Good!! I like this place! Similar to one of my favorite Malaysian restaurants that doesn't exist anymore, so this was a nice find. It's simple, but i love the roti with the various curries. The salted egg fish (?) was a family favorite, but i wasn't a fan of the salted egg texture on the outside of the fish even though it did taste good. The sizzling tofu was another family favorite. I thought the fried rice was okay, flavor was kind of bland and it wasn't anything special. My family definitely would come back though. Service was pretty good too
This little place inside Jusgo had some of the most amazing food. Service is always great. Had the satay, beef flat noodles, golden rice with randang and fried chicken, roti with randang and roti with chicken. Everything was amazing
Mamak is another staple of the Jusgo Supermarket restaurant scene. Many of my Malaysian friends have emphasized that food here tastes authentic and comparable, if not better, than food in Malaysia. That's a very high praise. Every time I come, my must orders include the roti sampler and the satay combo. The roti is layered, soft, and so buttery- literally my favorite. The satay skewers with the paired sauce is delicious as well. The rest of my dish rotation includes the sizzling tofu, laksa, hainese chicken, beef rendang rice plate, and sometimes a noodle dish as well. Everything on this menu has great flavor profiles. I think my only slight qualm is how expensive comparatively the menu is here. The portions are pretty small compared to the prices. Otherwise, service, ambiance, and food are great.
Mamak is in a corner of the restaurants placed at the entrance of Jusgo. The restaurant was slightly dimly lit with cute light fixtures and lots of seating. When we got seated, ordering was very quick and so was getting our food. My friend and I shared the roti canai with curry sauce. The roti came out pipping hot and it was soft but not very crispy. I still thoroughly enjoyed it though! The dips and the roti were a classic and so yummy 8/10. My friend and I also both got laksas, I got the mamak and she got the fish-fillet. The mamak comes with chicken, fish tofu, fish skin, bean sprouts, and eggplant. Both bowls had so much protein which definitely felt worth the price! My bowl was room temperature as I ate it which decreased the appeal as the curry became lukewarm but my friend's stayed hot the entire time. The noodle portion and texture were good as well. My friend's bowl was also a little bit spicier than mine, which I would have liked more as it felt more flavorful. I also wish the laksa was a bit creamier.
I come here pretty regularly and it is still all good. My favorite is still the curry laksa. My guy that works there knows my order by now. Never crowded and the food comes quick. Great spot for Malaysian.
Fast service. Nice variety of dishes. We tried the fried rice, coconut rice, nasi lemak, roti with curry, and the beef satay. The taste is very authentic. The roti came with 3 different sauces- a curry, green sauce and a tamarind sauce. I had never had the tamarind sauce with roti. For me that one sauce made the meal unforgettable. The satay and peanut sauce with a side of cucumber was comforting. The nasi lemak was ok, not my favorite. The coconut rice was very underwhelming. The fried rice was nothing special. You can byob Totally worth a try. Would go back as other Malaysian restaurants are not in the area.
Have tried different Malaysian restaurants throughout Houston and decided to give Mamak a try while in the area. Service was quick and the staff were attentive in taking our orders and food came out quick. We ordered the Mamak curry laksa, beef rendang roti and sizzling tofu which all had a great flavor profile. The roti is always a fan favorite with three different types of dips, my favorite being the beef rendang which had a nice salty spicy kick. The noodles went well with the bean sprouts which added a nice crunch and the soup was creamy from the coconut milk paired well with fish balls, eggplant and tofu. The sizzling tofu had a proportion of tofu which melts in the mouth to the sauce that included shrimp and mushrooms. This went super well with the white rice. Overall, a great dining experience and fulfilled our craving. Will be back to try their other dishes!
This place was delicious! I have never had Malaysian food, and I was pleasantly surprised. There was so much flavor and spice in all of the dishes I had! There were so many options as well, and the service was great! It is a tad hard to find as it is in a big grocery shopping center, but there's plenty of parking which was nice. I had the sweet and sour shrimp which was delicious because there were tomatoes and peppers in the dish which made it extra tasty.

