This was our first visit to WestEnd Farm to Table and we will return. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all good. I had the quiche Lorraine, fresh fruit, and muffin while my husband had the chicken, bacon, ranch wrap and French fries. Both of our meals were delicious. The slice of quiche was generous, not a sliver of a slice as at other restaurants, and the crust was homemade. The chicken, bacon, ranch wrap was generously filled and very fresh. Hey everyone! I'm back with another riveting review! For this round we visited West End Farm to Table in Jackson Michigan. Decent place with breakfast and lunch service. We stopped in on our way home from Albion on a Sunday afternoon and the place was fairly full, but a couple tables opened up minutes after we arrived so we didn't have to wait. People were showing up the whole time we were there, so the place must be good! At West End the staff are hustling! They kept the coffees full and, let me say, it was a delicious brew! As for food, there was a wide selection. Add to that the daily specials and you'll find something for everyone. As an ameteur connoiseur of sausage gravy, I had to go for the Southern omelet. It arrived totally covered in gravy! I typically look for a nice peppery white sauce but found this rendition to be more salty than I prefer and less peppery. Otherwise, the filling was robust and satisfying. My companion opted for the chicken bacon ranch wrap. It was also nicely sized, but over salted. We aren't exactly sure why, but maybe the chef just has a heavy salt hand. (If you're sensitive to sodium this may not be the best place for you!) When we finished our meals we added a slice of homemade pie to go. Of the seven or eight pies offered, we chose the strawberry rhubarb and it was delicious, but too heavily sweetened. (anyone noticing a pattern?) Finally the service... while the place was nice, bathrooms clean, and ambience pleasant, we found the servers to be less than friendly, actually rather terse. Our server did not drop our check at the table and when we stepped to the register to pay they were rude and left us feeling small for not having it. Sooo... All in all, I'd say the place isn't bad, but could use a bit of revision. The food and the experience were passable, but both the fare and the service were saltier than either of us prefer. Wanted to love this place. Had high expectations. Wait staff was fine enough. Service time was fine enough. Most importantly to me was the food. Ordered a turkey reuben "stacked high" with turkey. The turkey "pieces" were very small and "sad". So disappointed. Not at all what I expected for $15. Will not be back and will not recommend. Can make this sandwich at home for 50 cents or less. About two hours after we left, my sister asked if farm-to-table was code for "the farm owns the restaurant." I frustrate when presented with questions I can't answer and no longer able to ask others. Either way, it's great food and better coffee. The one critique I have is the sausage gravy. Bland, bland, wonderful consistency but.... bland. Secondly, (according to my sister), the corned beef hash was seriously lacking corned beef. It tasted pretty good so she just stick with it. We generally don't send things back unless they really offend! I must report the love I have for their bacon. Now, that tasted great! It wasn't burned up or over crispy or super greasy. I also ordered a mushroom spinach omelette that couldn't be beat. My sister's partner, Jennifer, recommends the pancakes with butter only. That's sick. Syrup, please! My way of thinking is if you're breaking your fast at a farm to table place, you should order eggs, meat and vegetables. Things like pancakes and hash wouldn't be on my list. But I digress. The folks here are beautiful and so friendly, we didn't want to leave. The eatery is clean and easy for travelers to find. The prices are in right in line and in some cases very inexpensive for the quality received. They also feature a large selection on the menu. We discovered one of Jackson's gems today. It's not a huge place but it's fantastic so if you have to wait- know that it's worth it. They have a variety of selections so I think it's safe to say something for everyone. One of the better restaurants in Jackson! The food is very down home, comforting, and overall tasty. Plus, the menu is large and diverse, with some unique specials. I like breakfasting here on the weekend, but I think everyone has the same idea - it can get a little busy for a Jackson joint. Plan accordingly and try to get there early. Absolutely delicious with a great atmosphere! We were in Jackson for business and wanted a good breakfast. I ordered quiche which was delish. Served with the best pumpkin muffin I have ever tasted; moist but not mushy, pumpkiny with just right kick of spice. Also served with a side of fruit that was literally fresh, and not thawed out from a bag with nasty unripe melon as a filler. It was the perfect accent to my meal. Stumbled upon WestEnd on the way to Kalamazoo. It's a couple minutes off of 94, but easy to get to. The atmosphere is very breakfast spot-esque and there seemed to be many regulars. I was happy to see a decent amount of fresh, non-greasy food, but unfortunately there weren't a ton of vegetarian options. I ended up getting a salad with quinoa and made made few alteration, which they prepared no problem. The other person in my party had to send their sandwich back, because it was prepared incorrectly, but they were apologetic and happy to remake it. If I'm ever in the area I would like to stop by for breakfast or one of their many pie options! read more

A farm-to-table restaurant tells me that a farm owns the restaurant, is located at or near a farm, and serves items from that farm. Is that the case here? I'm not so certain, but that's for you to decide, based off your own impression of the phrase and title. The seat yourself system was met with an open table, which was good, and the place was quite busy - another good sign! Waitstaff was slammed, and it took a bit to get to us. Quite understandable, and nothing that wasn't unexpected. The option existed to have canned corn beef hash, or house made. I chose house made with a biscuit. My co-diners had burgers and a wrap. My eggs were cooked to order, but my take on house-made corned beef hash is that it should be more than the standard shredded hash browns with sliced corned beef added, which is what I was served. It was fair, but tasted exactly as I described: Standard shredded hash browns with sliced corned beef hash added. The biscuit was pretty dense and heavy, and the associated gravy, I'm betting that I could even name the canned brand, as I use the same one at home. (I know, I know... I'll try making my own soon, I swear!) The burgers and wrap were hits with my co-diners. That being said, I believe the experience is summed up in Yelp's definition of 3 stars: It was A-Ok, but I'm not sure the title of the restaurant is clearly defined. read more
