PappaRich is my favorite Malaysian restaurant in the Houston area. I've been going to them since they first opened, and they have always been consistent and never failed to impress. The restaurant is small and clean. The servers are always nice, and the foods are always delicious. I recently stopped by around 5pm on a Saturday for an early dinner for two. It wasn't busy yet when I first arrived, but more and more customers started coming in as it got closer to dinner hours. I always have to order my two favorites: Steamed Hainese Chicken Rice set and the Roti Canai with Beef Rendan. The steamed Hainese chicken here are some of the best in Houston area. It's always super tender and flavorful. I absolutely love the roti canai here. It's always light, fluffy, and just right, and I don't think anywhere else makes them as good as PappaRich.

PappaRich is a popular Malaysian restaurant that originated in Malaysia, and has grown to over 100 locations worldwide. It's one of the only 2 US locations, with the other being in New York. You can visit them on Bellaire Food Street. It's a clean restaurant. We walked in and were immediately greeted and sat by a nice woman. We came because we were craving one thing only: Hainanese Chicken. They also have the fried option as well, but we decided on steamed. We got the half chicken and it was enough to feed 2 people. The chicken was so tender. The chicken rice was cooked perfectly, so moist and flavorful. The chicken, rice, some scallion ginger, a bit of sriracha: the perfect bite! We also had the mixed skewers (beef and chicken). The dipping sauce was good. I prefer the chicken over the beef skewers. The beef skewers were a bit tough. I wasn't the biggest fan of the seasoning they used. However, if I were to get these again, I would just opt for the chicken skewers only. If you never had Malaysian food, I recommend giving this place try. I will definitely be back to order the fried hainanese chicken.

We were in the area and thought to give PappaRich a try. It has been a couple years since we went there. Not busy as it was relatively late. We ordered the sizzling tofu with seafood and a seafood char kway teow (flat noodle). They were both ok. Thought there should have been more tofu (10 pieces total). Other places offer a bit more tofu. The seafood char kway teow as decent. They do have the sliced chili with vinegar that compliments the noodle dish and give it a kick. Staff were friendly and the restaurant well decorated and reminded me of Kuala Lumpur.

A solid 3.5 stars for the food but I'll round it up to a 4 because our server Angie was nice and accommodating. We got there at 12 noon and shockingly it wasn't busy at all. The food also came out a little too fast, which I'm not complaining about but I think my beef rendang wasn't a fresh batch. I understand that this dish takes a long time to make because they slow cook their beef but I think it was out for a while. We started off with their curry chicken roti. The roti was soft & it was fresh. The sauces that were on the side were not good. I prefer to just dip it in the beef rendang. The chicken itself was forgettable & dry. I could've just ordered a plain roti. For our mains we got the beef rendang & salted egg prawns. The sauce on the rendang was delicious but the beef itself wasn't that tendered and melt in your mouth. & it was kind of dry too. They either cooked it too long or the batch wasn't fresh. The prawns were lightly fried and the batter was seasoned to perfection. The salty egg sauce added extra flavor to the dish. Overall, it was a good experience. Food was solid, service was great and the place was clean & well put together. Will I come back? Yes.

My friend and I were craving roti and we were nearby, so we decided to stop by. We came around 6:30 PM and service was so quick. There were only 1-2 servers but they were so attentive and helpful. The food came out relatively quickly and was so good! This was my third time here and I have ordered the roti every time. The roti was made perfectly with a combination of crispness and softness. I could order just 3 portions of just the roti 10/10. As for the noodles, I wish there were more protein in it but I couldn't complain because the sauce and the texture of the noodles were so good. They were chewy and thick, holding onto the sauce well. They had a rich soy- sauced flavor 8.5/10!

This place is legit! Hainan chicken rice - The chicken was very tender, perfectly done. The rice however lacks flavor. Sauce was good too! Laksa - Beware that it may be too spicy for some. I loved it. The ingredients were great and the soup flavor was intense and rich. It already have fish ball so unless you want prawns, get the extra otherwise, chicken is a little cheaper. Good noodles. Taste like the authentic one. Chow kwai teo - The flavor was very good. It's not curry based unlike some Chinese restaurant just add cut powder. This one was authentic. Luck Texan, this place is legit.