Our favorite was the salt and pepper fish fillet, but we both agree that all that we ordered are good. The roti was fluffy and warm. The noodles in the char kway teow were seasoned well. Simply delicious, and we were stuffed at the end of the meal! Prices are also fairly reasonable. The food also came out quickly, and the staff helped with all of our requests. Will definitely come back again! Previously, I've also tried the curry laksa and hainan chicken with rice, which I also enjoy! The only problem I think is having to pick what to eat next time!!
Affordable Malaysian, one of the better Asian restaurants in Sugarland! Conveniently located inside the 99 Ranch. + Laksa is solid, not too oily. + Golden fried salt and pepper calamari is fire + Sizzling tofu is solid + Fair pricing + Nice ambiance - Waiter didn't hear us well and punched in an order for two appetizers when we asked just for a recommendation between the two...
Ordered take out from here since I was craving Malaysian food. I got the nasi lemak and roti! Roti was done well, I could taste the flakiness and it paired well with the sauces. Both came with chicken curry which was so flavorful. I can't tolerate spice but I couldn't stop eating it! The coconut rice was so fragrant and the peanuts and anchovies combined made a good experience. I would definitely recommend ordering from here at least once!
We revisited Mamak on a weekend for lunch. It was fairly slow foot traffic around noon. The owner (?) was a bit rude. After we ordered, he said they had no noodles for the char kway teow; this is fairly ridiculous for Malaysian cuisine. The dish is literally made with flat rice noodles (kway teow). This is like saying Popyes is out of fried chicken. He suggested to replace it with different egg noodles and we obliged; it wasn't very good. Our food was ready extremely quickly and when he served the food, he almost slammed the dishes on the table. Really freaking odd and unprofessional. Based on the two visits, the experience was very inconsistent and we will be going somewhere else to dine in the Sugar Land area going forward. read more
As one of the only full fledged restaurants in JusGo, Mamak holds the distinction for being the only Malaysian establishment in Sugar Land (#1) and more importantly, is one of the best options for Malaysian fare in all of the Houston area. The combination of Malay Bahasa and accented Mandarin is often spoken by the staff, along with a few Teochew words thrown in between. They're warm, friendly, and make solid recommendations depending on preference. The interior is spacious, airy, primed with lots of open seating but is often empty. Almost each time I've dined here I was the only customer or among the only people dining at all. The roti canai is among the better versions I've had since being in Texas. The bread is perfectly flakey and is a lethal combo with their nicely spiced chicken curry. Equally impressive was the laksa, which featured a heavy dose of coconut milk and a broth that could cure any winter blues. Their generic chicken curry was everything but as it packed heat, flavor, and plenty of soft potatoes to go with the texture bomb of the white rice. Both the beef and chicken satay impressed, as did the char kway two which was only a tinge only with plenty of 'essence" in the wok char (#2). The only dish that didn't hit was also the most expensive one, which was beef rendang, one of my all time favorite dishes. While the curry was pungeant and flavorful, the meat was tough all the around. The chewiness is a turn off, especially when it comes to sauce heavy dishes. Mamak is the kind of place where good food and good company thrive. JusGo doesn't get a lot of kudos for featuring quality options but trust when Mamak is the real (Malaysian) deal. ___________ (#1) For now. (#2) Wok hei. read more
Happy to find out this is the same Mamak as the one used to locate in Chinatown. Like any no frills authentic Asian spots, service is pretty minimal. We ordered couple of the Malaysian cuisine must haves. The portions were solid and the flavors were on point. My favorites are the sizzling tofu, Hainan chicken and roti. I'd definitely recommend this place! read more

Char Koay Teow and Wat Tan Hor ( Cantonese Fried Noodles) is really fantastic, the wok hey is incredible. Chicken Satay is great. Will be going back to dine more. read more

