We were craving Thai food and decided to try Baan. I usually go for the Pad See Ew, but this time the flavor felt a little lacking. It was missing some of that sweetness I usually expect from the dish, and a few parts of the noodles were still white, almost like they did not get enough sauce. This was our first stop for Houston Restaurants Week and we were impressed with this menu. So many great choices. I had the Nam Khao Tod salad where the sausage and peanuts hit the spot with flavor. The steak basil was delicious. It was cooked just right. The mango sticky rice was wonderful! That was my favorite! My friend ordered it as well and enjoyed it as much as I did. Was very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We ordered the thai garlic fish, basil fried rice, tofu pad thai, green thai tea, and roti with curry sauce. The basil fried rice and pad thai both had perfect seasoning and tasted yummy. The thai garlic fish was the star of the show. The edges were crispy and the insides were tender and soft. The green thai tea was creamy and had a nice strong tea taste. The only item I was not super impressed by was the roti. I wish the roti was flakier, but the sauce itself was good. The restaurant is pretty small, but service is quick! read more

I've been here a handful of times with my husband. We always had a good experience. The last time we went the server was annoyed and rude because she couldn't get my order right. The food was mediocre. The chicken in the curry tasted like it was frozen and dry. We probably won't be going back. read more

The decorations are cute and the restaurant is clean. Parking is easy. Service was courteous and fast. Really like the staff. The food was not bad but unfortunately it didn't stand out amongst the other Thai restaurants in the Katy area. The one thing we didn't like was the sticky rice in the plastic bag. Not really sure the thinking behind this but heat + plastic to leave another step for the customer? Mmm. Could do without. Thai Tea: 5/5 not overly sweet. Tasty. Moo Ping with Sticky Rice and Kor Moo Yang were both okay but not standouts. Steamed Mussels Clay Pot - 3/5 (not bad, a little bland) My favorite dish was the northern noodle dish that combines dry and wet noodles in a rich broth. I did quite enjoy this. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was lackluster. Only because of the competition in this area, I wouldn't come back though I wish the restaurant lots of love and luck. read more

I'll definitely be coming back! The food and service were both amazing. On the top right is the roti with curry sauce, on the bottom is the mango sticky rice, and on the top left is the moo bing with sticky rice. The moo bing was my favorite--it was so flavorful! We were craving Asian cuisine, wanted to stay in Katy, and hoped to try a restaurant from my Instagram saved posts. This place met all three criteria! Located in the same shopping strip as Baskin-Robbins, I've noticed many restaurants come and go there, but I hope this one stays because Katy needs more diversity. On a Sunday evening, the restaurant had a few occupied tables. I appreciated seeing the owner dining there herself, observing the flow of business. Our waitress was extremely enthusiastic when describing the menu. We chose the Tom Yum soup, Pad Kee Mao, and a curry. The soup was great--I loved the tanginess. The Pad Kee Mao was spot on: the perfect carby goodness I needed, with a nice hint of basil. The thick noodles had a soft texture and were perfectly cooked. The curry, however, had an off-putting taste. After informing the owner, she apologized and removed the item from our table and bill. With friendly service and other dishes being on point, I wouldn't deduct points for this, as they addressed the situation in a favorable way. I will return to enjoy the same dishes and try more! Considering I found this place on Instagram, I was hoping for some aesthetics across all plates; that would be my only suggestion for improvement. read more

Horrible bedside manner, the older lady wearing almost like a blazer I assumed was the manager was very rude and dismissive. The service was disgusting, but then I would see her turn around and put on a fake smile to other customers. Plus the food was very mediocre. read more

Tum plara: I don't think the fermented fish sauce is for me... but I could see others enjoying this dish if they enjoy that flavor. I think I would've enjoyed the tum thai more. Had a group dinner at Baan Talay in Katy! Located in the same lot as Crunch fitness this cute restaurant has all the charm and what it may lack makes up in flavor. Service is super friendly and the food is absolutely packed with flavor. I will list my rating for each item that we tried: 1. Roti with curry sauce Taste 3/5 Presentation 4/5 Overall very good roti but it kind of lacked the crunch that I expect at most Malaysian places. The curry was a little sweet but I actually liked it by itself more than with the roti. 2. Wings Taste 4/5 Presentation 5/5 Super crispy and flavorful. Very reasonably priced. The one I had was great but one of our dining companions said that his wasn't crunchy. 3. Crab fried rice Taste 4/5 Presentation 4/5 I wish there was more crab but the flavor was amazing. I would definitely order it again. 4. Papaya salad Taste 5/5 Presentation 100000% I could literally bathe in this. We had medium and it was spicy but not torturous. We also got the spicy one with a level 4 spicy and THAT was hot but still very flavorful. 5. Thai garlic fish Taste and presentation 100% 5 stars I could have literally eaten this whole fish by myself. I loved how crispy the exterior was without being overly salty. The interior was moist and had a great taste. The peanuts really added a lot of texture variation with the garlic flavor becoming more pronounced. The tamarind tasting seafood sauce that it came with is truly a game changer. I am going to dream about this meal for days. The desserts were good but I wish that the mango was ripe and not sour. I will think of this meal for days to come and cannot wait to return! Our server was extremely kind and friendly. And the manager Amy was very knowledgeable and checked on us throughout the dinner service along with the server. If you're looking for a authentic Thai restaurant filled with the most popular dishes: like papaya salad, grilled pork skewers, sticky rice, served in adorable straw baskets, mango sticky rice, coconut pudding, and full fried garlic fish, come on over to the spot once known as Latin express. Though I am sad Latin express is gone, I am happy for the owners and staff at BAAN TALAY. Which translates to House Beacb, in Thai. The Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee is legit. And if you're so inclined there is Singha, that is similar to a pilsner. Located in a strip mall, there is plenty of free parking. The gender neutral bathroom is clean and may be slightly larger than my first studio apartment. Overall, Baan Talay is a solid Thai restaurant with delicious eats in a sweet Thai atmosphere. 5/5 highly recommend and I have been going twice a week! Sawasdee ka! read more

