We went around Christmas and it was decorated inside. The restaurant was packed. Every single table was full. Everyone was having the best time. Even the bar was totally full of people ordering drinks before they were seated. The food is classic, New York Italian. Everything is a very well done version. The veal Parm was one of the best I've ever had. The caramel cake at the end was truly beyond. I can't recommend this experience enough. We ate for three hours had amazing cocktails, great bottles of wine and a really delicious meal. Looking around, you could tell the diners were locals enjoying a beloved neighborhood restaurant. It's such a special restaurant that serves real New Yorkers.

The interior looks like a classic Italian restaurant and service is very formal. It was quite busy for a weekday night. There's valet parking so you don't have to stress about finding street parking nearby. We ordered fried calamari, baked clams, baked vodka penne, and the Fisherman's Platter. We were served bread and some antipasto to start. The calamari was a classic and I loved the sauce -- it had a good spicy kick to it. The baked clams were okay. The Fisherman's Platter is a must and good value with its generous portion of seafood. It can definitely be shared amongst two people. The baked vodka penne was also good but portion was on the smaller side. I would say Michael's is a must try at least once.

Upon arrival, the front door was locked, but if you ring the bell in the front, they'll buzz you right in. A woman came out from the back right away and helped me promptly. When you walk in, it's like you've been transported somewhere else. It's an adorable little shop with a freezer full of fresh ravioli in a variety of flavors, as well as fresh tortellini. They have a wide selection of other items as well, shelves and shelves full of imported dry pastas, as well as sauces, jarred vegetables, and more. It very much reminded me of Italy! I ended up buying the 12 pack of spinach ravioli for $7.99, and a container of tomato and basil sauce for $5.99. Perfect for two servings- and since I live on my own, I was able to get two meals out of it, which ultimately ended up being pretty cheap! When I finally got around to preparing my dinner, I taste tested the sauce as it was heating up in my saucepan. It's so simple with so few ingredients, but it was out of this world delicious. It worked perfectly with the hot and cheesy ravioli- the most perfect comfort food! Even though the store is pretty far from my apartment (I live in a different neighborhood) I will absolutely be coming back for more! I've missed being able to buy fresh made pasta, and this ravioli is particularly to die for. Looking forward to trying them with other fillings as well! Just thinking about that ravioli makes me want it again- so, run, don't walk to this spot!

I went, "No..." He persists with, "What about now?" And I finally said, "Tomorrow, cuz we don't have the meat." Just to be clear, we have bacon, but not THE meat. What meat you wonder? The one and only, guanciale*. I went to bed but one question nagged me, "Where the heck am I going to find that dang guanciale around here??" The next day, I was wandering about the Italian neighborhoods in hopes of finding the mystical meat. I was just about to give up on my search but who ends up calling out my name? Oh, Dairy Maid, you milky temptress, how dare you carry about yourself so deliciously?? The enticing exterior with its time-soaked sign and the intoxicating interior with its well-stocked shelves was a pure joy for my thirsty eyes but what knocked me head over heels is when I asked, "Do you have guanciale?" and you answered, "Yes." The rest, as they say, is history. * = No insult to bacon or pancetta but if you have ever tried guanciale, you will know why you want it so bad!

I haven't tried them all, obviously -- too many coffee shops -- but what I have tried, and come back to, over and over, is the products of the amazing team at Posto. It's not just about the skillfully made drinks or the balance of flavors, the fresh, Italian-style coffee or the filled-to-order Italian donuts and Maritozzos (iykyk) -- it's the overall ambience. You come here to put down the screen and enjoy the moment. So often do we rush through our coffees, or even bring them to meetings, at the beck and call of the city's hustle. But at Posto the kind, talented, customer-first team asks you to slow down and escape all of that, to savor every sip of coffee in the classic Italian style. Walking in feels more like a poem than a cafe. Gone are the transactional, disingenuous "how are you's" and instead you get to discover all sorts of fun barista (and bar) creations, Tuscan products, and fresh pasta. The servers and owner are always read to provide a recommendation, and like in Italian cafes, they bring whatever treats and drinks you land on to you. (My favorite aperol spritz is also from Posto.) Outside, the peaceful garden hosts two large umbrellas. It's vibrant, as if you're in a neighbor's backyard and they are willing to share a colorful moment with you, birds chirping overhead. As I finished the last drop of my cappuccino this morning, I realized that forty-five minutes had passed, and every sip of coffee was just as good as the last. Thank you!

I don't feel like Un Posto hits the nail on the head for any of these. The menu is incredibly confusing--one part is on a chalk board, another is written under the countertop, another two are printed out next to the register and they all say different things without explanations of what any of the drinks even are. I spent at least 10 minutes letting other folks in front of me at the counter because I was paralyzed by choices I didn't understand, luckily the baristas were able to provide clarity on some of them. They have cocktails, coffee cocktails, coffee drinks, and several food menus. We came hungry, only to see the sandwich menu taken away because they were out (this was at 3 pm, and they close at 7). This is such a New York thing, but if you're selling cocktails and groceries until the evening, running out of mortadella sandwiches is not the same as when Radio Bakery sells out by noon... Maybe it's me but I'm not particularly looking to get a plate of prosciutt and burrata with my coffee (which is what they had left), and the sandwiches here are supposed to be amazing and were the main reason why we chose this place. We had come here to co-work, but saw that there were no laptops allowed, not even in a specific window, just period. I take issue with this because for some of us, coffee shops are vital spaces not to get sucked into the void of our screens but to write, share ideas, and work in the company of our support system. The coffee I got was an Italian iced coffee with no milk and almond syrup, pretty good but a smallish portion. My friend's latte was white, and tasted like foamy milk with just a hint of espresso... very odd. Usually that cool pretentious European vibe results in delicious food and drink, so I expected to be blown away, but it was just okay. Some of the higher-up staff are quite snippy, doesn't seem like the kind of place where if you're a regular people know your name and want to chat. The accusatory sign in the bathroom really says it all. The best part of this place is the gorgeous back patio, but it's harder to enjoy it when you've walked into a place that already makes you feel like you don't belong there, implying you're a toilet-clogging laptop addict who doesn't know any coffee lingo. I could see stopping in to pick up some fresh pasta and grabbing a cappuccino to go, but what's the fun in that?

That alone signals someone in the kitchen knows what they're doing. I tried the Rigatoni Sunday Sauce -- rigatoni tossed in a bright, tomato-forward sauce with sliced sausage, eggplant, a meatball, and a cheesy breadstick -- and it mostly delivered. The sauce is lively and fresh-tasting, clearly "today's sauce" rather than something resurrected from yesterday's pot. Tomatoes sing, the acidity is balanced, and the simmered depth is there without feeling overworked. It could have used a whisper more salt for punch, but that's an easy fix at the table with Pecorino Romano; I added some at home and it snapped into perfect focus. The meatball was flavorful but a touch dry -- breadcrumbs are doing the structural work, and a milk-soaked stale bread technique would have kept it juicier without losing character. Sausage and eggplant were solid partners, and the cheesy breadstick was dangerously good (eat it slowly unless you want to be judged by your tablemates). If I could award half stars, this gets a 4.5. Smart execution, honest flavors, and a few small technical tweaks away from greatness. Highly recommend giving them a try -- especially if you, like me, believe that pasta should arrive ready to eat, not ready for a culinary trust exercise.