Me and my 5 kids went here to have a family dinner to teach them what an AUTHENTIC Malaysian cuisine is like It was amazing and my kids said it tasted like WAP What does that mean? I'm guessing it means it tasted great The service was good and the staff was really nice and I think they're authentic too The ambiance reminded me of a Malaysian mermaid Me and my kids are from Louisiana and it was our first time trying AUTHENTIC food from other places My son Jonathan said that he would come back So if you're from the country side this restaurant is for you My 24 month old also likes the soup read more

Decided to try this place out just for a quick dinner and we thought it was great! It sits inside the jusgo so the parking was super easy. I side is pretty casual. It seemed like there was only one or two servers so it was a little slower but they were very nice and helpful when ordering. We weren't able to order much as a small group but the roti was delicious and the curry chicken went very good w it. The veggie curry was also good, I just wish the flavor was stronger. We also got some skewers and they were great. Overall, would definitely love to come again and try more. read more
We went there for lunch and their food is delicious and it came fast! We usually order roti canai with curry chicken. We also ordered coconut rice with beef rendang and sambal shrimp. It was interesting to try out all the different items that came with it. Another order is ginger and scallion beef wat tan hor. The place is nice and our waiter was great. read more
Normal tasting with average prices. Plenty of parking as it's inside a grocery plaza. For food: Kway Teow was lacking a bit in flavor/sauce. It did have a decent amount of shrimp. The roti was fresh and warm but the sauces were cold. And the portion is a bit small. The laksa was probably my favorite. It looks way more spicy then it actually is. The free water tasted like tap water. May satisfy a southeast Asian food craving in a pinch. And, you can walk around Jusgo and get groceries afterwards to walk off the food. read more

Finally had a chance to re-try Mamak recently now that we live closer to the Sugar Land location! I had tried the Bellaire location a long time ago, and it was alright as compared to Banana Leaf in the same complex, now I'm glad to have it closer to home. The place was bustling for a Friday night, even though it is kinda hidden within the Jusgo market plaza. Service was quick and efficient though, but food took longer than I'd usually expect at an Asian food establishment. - Roti Canai: flaky goodness dough, and the curry sauces were great! - Sizzling Tofu: good flavor, smaller portion thab expected, but we finished the dish! - Fried flat noodle: smaller portion as well, too much bean sprout to noodle ratio in my opinion. - Nasi Lemak: fragrant coconut rice, crispy fried chicken, and crunchy anchovies were on-point! The shrimp was just so-so though. Tl;dr: expect smaller portion than Chinatown staples, but otherwise flavors were there! read more

If you have not tried Malaysian food before, you're in for a treat! I love how so many cultures and flavors are infused into the classic Malaysian cuisine. Since I was in a hurry when I visited, I ordered a simple rice noodle dish along with roti, and it was satisfying. However, I was disappointed to find that the roti are not made fresh from scratch in-house. One other area of improvement is their order taking process: I ordered two items, but they managed to get one of the items wrong. Other than the slight inconvenience, all other aspects of the service received was great. I will warn though that this restaurant tends to be busy, and even when some tables might look "empty", they might be "reserved", so be sure to prepare for lines or also make reservations ahead of time. read more
This place is absolutely delicious. A real GEM in Sugarland. We ordered 4 dishes and all of them were delicious. I actually think you can't go wrong here. If you can only get 1 dish, get Seafood Curry Laksa. The sizzling tofu is the best family dish. The stir-fry noodles have nice Wok Hei. Houstonians are lucky to have this place!!! read more

