plate: lots of shrimp, thin strips of steak and chicken, sauteed yellow/red bell peppers and onions, smothered in a cheese sauce. All very tasty, perfectly seasoned and cooked. The cheese sauce was a little thin for me, but that's a very minor issue with this impressive plate of food (it was so much food that I ended up finishing it later that night in my hotel room - still good). The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was fast and good, and the price was ridiculously low.

My hubby and I usually get the Steak Fajita's with rice, beans, guacamole and flour tortillas and they give you plenty of food. I usually have to add a little bit of salt to my fajitas, but otherwise, it's pretty decent. They also give you a side of chips and salsa for the table. Christina has been our server several times and she always does a great job! Friendly, gets our orders right, and handles the lunch rush like a champ! All in all, Santana's is consistent and reliable, especially for this neighborhood.