New Thai restaurant next to Baskin Robbins at Mason and Highland Knolls. It's a small place, maybe 10 tables total with a beach theme for decor. For appetizers, I had the roti which was very good and the chicken gyoza which was honestly par. For the entree I had the yellow curry at a medium spice level and it was exactly the spice I would expect for medium. I loved that. Many times when I go to Thai restaurants the medium is way too spicy but this is was perfect. Service was good despite there only being one waiter for the whole restaurant. 5 stars since the khao soi was delicious. Got takeout. Can overlook the wrong spice level (ordered mildly spicy but somehow got not spicy, didn't notice until it was too late and we were home). Luckily there was chili oil you could add in along with red onions + (I think) pickled mustard greens. Super savory dish! Moo ping (pork skewers, similar to thit nuong) with sticky rice was a good appetizer option. There was fish sauce to dip the food. This is a hidden gem here in Katy. Located next to crunch fitness and baskin Robbins, this Thai restaurant is a must visit! Starting off with the interior: it gives off a fresh summer vibe which is perfect for this season. The waitress is very nice and the owner was gracious enough to come and introduce herself to us. Starting with appetizers, the chicken satay was great, with peanut sauce. My companions loved the peanut sauce however personally peanut sauce is not my favorite. The chicken satay (4 pieces) was perfectly seasoned and juicy. The chicken gyoza were okay. The crab fried rice was phenomenal! Generous portions of crab and fried rice. With every bite you will guarantee get a crab piece. The khao soi (northern thai dish) was amazing! We got medium spice and the coconut curry along with the unique concept of dried noodles in the coconut curry sauce was genius. Sum Tum Plara & Beef Larb was not as good as the first time I was there. I would say dry and not enough sauce or acidic a little disappointing. Will give them another try but not anytime soon. It didn't take long to get my food I ordered to go. The E-Saan sausages I had to put in my air fryer for that little crisp. read more

The volume of the restaurant is really reasonable so far. I ordered the Boat Noodle pork and it was very delicious. 9/10 would recommend The Thai Coconut Pudding was good and not too sweet, but not what I was expecting. By the name of the dish I was hoping it was a cold dessert. For that I would give it a 7.5/ 10. I spent about $24 on my meal. read more

Baan Talay is a nice find. Their food is packed with flavor and you feel like you are part of the family with everyone making sure you are well taken care of. It is a great place to go for a quick bite but the ambiance didn't say Thailand but the food made up for it. This is the closest place I've found to food in Thailand in TX. I love Thai food and this was such a cute little fun restaurant! I checked it out after my amassed searching for thai places nearby. Upon walking in, there's plenty of seating and it's nice and bright inside. The smell of the place reminded me of my childhood(I'm Filipino) so there was something familiar about it I couldn't put my finger on. The servers were super friendly and kind. I ended up getting the massaman curry because at a new thai place you always have to try the massaman curry first. You can choose from 5 different levels of spice, and I settled on mild just in case. I actually would have gotten it a little bit spicier. Their curry is definitely on the sweeter side, the portions are good for the pricing. For some reason, this might have just been my mistake, but I ordered the coconut dessert thinking it would be tapioca pudding. regardless of that, the dessert was really good! it wasn't what I was expecting but I think I've been to too many Thai restaurants and I always expect them to be the same. We came on a Saturday night during a slower hour and ordered the pad see ew, pineapple fried rice, and thai garlic fish. Everything was just okay-- I felt that there wasn't much flavor. The noodles in the pad see ew were a bit more mushy than chewy, and the parts I expected to be crispy on the fish were a little tough. We ordered mango sticky rice for dessert which I enjoyed. The star-shaped rice was a cute touch. Service was adequate and everything came out in a timely manner.
