Mama Mel's Addie with Sausage and Bacon

Mama Mel's did not disappoint! What a great evening of Thin crust, Addie, beer and new friends. Super friendly owners hands on. Real Sausage - great Sauce - Mozzarella cheese was great - not a super fan of Provel but on the Addie - perfection!

This building has been around forever! We have ordered to-go but never ate in and for whatever reason I expected it to be a dark, dingy, hole in the wall. It was not! It was bright and clean with a cute little dine-in area and a great patio with picnic tables We were with some of our group that does the Pizza Passport and since there were 9 of us we decided to sit on the patio. It was a perfect night for it and we really enjoyed sitting out there on a beautiful night. The counter person was wearing several hats but was friendly and efficient. I ordered water, soda, and chicken wings as an appetizer and she got that going and said she would keep our tab open. One of our group had ordered a salad and it looked great, so I placed an order for one for myself and my husband. We decided on a think crust sausage and pepperoni, and a Detroit style sausage and pepperoni. Salads came out, one with a house creamy Italian and the other with regular Italian. The were very good, just a basic salad but the croutons and dressing made it great. Our pizza arrived and it was HOT. I checked on the wings and they brought those out shortly. I had expected to eat two pieces of the Detroit style but after the salad and a couple of the Buffalo wings (crispy and delicious) I could only eat one. I love the thick dough and crusty edges of the Detroit style, and this was a good rendition. I will skip the sausage next time and go for full pepperoni, It wasn't bad but I like a more Italian style, and it seemed just regular. My husband's thin crust was well done and I liked it more because of that. I The staff was hustling between take out and dine in, all were friendly and fast. We will go back

We had heard about the Detroit style pizza they serve here so it was definite go. We ordered the large delux, salads and chicken wings as I heard they were an experience to be had. Salads came first and the balsamic dressing on top was excellent. The Detroit style and wings came out together.....first the Detroit style. The best crispy crust ever and loaded with toppings . They ladle a load of sauce across the top which was something new that I had never seen. The wings were tasty but could have been served a bit crispier....i guess I should have asked. Nonetheless a great food experience, you can bet we will be back.

I loved the Detroit style pizza at Mama Mel's Pizzeria in the Lemay area of St. Louis. I ordered the DeLux small deep dish pizza and it came with some killer pepperonis, sausage, mushrooms and other veggies. Glad I went on a midweek night and only waited 40 minutes as opposed to weekends it can take over an hour I heard for the deep dish. The service can be as saucy as the pizza too since the night I went only one counterperson working to handle phones, taking orders, and pick up orders from customers. There's nothing much visually inside the restaurant that's engaging, but the patio outside looks great and would be nice on a fair weather night to dine. I saw nothing to recommend on the beer or wine list unless mass brews are your thing but it isn't mine so drank water, but I was there mainly for the pizza. I look forward to going back.

Today we decided to try their special pizza that they have for a limited time. It was pulled pork. You could have either pineapple, jalapeños, or banana peppers on it. We chose one half pineapple and the other half banana peppers. It was pretty tasty. For an appetizer, we ordered the hand breaded fried pickles. The best way to describe these are Perfectly Puffy Pockets of Pickles (say that five times real fast) These were different but very good. A thicker cut pickle in a sort of beer batter and they were very puffy. They were really good dipped in their house Italian dressing.

We were excited to try the Detroit style pizza. The wait on a weekend is minimum 1 hour, so just be prepared. The flavor of the pizza was different than expected and while it was burnt on the edges (I think it's supposed to be) it wasn't as crispy as expected. The dough in the middle was soft, so the kids liked that. Overall, it was good but I don't think we'll get it again. We'll probably get Jets next time. Price was a bit high too. $65 for 2 pizzas and a salad. Service was a little rude.

We have started trying different pizza places each time we do get pizza, and Mama Mel's is by far the best we have tried. We ordered fried pickles which were amazing, the batter was chefs kiss. The pizza was Detroit style and was truly just that. Definitely have to come back again!

Top 3 pizza places I've ever had in Saint Louis! The Detroit style is absolutely delicious, I would recommend everyone branch out from regular STL style and give it a shot! Their fried pickles are hands down the best I've ever had, they recommend to try them with the house dressing as a dip and I agree with them wholeheartedly!

We sat in the patio and water and fresh hot 2 kinds of bread were placed on the table. Our server, Connor, is so knowledgeable and pleasant. He was patient with us and his wine suggestion was spot on. Great sense of humor and he worked all the patio tables. The food choices were amazing and exceeded expectations. Pricing was comparable with what we expected. The lobster bisque was thick, hot and very filling. There was ample pieces of lobster as well. My wife shared that her pasta was not hard or dry or rubbery but tasted freshly made. Connor shared that the prep starts every morning with homemade pasta. The traditional toasted ravioli were just that, toasted and tasty and the CG shrimp seemed so much more than an appetizer. Meals could be had with just those. I was very satisfied it ordered lasagna anyway. I just had them pack it to go as I was comfortably full. I know there are a lot of choices on the Hill but I assure you this one stands out. My son ordered a Bloody Mary and I had a Pinot Noir while we looked at menu. Bloody Mary was very good and the wine was pleasant. We started with Garlic Bread with Cheese. It was the only menu item I would not order again. Flavors did not come together. I ate my fair share so it was good. Just not great. We then shared a cheese pizza with provel. Elite crust and sauce! The crust had an amazing char and the sauce was deliciously nuanced. The cheese was very good, but most definitely not the star of the pie. Pasta Pomodoro was wonderful. We ordered the caramelized cauliflower appetizer which was drowning in cream sauce and so smothered in cheese that it no longer looked like a vegetable. It was too rich for us. They were considerate to give us plates to split the scampi style shrimp, which was well cooked. However, the grilled beef tenderloin and potatoes were very lackluster. We'd asked for medium rare and the kitchen must have been rushing as it was still raw in the middle. We tried to get the server's attention, but they were very busy and we gave up. A particularly strange and rude interaction from our server when collecting the check left a bad taste in our mouths. I was glad to see their popularity but disappointed at how it decreased the quality of our experience. Unfortunately, we had an unpleasant time overall. We started with the toasted ravioli, and it may have been the best I've ever had. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Our party of four was thrilled with every entrée. I ordered a veal dish with a side of pasta, and it was absolutely outstanding. Everyone else ordered pasta dishes, and there was plenty of "oohing" and "ahhing" at the table with every bite. The portions are huge, so we're all looking forward to enjoying the leftovers. Service was friendly from start to finish. Our server was warm and attentive, although things moved a little slower than expected, and it took a while for our entrées to arrive. That said, once the food hit the table, it was clear the wait was worth it. The restaurant has a wonderful history and old-school charm, though the dining room could probably use a little refreshing. We also stopped at the bar before dinner, and unfortunately that was the biggest letdown of the evening. The presentation and flavor of our cocktails were surprisingly disappointing--they looked and tasted more like drinks from a budget hotel bar than from one of The Hill's iconic restaurants. Thankfully, the incredible meal more than made up for the cocktails. With so many outstanding Italian restaurants on The Hill, we've been fortunate to try many of them, and Cunetto House of Pasta has firmly earned a spot in our personal Top 3.
