I tried this place for the eggplant hero. Trying to discover the spots in the area for the best ones. This one was okay and pretty average. In my opinion it could've been way more cheese. It was just sauce and eggplant. However, it had a very good amount of eggplant and that was a plus. The bread was nice and toasty and soaked up the flavor of the eggplant and the sauce. Interestingly enough, the two establishments are right next to each other. This establishment is an Italian deli meets a butcher shop. However, you want to come here for a hero, that is the draw here, and the frozen pasta. I got my namesake hero, the Coney Island, and it is delicious. Thankfully he has a few tables outside to enjoy them. The hero is a bit heavy on the mustard, but it is beyond tasty. All the meats on it (sorry, I am too lazy this time to put them all in this review) work beautifully. The American cheese is a great binding agent like I thought it would be. The bread is perfect. The owner is fun and old fashioned and that is what makes this hero shop worth making a visit for when lunch is calling but you are not sure where to go. I grew up on 79th St. I still own the house and come down periodically to check on the tenants and work that needs to be done so I was down this morning. I have an apartment in the building went down to papa Pasquale to get a cup of coffee. Nobody I knew was there not the old guy that runs the cash register that always thanked me for my business cause he knows I live in Connecticut just two people that didn't speak English . I saw a lot of great reviews for the sandwiches here so I decided to give it a try. Came here after work, around 4, store was not busy at this time. Staff were very friendly. Ordered a chicken parm sandwich. The sandwich was pretty decent in size, which is a plus, however, the sandwich itself lacked flavor, I don't know if it was the sauce or the chicken, but it just didn't really taste much like anything. I really like this place, the guys behind the counter Dominick and John are good people. I drove over an hour to get here on a Sunday morning from Long Island and it was well worth it. The freshest ravioli and so many different types. Pesto, Cheese, Sausage and peppers, Pumpkin, Mushroom, just to name a few. They are also known for all their over stuffed sandwiches named after locations in Brooklyn. Great homemade fresh mozzarella, and their homemade marinara sauce is one of the best i've had any where. I was in the mood for an Italian sandwich and remembered my coworker telling me about this place so I decided to give it a try for lunch! After perusing their extensive sandwich menu, I was torn between getting either the Bensonhurst or the Tommy Casale but ultimately decided on the Bensonhurst as a way of paying homage to the wonderful neighborhood that I grew up in. The Bensonhurst comes with prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted peppers, and balsamic vinegar, all of my favorite Italian sandwich ingredients. The ingredients are all on the saltier side but the bread balances them out. It's $12 for a sandwich but it's huge and can definitely be split into two meals so it's not too bad. We went to the Rockville centre farmers market and purchased a few things from their stand. Sausage and pepper ravioli - I am not a ravioli fan at all but I really liked these a lot they had just the right about of filling and the flavor was great. Believe the 5 stars - It's true. Papa Pasquale is an authentic Italian food company that makes great stuff. My favs are the large twisted Italian bread that is super chewy inside, and crunchy seeds outside.. mm And of course they make a perfect lobster ravioli.. that actually tastes good.. Still yet to try spinach, mushroom, pumpkin? ( I don't recall /something like it maybe squash) ravioli and some other items. Saw some prepared food. On my way to pick up lioni's sandwiches, I stopped by because I read so much Yelp reviews that rave about their ravioli's. I got the fresh unfrozen cheese ones, fresh penne pasta and a pint of their homemade vodka sauce. They have tons of other flavor ravioli that are frozen like lobster, meat, veggies. After cooking all the ingredients at home I have to say give 5 stars for the cheese ravioli, they were so soft, flavorful and full of cheese. Maybe today was just a bad day, but the hero I got was really underwhelming. I've ordered the Bensonhurst Hero (prosciutto hero) several times before over the years and they were always stacked with like an inch of delicious prosciutto. But today's order had a mere two slices in it (see pics), which was very disappointing given my urge to satisfy a spontaneous prosciutto craving. The guys here are very nice and gracious, always class acts, and the food is great. Am just disappointed with the portions and hope this doesn't become a trend. Lioni's is right next door and they used to stack the prosciutto thick. Will try them next time to see how they are now. read more

My favorite chicken parm sub in the entire world is here. I can't go to Brooklyn without getting one. The other fresh stuff is superb as well. If you tell them that it is your first time there, the will walk you through the store making recommendations! My favorite is the asparagus and smoked mozeralla ravoli, creamy and super delicious. Right when I entered, I was greeted with a loud welcome. I had not been in an Italian place in Bensonhurst prior to this and it was an experience needless to say. It reminded me of my own Chinese culture - I would have gotten the same loud welcome upon entering a Chinese restaurant, one so loud it'd almost sound like they were yelling at me. I ordered the Meatball Parmagiana Hero and it was huge. Heros are $10 each, but well worth the price. I feel like I could split one hero into 3 meals they're so big. I have not had their ravioli but I'm sure it's great. The guy who served me (I'm assuming the owner) is extremely nice and hospitable. This is a good local business and I'm glad they exist! One thing I was concerned about was their microwaving of two mozzarella sticks in styrofoam. When someone was making my sandwich, he was not wearing gloves or a hairnet either.
