Man. We had just left Croxley's next door and heard some deep cuts from Justin Bieber's latest and immediately decided to check it out. The atmosphere is everything you could ask for in a dive bar. Dope Music, great people, and affordable drinks!!! Wasted no time with our drinks and just let loose. My long time love affair with the gin and tonic reached its pinnacle at Mama's. Cucumber gin; is there is nothing more heavenly or refreshing that human hands have ever forged?! O contemporary Ambrosia! They make a ton of different infusions here--be sure to ask what the daily specials are. The atmosphere is honest--it's really not trying to hard, it's just sweet. Went here twice in one day -- had a beer after brunch at Poco to waste time until Summit's 4pm happy hour. The drinks were cheap and they had a very cool laid back atmosphere. Best of all, the playlist was so on point. Mostly Bieber and old school Mariah Carey, which is perfect for dancing. Came back again after Summit to dance some more and was not disappointed -- lots of early-late 2000s pop/R&B. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area. read more

The first 2 times we came to this place it was a fun and typical dive bar experience. The bartender (Shannon) and another bartender who's name we didn't catch were awesome, they were very friendly, chatting with everyone who came in and played great music that everyone ended up dancing to. The 3rd and unfortunately final visit to Mama's was terrible to say the least. A friend and I came here on a Friday night and instead of our normal great bartender Shannon, it was 2 female bartenders. My friend and I sat down at the end of the bar and waited for about 8 minutes before I finally waved my hand in the air to get one of the girl's attention. She responded by asking in a very arrogant and condescending tone "what do you want?" our reply was "um, 2 Stellas on tap please" When she brought us back our beers they were horrifically flat and tasted as though they hadn't cleaned the taps in months. When we told the other girl (as our bartender left to go get her and her coworker snacks) how gross they were and asked for something else she looked at us like we were crazy, poured herself a small glass of Stella and shrugged her shoulders as if we were just being picky. For the rest of the night we were lucky if we even received a glance in our direction, let alone another beer. After sitting there for 45 minutes with empty glasses we began to notice a pattern. These girls were only smiling and attentive to the male customers. My guess is assuming that they would get better tips from them. Unreal. Very disappointed, as we have had 2 other great experiences at Mama's. My recommendation would be to go on a Saturday or Sunday when Shannon and the other male bartender are working and avoid Fridays with the chicks with hidden agendas and ugly attitudes. EDIT: After receiving a snarky message from one of the bartenders at Mama's stating that they have no one named Shannon who works there and basically telling me I need to change my review because I have the wrong bar and then also seeing an apologetic reply below from Jeff stating the same I decided to search this bartender that I'm speaking of and it turns out my friend and he are friends on FB and his LAST name is Shannon. A cool bar for the money but a bit out of the way if you don't live in the area. Great atmosphere and music with new renovations. The bartenders are very cool and friendly and makes sure everyone is smashed and having a great time. I'd definitely continue to go back. read more

after brunch at fonda, just right across the street from mama's, my friends and i headed here for some drinks. a friend of mine knew the bartender, so i assume that's why we came here . . . which was fine, because the bartender (leyla, i think) was super sweet and fun to talk to. although it was kind of dead for a sunday afternoon, we had a blast. $3 PBRs, random drunkies, one or two arcade games, and the perfect big screen to watch pre-season football (though, it was the jets on at the time, so i could care less . . . haha). if i were wandering around the neighborhood and just wanted a chill dive to hang out at, mama's would be a solid choice. read more

This place is easily the GOAT. Shockingly good food (catered by Root & Bone). The bar is a prime spot for Sunday brunch!! Standout dishes include the fried chicken and short rib biscuits. We went to root & bones but they had a hour wait so they suggested we go next door to Mama's bar because they cook the food. The unlimited mimosas were great. Not full of juice and a couple of bottle for our one pitcher. we order the food which came from next door Root & Bones and it was the worst. It literally came out within 5 mins. We were kinda surprised and shocked to see the food arriving so fast. Well the food was cold. Literally cold. Only thing hot were the greens which were glory greens from the can. Chicken was dry and under cooked. Mac and cheese! Lawd! It had dry shredded cheese and bread crumbles on top. Shredded cheese on top like a taco. Waffle was dry and nasty. This sports bar is fun and lively, and a bit dive-y as well. Ive been a few times most recently to watch a game (around 530 pm on a Saturday). The bar had a good crowd but wasn't overly crowded. The drinks are not expensive. I've never tried the food because they don't start serving till 7 pm which seems silly with football/sports games on all day. read more

Unpretentious local watering hole with reasonable prices and standard pub fare. Fast service not super hard to get the bartenders attention like in some bars. Doesn't get too crowded which is good. It reminds me of a philly dive bar for those who are philly transplants like me. read more

If I gave them 5 stars, then no one would believe the quick review here. If you live in or frequent the L.E.S. then you have no problem finding a bar. Each one has a unique character. This is not one of those gimmicky tourist traps, and everyone is welcomed here. This one is one of those that you just go to when you have no idea where to get a quick drink. I favor mama's over many others because they are not pretentious, they have the sports if you are keen on that, and attract a better than average clientele and host many regulars. they have their "house infusions", etc. there is warmth and joy in this spot. read more

Was here for NYE. Had a great time! Bartenders are really friendly and personable. By the end of the night, my coat went missing and they helped me look for it. When we couldn't find it, they took my phone number and pro-actively sent me a message the next day when it was returned. I don't usually write Yelp Reviews but I can see that Mamas has been "slandered" by a girl called Natasha who has clearly never been out to the bars before. I was at Mamas the night she was there which was last Saturday night. The bouncer (simply doing his job) denied her underaged friend at the door. I saw this (blonde?) girl covered in tattoos screaming curse words and throwing a hissy fit at the staff. I am so sick of this shit happening. Has this kid never worked in the service industry before? These people are just obeying the law by not letting underaged kids in so he or she doesn't get the place shut down...For people to lash out on the servers over unchangeable rules is just petty and pathetic. Mamas is a really cool place with an incredibly kind staff, unique regulars and excellent music. If you and your high school aged friends can't respect the service and the guidelines then get the hell out of here. No one wants you around anyways. read more

Great after brunch spot. They have fro- se! Went on a Sunday afternoon and the early afternoon bartender was very friendly. After the shift change however, the Sunday evening bartender seemed like she hated her job as well as all human beings. Very unfriendly to all Customers I observed and she refused to serve us after 6 drinks as she said they have a "six drink limit" which I never heard of or think is smart for a bar buisness. Cheap drinks and a fun atmosphere + no cover and not too crowded = good bar. I have to admit when I first walked in here to meet friends I was amused by the designs on the walls and the hipster crowd but after a few drinks and a few games of Buck Hunt, I decided that I liked it. My friend drunkenly asked the DJ to play a Beyonce song and he just laughed and said no way. Haha. I was going to give this bar 4 stars but then I remembered the bathroom and almost gagged all over again. The toilet was entirely plugged up, thankfully only with TP, and it was literally disgusting in the bathroom. I walked in and my mouth just dropped open. We ended up staying way longer than I thought we would when first walking in so that's a plus. The night we went the credit card machine was busted so it was cash only. Good thing there were two ATM machines right outside. This is a bit of a trek for me from Hell's Kitchen but I like the area and can easily be persuaded to make the trip again and again. read more