If you're looking for a Malaysian restaurant, this is a good place to try. The food is very good especially ghe sizzling tofu, water spinach in sambal sauce, fried calamari in salted egg abd even the rotis. The place is not that big but adequate, the server are very friendly and service is fast.

We were in Bellaire, this place hit the spot! I really wanted hainanese chicken and they have a little set that was PERFECT. If you want 1/2 chicken, there is a larger dish that you can order. We paired this with a mushroom and veggie stirfry. What I love about this place is that they don't do added MSG and if you want, you can ask for less sauce or less salt and the food was just the right level for me. The hainanese chicken set comes with 3 dipping sauces and a bowl of the most delicious flavored rice! I really enjoyed the ginger oil sauce on the rice... YUM. We didn't have to wait long after we sat down to order and after we ordered the food came out pretty fast. Wonderful service. You know the food is on point when you have the perfect silence. The hubs noticed we weren't talking at all because we were so engrossed in the food, LOL!

My cousin's uncle (on her dad's side) recommended we go here since I've never been before and they said this was their favorite spot for malaysian food. My cousin who had been to Singapore said she liked this place also because their food reminded her a little of the food she had in Singapore. We came for a Sunday lunch and it was somewhat busy, they had several tables open but the groups that came in were of at least 4 people. There was probably 1-2 people serving but I only saw 1 person taking orders and she was going to each table that just got saw to take everyone's orders on her Ipad. We had asked for water and that took a while to get brought out to us but eventually we got cups of water and bowls/ utensils then the food started coming out. We had also asked for small sharing bowls 3 times to 2 different people that never got brought out because we wanted to share the Laksa but eventually someone brought out some bowls when they saw we were trying to share the Laksa. I'd come back here but maybe try to go on a non-busy hours of operation so we can potentially get better service.

Do not order takeout online here. I wanted to try their Wat Tan Hor for lunch, but what I received looked nothing like the description. It was basically a plate of leftover-looking rice noodles with no chicken or shrimp as advertised. I honestly don't even feel safe eating it. And yet, it cost me $17. That's insane -- it feels like robbery and leaves you feeling disgusted. Avoid this restaurant, at least when it comes to online orders.

PappaRich is my favorite Malaysian restaurant in town! The waiters are incredibly kind, the service is fast, the restaurant is always kept clean, and the food is delicious! This time around, I brought a friend to try it out for her first time! We got the sizzling tofu, the char kway teow, and the roti. Everything was a 10/10! The sizzling tofu was slightly crispy on the outside and so silky inside. The roti was flaky and I loved the variety of curries to dip it in. Everything was seasoned super well. I am always excited to come back here!

Papparich has a nice interior decoration. Staff was very friendly and service was excellent. Food came out very quick since it was a Monday night. Ordered the plain roti canai; came with 3 sauces. Enjoyed this! Tofu came out on a sizzling plate, but it wasn't sizzling :/ Tasted alright Was disappointed with the hokkien mee. The color was off (usually darker) and it wasn't savory enough. Highlight of the dinner was the Fried Hainanese chicken. Super delicious! Great flavor, juicy chicken, crispy skin, and a variety of sauces! Would mainly come back for the roti, fried Hainanese chicken, and to try other dishes.

