It was slow when we came in on a Friday evening. Weather was nice. The soup was great. A bit pricy for what we had but it was a good dinner. Nice spot for a family to dine together. I had no idea this place existed - definitely needs more advertisement. This is a very mom and pop feel kinda place, cute decorating and just a home feel. The food is nicely proportioned and tastes like it's made with love. I had the hot honey chicken sandwich. It really was quite messy and big, but it was good. Mama's is one of the best dining options along I-94, approximately 12 minutes from downtown Chelsea. I had lunch here then ended up stopping by Mama's for a second time several weeks later. There is both indoor and outdoor seating with live music outside every Saturday night. Service varied depending on the waitstaff and time of day. My server was friendly and attentive the first time around when I dined there in the late afternoon. The second time I came at dinner time and a different server was not very attentive. We had a long wait for our food because she forgot to ask the kitchen what happened to our order. The food is excellent but a bit pricier than I would like. My favorites are the Cauliflower Soup and anything with Mama's house smoked pulled pork. It is so tender and juicy. I ordered the Banh Mi Sliders that included the pulled pork and I wish I could have had more. I would like an entree featuring just the house smoked pulled pork. read more

Stopped in last week to meet family for breakfast. Must have driven by this place a hundred times. Right off of 94. 6 of us seated inside by the fireplace. Nice and clean. Server got us waters and coffees. Looks like only 2 servers. Sorta busy with brunch being served. Some of the menus were missing pages of the brunch offerings. Had to swap back and forth to see everything. The two of us ordered the Cast Iron Cinnamon rolls, apple juice, Grandmas French toast, and the Biscuits and gravy with folded eggs(?). Rest of the group ordered and then we started to catch with each other. Now we are missing spoons and sugar and the like for our coffee and still waiting on silverware and apple juice. Server is taking other orders, which is a little weird, while we are waiting for spoons and stuff. Food starts to arrive. Finally told they are out of apple juice. Cinnamon roll is very good and comes out warm. French toast is pretty big with lots of berries. My biscuits and gravy was not what I expected. They came out in a small bowl with a biscuit on the bottom, a small amount of gravy on it, and folded(sorta scrambled) eggs on top of the gravy. If the menu had said it was a bowl I would not have ordered it. The eggs were ok but what little gravy there wasn't enough for the sorta hard biscuit below it. And everything is a little overpriced. We had a $55 tab and I cannot say anything was memorable except the cinnamon rolls. Seems that other reviewers had better experiences so I would say give it a try but I think it will be awhile before we return. read more

Talk about an absolute WAGON of an establishment. We finished playing golf at Calderone and needed a bite to eat. This place is an absolute diamond in the rough. We were helped by Tory and Faith, I don't think I've seen a better duo since Lebron and Kyrie in 2016. We had a 313 pizza to start and the tastebuds have never been danced on quite like that first bite. The Dad's burger could go down as a top ten burger on this side of the Mississippi. We came here for dinner the other evening and ordered the Beef Stew and Mama's Chicken and Biscuits (basically a chicken pot pie.) Both were EXCELLENT! In fact, the Beef Stew was the best I've ever had and that humbly includes my own cooking. The beef was perfectly tender but still had some texture, the carrots and potatoes were not overcooked and perfectly done and the seasoning was spot on. The Chicken and Biscuits dish was equally delicious. Our server was extremely friendly and made us feel like we were visiting her home and not a restaurant. The ambience is fairly plain and the generic country western music was not to our taste, but at least it wasn't very loud. They had run out of the Chili Verde dish which I wanted to try so we will just have to come back for that. This is a real find in the middle of nowhere (basically) but still easily accessible from both the Ann Arbor/Chelsea and Jackson sides of the state in I-94. We will be back! read more

At the Sunday brunch, we waited over an hour for breakfast, and then had sent back burnt pancakes. Very apologetic, but it seemed like the cook must've been overwhelmed. So much potential! But today, at least, they didn't live up to it. Two women working behind the counter, but only one appeared to be actively waiting tables for the *entire* restaurant. The second was bussing tables? Heard the server return to a table next to us to advise "Sorry, we're out of cereal" after kids had been patiently waiting for 20+ minutes? Their food was brought out in increments. My Huevos Rancheros were a)not hot and b)served with scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs. (?) Hubby tried to ask for a side salad. They didn't have all the ingredients. He asked for a plain waffle. Wound up with chocolate chip waffles (with apologies) 'cause chocolate chips were "already in the batter". Just lots of procedure based things needed to improve enough for repeat customers... Pros: loved the building, and availability of outdoor seating! Very cute! I stopped in today to try the brunch menu, which appears to be the initial stage of the transition from the Clear Lake Grill to Mama's. The food was outstanding, and everyone at my table enjoyed what they ordered immensely. I personally ordered the chicken and waffles. This version was Jiffy cornbread waffles served with fried chicken and hot honey butter. The chicken was everything you want in fried chicken; crispy and juicy, well-seasoned and not overly breaded. The cornbread waffle was a nice alternative to a traditional waffle and the spicy honey butter brought everything home. I actually asked for the recipe because i think i prefer that to most any syrup I have ever eaten. The Irish Coffee was tremendous and was suspiciously reminiscent of the famous Irish Coffees served at the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco; I'm guessing whomever designed the cocktail menu has been--and perhaps worked--there before. Much like my previous visit this establishment (as the "Clear Lake Grill" but since the new ownership transition) the service was attentive, efficient, and friendly without any hint of pretension. They were busy and got behind. We had to wait for menus, then ordering everything all at once. The Irish coffee was probably the best I've had. Regular coffee was really good as well. I got the Greek skillet with over medium eggs and it was really good. My sister got the breakfast burrito which she said was really dry and was missing cilantro, sour cream, and avocados, which we asked for and received right away. It did take over 30 minute to receive our meal and our whole order was on the house for the wait we had. read more

By looking at it, inside and out, you would think the food would be home cooking. Other than chicken on the menu, there wasn't any home cooked comfort food. The menu was a combination of urban, chic, overpriced dishes. I think they would do themselves a favor and overhaul their menu. Including pork chops, pasta, pot roast ect. Stopped here on the way home from purchasing a Christmas tree at Arend's. The staff was very friendly and accommodating for our larger group. The wait for our meals was longer than expected which might have been due to our party. I ordered the pot pie which was much smaller than expected for the price. It pains me to say this but as a baker, the biscuits topping the pot pie were not light and fluffy as expected but slightly hard and dense. The rest of my party had sandwiches and burgers which ranged from OK to good. The food seemed overpriced. read more