I'll just come right out and say it. This place gets a five from me. After returning numerous times for lunch, there hasn't been one time that they have disappointed. The ambiance is excellent to me. I always feel at ease and very comfortable when dining here. The food and the conversation just flows when I eat here, just like I'm at home. The staff is very hands off but helpful if you need anything. As for the food, I've had so many different things here and it's hard to pick a favorite. Everything is so good. I'll try to name a few. Crispy Fish Chip and Mango or Roti Canai with Curry Sauce are both great starters. All three sauces that come with the roti are excellent! The Fish Fillet Curry Laska leaves me feeling full every time. The curry has a beautiful balance and the fish, eggplant and tofu soak it all up, bursting with flavor with every bite. Rice and Egg Noodle with Curry Chicken and Shrimp will not disappoint. Sizzling Homemade Tofu is amazing! Hainan Chicken is spectacular! Beef Rendang is second to none. The eggplant in garlic sauce is delicious. I cannot think of one thing at this restaurant that I didn't enjoy and savor every bite. If you haven't eaten here before, why are you sleeping? Don't sleep! You could be eating at Mamak instead. read more
My family and I wanted to try this spot out, since we were at Jusgo already to shop for any remaining Lunar New Year groceries, like daikon. Mamak actually replaced the Sit Lo restaurant inside Jusgo. The decor didn't change at all, just the restaurant name. We haven't been to Singapore in awhile (thank you, Covid-19). So, we were craving dishes like curry laksa and char kway teow. We ordered takeout and it was ready for pick up pretty quickly. For the curry laksa, they did pack the noodles and toppings separately from the lemongrass, curry soup. I did wish they'd have provided utensils and napkins for us automatically, since we ordered 6 orders of food. I would've also liked that their electronic transaction system was in English and not Chinese. Not all customers can read this and may accidentally be overcharged. When we got home and ate these two dishes, we were all pleasantly surprised that we liked them. The curry laksa was creamy, slightly spicy, and overflowing with lemongrass and coconut milk flavors. I appreciated that the broth was not sweet either. The egg noodles were slightly overcooked, but there was a generous amount of it. The toppings paired well with the fragrant soup, especially the beancurd, fried tofu, fish cake, and fish balls. The eggplant was alright, but it didn't need to be in the soup. The char kway teow had a nice wok hey to it. But, they were quite skimpy with the beef. Next time, we plan to just order the regular char kway teow, since they don't offer much meat anyway. Overall, for my family and I, who love punches of flavor in our food, Mamak did deliver in regards to the two dishes mentioned. It's as close as it can get to the flavors of Singapore without us having to fly there. We will be back next time to try out their other dishes, like their Nasi Lemak. But, I think we'll still order their curry laksa and char kway teow as our regular go to dishes. Come check them out. read more
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! Family dinner here at least once per week. I'm so glad that Mamak is now located in Sugar Land. Flavor packed food, great service and clean restaurant. Nothing fancy...just a reliable place for when you want a great meal. It's located inside the Jusgo shopping center in its own space. Super convenient if you have to pick up something from the grocery store. I highly recommend: - beef rendang: tender beef in an amazing brown gravy/sauce - mixed vegetables in shrimp paste: nice mixture of vegetables and occasionally will have dragon beans..yummm! - curry laksa: noodles, lots of chicken/fish cake/balls covered in soupy curry goodness - roti canai...of course Staff is very friendly..bonus - BYOB!! read more

Yummy option inside the HMart! Good variety, they can prepare many different versions of Malaysian dishes depending on what meat and flavors you like. The roti was tasty. I liked the chicken I ordered, was very happy with the savoriness of the entire dish. At first it didn't seem like a big serving but I was actually really full afterwards. The anchovies and peanuts were a nice textural addition. Would love to come back and try other dishes. read more

Laksa is probably my favorite noodle soup dish. Yes, more than ramen. Yes again, more than pho. This Sugar Land spot has a few different varieties to choose from, but you can't go wrong with the creamy coconut base. It reminds me of the flavor of khao soi or khausey! My favorite parts are the fish balls, eggplants, fish cake, and tofu skin. It's like going for a treasure hunt! (And eating all the good stuff before your sister decides she wants to eat your food instead of hers) Also, yo, this restaurant and I basically have the same name. And fun fact, this place stands where my first ever dance studio used to be. Fond memories. read more
