I was starving late at night and decided to get some pasta mind you this is not the first time I've had mama sambusa first time wasn't disappointing but this time I called to order 1 shrimp pasta the lady said it'll take 20mins cuz the shrimp takes time to make? My girl friend and I went to Mama Sambusa not knowing exactly what the ambiance was going to be, whether it was take out or dine in, but we were eager either way. As we were walking around the corner (looking lost), Mama herself greeted us and asked us what were looking for. When we told her the restaurant, She let us know she had just returned from Africa, they were not ready with all their ingredients, and could only offer tacos and/or sandwiches. We were happy to order chicken tacos, takeout only. Even though the restaurant wasn't open to patrons, Mama was so hospitable. We waited about 20-30 minutes, but the food was well worth it! We ate the tacos in our car, and Mama even ran over to us while eating and offered us a Sambusa that was now ready (also so amazing). Be prepared for cash only. I only tried the chicken and beef sambusas this time but will return to try the pasta (and get more sambusas). I took them to go and nearly drove off the road smelling them on my way home. Cooked by Mama Sambusa herself, the sambusas were flavorful and juicy inside. The outside was crisp and chewy in all the right ways. Not soggy or oily at all. Clean tasting. (They actually clean their oil!) The beef one is slightly spicy but not overwhelmingly so. It is the most traditional and I'm glad I had the foresight to get an extra one for "tomorrow" aka I devoured them all the moment I got home. You might have noticed that they are open until 4am. I confirmed that this is not a typo. I could see this being a handy piece of information on a Friday or Saturday night if you get my drift. Lastly, they accept credit card, but they use Square, so cash would probably reduce their cost of operations. Black and immigrant owned. Come to support, but keep coming back for the food. read more

ven during the height of COVID, they delivered great service. I've tried so many items on their menu and they're all good but my favorites are the Sambusa's and Sarah's Spaghetti. Sarah's Spaghetti is full of flavor and has the right amount of spice. The meat sauce is rich but not heavy. The portion size is unbelievable. It's more than enough for two people or to eat over two days. I've had sambusa's from other places and these are by far my favorite. Non of the flavors in it overpower the others; that's key for me. I ordered on their website which is all over their instagram, waited the 40 minutes, paid and even called which the number does NOT work. Once I arrived someone comes out and says she has not done any online orders and she "knows nothing about the internet" she then proceeds to tell me to get request my money back but I can't request my money back on a online website. Around 2:30am on a Friday, my friend and I optimistically searched for open restaurants to satisfy our late night cravings. Luckily we stumbled across this gem -- the menu photos caught our attention and let's just say it did not disappoint in person! The owner Honey was super kind and welcoming (especially for someone working until 4 in the morning). We ordered the fettuccine alfredo with chicken, house salad with grilled shrimp and several sambusas (veggie and salmon). Even tho a little pricey, the portion sizes were relatively big and worth every bite! The fettuccine with chicken was super creamy and flavorful, a little oily and heavy but overall delicious and would definitely recommend. The salad was solid -- super fresh ingredients, dressing was very rich (also slightly heavy), but the shrimp was perfectly cooked and seasoned amazingly. The sambusas, aka Ethiopian samosas, were fried well and had a great crunch. Sadly, we ate them without realizing there was sauce provided. The food here is so bomb. The chicken sandwich and fettuccine are so gob-smackingly delicious that it's worth the long wait times. The chicken sandwich is crispy with this secret golden sauce that's similar to a honey mustard-mayonnaise blend. I'm glad chicken breast is used instead of thigh since it keeps the sandwich from being too heavy. And oh man. The fettuccine. The fettuccine, you guys. It was so savory and creamy - definitely had to split it into a couple of meals. But this dish really hits the spot when it's 2 in the morning and you just finished a rainy and cold squidding session. Which is when I had it. I haven't given reviews in a good long while, but Mama Sambusa's is delicious and noteworthy for their food alone to leave a review. But let's really top off this review - the service is amazing. My experience with Mama Sambusa Kitchen was not as great as the other reviewers. I called the restaurant around opening time (4pm) on Saturday to see if I could place an order for delivery through UberEats. I was told that they were not yet prepared to take delivery orders and that I could call them to place an order around 5pm. I waited an entire hour to give them a call and they did not answer. In fact, my calls started going straight to voicemail after the 3rd attempted call. I saw the address listed on Yelp so I decided to make a trip there. When I arrived, no one seemed to be there. I asked the men at the convenience store next door if Mama Sambusa Kitchen was open and one of the gentleman told me that she doesn't usually open until 5pm (By that time it was already 5:12pm). If you're hungry and time is important to you, this may not be the place to try out. Punctuality is important and this place doesn't seem to care. read more