No regrets all…read morearound--everyone thought it was a great place to eat, catch up, and spend the afternoon. Malaysian Grilled Chicken Satay - Super tender with a sweet peanut sauce that really accentuated the flavors. Probably my favorite appetizer so far--had to be extra careful around my BF after this! Definitely my brother's personal favorite; I'm sure he ate 3 of them! Hainanese Chicken & Rice - Very tender and chewy with a mild flavor. The ginger-and-scallion sauce at the bottom was very refreshing, and the aromatic rice was among the most delicious I've had! I saw that the grains looked similar to Vietnamese broken rice because they weren't fully rounded. For some reason, this made the texture so much more appealing to me. Curry Chicken Puff - Love the curry flavor of this and the delicacy of the puff pastry. The shell isn't too thick, and the vegetables are very well infused with the curry, making them strong contributors to the overall flavor. Despite it being a pastry, I didn't feel overwhelmed by the carbs--indicating that the breading-to-stuffing ratio of this sat at the perfect pinnacle. Malaysian Roti Canai - One of my absolute favorite dishes here. I would come to this place just for this--the whole table compared the combo to crack. No joke. The chicken and potatoes are some of the most tender pieces in this dish, and you could slurp the broth like it's its own dish. I watched this go way too fast, and even two orders per table were not enough to satisfy the crowd. Malaysian Roti Canai (w. Egg) - Love the original much more, but this was still very delicious. They made the egg very thin, so it didn't overwhelm the roti. The egg took away from my favorite roti taste, but it was so well seasoned I wasn't even that angry about it. Malaysian Char Kuey Teow (Migoreng) - OOH. This has a unique flavor --much more savory than packaged ramen. The texture of the noodles is very inviting. It's much less salty compared to the pre-packaged Migoreng. The flavor was more umami. Rich, deep, and just the perfect amount to coat the noodles. Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetable (w. Tofu) - This is a very saucy vegetable dish, but I didn't mind it at all. I loved it, though it was the last dish I had and I was definitely stuffed by then. The sauce reminds me of a thinner Migoreng sauce--more viscous than a loose sauce, but not as thick as Migoreng. Very good, but my taste buds were definitely overwhelmed by then. Malaysian Milk Tea - Not as sweet as I expected. I was told the tea leaves were imported from Malaysia, and our table ended up ordering six of them. The lingering bitterness in the aftertaste is something I'm very fond of, and the tea flavor is exceptionally rich. The milk infusion in this is exceptional. Malaysian Lime "Calamansi" & Plum Drink - Tasted like a lime-tamarind drink to my BF, while my brother and I thought it tasted like Vietnamese chanh muối. Overall, Uncle Chin's lived up to the hype, just as I knew it would from the day my BF brought home leftover roti from his very first visit. The buzz of having 16 people definitely distracted me from paying close attention to every dish--I even missed taking a few photos--but one thing remained true: everyone was talking about the food. Every time a new dish came out, the table erupted with commentary about its flavor, uniqueness, and overall impact. Some dishes stole the show more than others (my lovely roti, hello), but every single one earned its place on the menu. Very sad we didn't get to see Uncle Chin sing, but with 16 people to serve during the lunch rush, I'm sure he was pretty overwhelmed.

Parking here will forever and always be terrible, but besides that, this place was almost entirely empty, especially for a weekend lunch (we did come almost right at opening time, but there were only like a few other customers by the time we finished). I think the main issue with this restaurant is the menu. With a wide variety of options with different cuisines, I felt that the quality of dishes was lower than I wanted. That aside, I absolutely loved the roti canai, with it being almost perfectly crispy, buttery, and tasty. The fried rice was really flavorful with the salted fish, almost verging on too strong. The curry noodle soup we got was not very strong and was a little bit disappointing. The beef tripe was so incredibly tasty, though the spice was a little bit much for my family. The beef dry hot pot was nice, though I only really liked the beef and not much else on it (some of it was bitter, other parts were just too salty). I don't think this place is terrible. We did come as one of, if not the first, customers in the restaurant, so everything was made fresh and was hot as we ate it. I just think was so much competition surrounding it in this busy shopping center, I don't think it accomplishes enough to be a go-to place for my family.

The combination of Malay Bahasa and accented Mandarin is often spoken by the staff, along with a few Teochew words thrown in between. They're warm, friendly, and make solid recommendations depending on preference. The interior is spacious, airy, primed with lots of open seating but is often empty. Almost each time I've dined here I was the only customer or among the only people dining at all. The roti canai is among the better versions I've had since being in Texas. The bread is perfectly flakey and is a lethal combo with their nicely spiced chicken curry. Equally impressive was the laksa, which featured a heavy dose of coconut milk and a broth that could cure any winter blues. Their generic chicken curry was everything but as it packed heat, flavor, and plenty of soft potatoes to go with the texture bomb of the white rice. Both the beef and chicken satay impressed, as did the char kway two which was only a tinge only with plenty of 'essence" in the wok char (#2). The only dish that didn't hit was also the most expensive one, which was beef rendang, one of my all time favorite dishes. While the curry was pungeant and flavorful, the meat was tough all the around. The chewiness is a turn off, especially when it comes to sauce heavy dishes.