I love that this place is right across the street. I have been here a few times and each time had great food. I have had the gyro, different sambusas, pasta, desserts...if it's on the menu, I've ordered it. Everything has been delicious. Most recently I had a pasta dish that I ordered late night and it was such a treat after a long night at work. The sauce was zesty and the noodles were cooked just right. Their cheesecake selection is great, I had the biscotti cheesecake and it slapped. Truly, everything I have had here is so good. The wait can be a little long, but good, fresh food takes times, so call ahead if you aren't particularly patient. Came here late at night for a quick bite with my bf and didn't think too much of it since we were tired and just wanted to fill our tummies real quick. Our food came a little late (but very understandable, it was really late at night) but they accommodated us with their BOMBBBB golden sauce, some extra sambusas, and even offered some drinks to go with our food (we kindly declined because we already had drinks). As for the food itself...everything was delicious. We ordered their spaghetti, chicken sambusas, and beef sambusas. My bf didn't really like the spaghetti because he likes heavy sauce but I actually liked how it was light on sauce and extremely flavorful at the same time. The sambusas were basically flavor bombs in your mouth--not greasy at all and extremely crunchy and packed with flavor inside. We didn't even know there were sauces that they offered and I'm so glad they gave one for free because it was soooooo good (I cannot stress this enough). Late night sambusas that are made to order? This is a miracle. Came here one night after work and ended up ordering 2 Chicken sambusas (they were sold out of the other options). Wait was roughly less than 10 minutes because they are fried when you order. I recommend calling before you arrive. I was asked if I wanted sauce and spicy. YES!!! I will never turn down an option to add more flavor to my food. This is the best sambusas I've ever had. Perfectly crunchy and when you take your first bite, all the essence and aroma seeps from the sambusa and it just takes over your senses. My only problem was that I'll have to order extra spicy next time, because for me it wasn't spicy at all. If you like sambusas or simply just like fried food, this place is a must try. Theres little excuse to not come here given that they are opwn till 4AM. I have to warn you that they do sell out early. To start off the service was exceptionally bad. They had us wait outside for someone for far too long. That in itself was frustrating along with the server not communicating with us properly and it took 3 people for us to even get our food started. After our food seemed to be started or more so acknowledged it took them 30+ minutes to get our food ready. When we received our food to pay for it we were told 3 different prices and only allowed us to pay in cash. I ordered the shrimp pasta and a shrimp and chicken pasta and it sadly was way too salty, both my and my boyfriend agreed. Couldn't even eat the chicken or shrimp . If you go, just ask for the protein to not be too salty. She Just over seasoned it a bit. Food itself is aesthetically pleasing and is cooked correctly , not under done or over done. I dont do reviews much but this is my best late night go to's! Their sambusas are so homey and hearty it warms my heart! They make them fresh no matter how late it is! I got their beef sambusas and it was a burst of flavor on the first bite! Very generous on the spices and its absolutely delicious, if you dip it on their specially made sauce it changes the entire flavor profile to a whole new level of savory and sweet delicate taste! I know they say it's open really late hours but every time I go even if it's just in the evening they are all out of things or not even open. I try calling before hand but can never reach anybody. The one time I did eat there the Sambusa's were tasty but the chicken pasta didn't have that much sauce to it and the sauce didn't have that much flavor but the chicken flavor was good just a little dry. The salads and fish tacos are so yummy. The desserts are lovely and the sambosa are delicious. The owner is sweet, responsive, and makes everything from scratch.
