So came here recently to check out the Pride Celebration in the West Village. Like most venues it was packed with revelers. In spite of this, luckily there were no lines to get in and it was actually okay to move around within the venue all things considered. I've come here twice now and it's a pretty reliable spot for a night out in the West village! The inside of this bar is a bit small but there are plenty of booths for you to sit with friends, and the service here is quick and friendly. I've gotten both their drinks and food and both were pretty decent. The drinks were on the stronger side, and they have a good variety of cocktails and good drink deals. The place was packed. I don't know why, we had terrible service. The waitress had a bad attitude. I ordered the chicken fingers, and they were rock hard and super dry. I don't understand how you can mess up chicken fingers. My 2 friends got burgers, and they were very average nothing to brag about. My other friend got the calamari, and there were only 7-8 pieces on the plate, so if you're ordering it to share with the table, don't bother. Waste of money. I will not be back. While the vibe of the WV has shifted dramatically, dive bars never really go out of style, so this place feels very much frozen in time. I remember coming here while I was in college-- it was probably one of the first bars I could legally be in, when I knew little about what to order from a bar outside of well tequila soda. Art Bar fit the bill for my 21 year old self just looking for a place to have a drink and shed my young adult angst. Visiting recently, I found the bar to be much too loud. The music was blasting in a way such that I couldn't hear my own thoughts and opted to sit outside, because I wanted to talk with new friends I had just met and this was the only place whose kitchen was open late in the vicinity. Love Art Bar! Such a great spot to meet up in West Village. But be warned-it gets PACKED! I've usually been able to squeeze and share a table if I come with just one person. But if you're coming with a bigger group, definitely come early. I had a YUMMY hot toddy that made me happy. I've been here quite a few times as it's my go to bar in West Village, but one afternoon I sat at the bar by myself with my hot toddy and it was so pleasant while empty. For obvious reasons, their happy hour deal is incredible and that's when it's nearly impossible to find a table. Do Not Go Here (esp as a person of color) ! Serious Incident Involving Server Gabrielle L. - Poor Service, Harassment, Discrimination, and Assault! Added only part of the video of the harassment & assault. I was assaulted by a server at Art Bar. After my friend and I had already paid our bill, a server named Gabrielle L. struck my hand and knocked my phone down when she noticed I began recording due to her aggressive behavior. This was unprovoked physical contact, and I have video evidence of the incident. Earlier in the evening, the service had already been extremely poor. We waited 15 minutes just to order, our appetizer and entrée were brought at the same time, we were never checked on, and I had to ask five times for water before receiving it almost an hour later. At one point the server even slammed the water pitcher down aggressively. A 20% gratuity was automatically added, and when we asked to adjust the tip to better reflect the service, the situation became hostile. After she assaulted me, she got security escorted us out and we were told no manager was present. This was a very disturbing and unprofessional experience. I stopped into Art Bar around 2:30 AM on August 29th and had one of the worst service experiences I've ever encountered here. I come to Art Bar several times a week and usually enjoy the staff, but this particular bartender stood out in all the wrong ways. The bartender on duty, with red hair and shorts, was eating behind the bar for about seven minutes before even acknowledging me. When she finally looked up, she skipped over me completely and served another guest who had just walked in. I had to ask her to wipe the bar down because it was messy, and instead of using a clean rag, she took the same napkin she was eating with, swiped the bar once, and rolled her eyes at me. I ordered a house red and asked her to ring in two since I planned to finish both before leaving. She placed both glasses in front of me with an attitude, and when I tried to clarify the order she cut me off, saying she didn't care and didn't know what I was talking about. As I attempted to explain, she shoved the bread crumb machine in my direction as if to dismiss me entirely. At that point, I declined the order and left to spend my money down the street where late-night service is handled with professionalism. This bartender was clearly drinking, eating, and entertaining herself rather than working. Her performance was rude, careless, and a complete departure from the standard Art Bar usually maintains. I will continue to come for happy hour when the friendly and professional bartenders I know are working, but the red-headed bartender I encountered that night was unacceptable. Management should be aware that this is the impression being left on loyal customers in the late-night hours. read more

I recently returned to Art Bar, having not been back since the pandemic hit. This place was an old haunt for me when I lived and then worked in Chelsea, and my go-to spot for first dates back in the day. I was glad to love this place as much as I remembered -- the back lounge area is where it's at, with its lived-in furniture, dim lighting and candles, and a fireplace keeping things warm in winter. Drinks are reasonable for the area and the menu is pretty creative. I finally went again with my partner late on a weeknight after drinks elsewhere, and it didn't disappoint. The bartender was on her game and funny, and it was a racially-mixed crowd, which I pretty much insist on since it IS New York City. The dumplings are no longer on the menu, but the food we ordered came out fast: I loved my vegetarian sliders--you can get them with or without the cheddar cheese--and my partner (from Texas) enjoyed her 1/2 lb. sirloin hamburger and curly fries. I got the salad side but wanted a few fries, and once I encouraged my gf to have some of my salad she realized she didn't hate it, lol. I'll keep it short. Nice ambiance, almost like a speakeasy vibe with the fire pit being the cherry on top, good drinks, and fast service. We ordered three drinks, paid the bill then to realize we were charged for four drinks. It took a while to find the waitress to address the problem, but once I showed her the mistake, she apologized and refunded the difference. I read on Google that this happened to another patron. If someone is hating on art bar, they just can't appreciate its true value and purpose. The location is by one of NYC's oldest parks and in a landmark area of Greenwich village. You have to look beyond the immediate retail storefront area which is slightly transient/gas station vibes. My fiancé and I have been here at least a dozen times since 2007. What I love about it is the menu has always been vegan friendly. Their happy hour is every day 4-7. Then you are transported into another space with high ceilings, weird art, old comfy couches, feels like an opium den but its not. I don't think so at least but I just mind my business. I recently decided to meet my cousin here to grab a drink and I'm happy to be able to try a few new bars in the area. The bar is pretty small and it does tend to get pretty crowded. We were seated at the bar so I am not to sure how table service is as I didn't see many employees waiting tables. I had a margarita which was on happy hour that winded up being $4 which was pretty good. I decided to order the grilled chicken sandwich with honey mustard. I was a bit hesitant as I didn't see too many people eating nor was I able to find many pics of the food. Surprisingly the sandwich was actually really good I wished it was a bit bigger. The meal was less than $10. I think pricing is great especially for a bar in this area, if you are able to pass by during happy hour you can grab a meal and a drink for less than $15! read more

It's all about BETH! Best bartender ever. My husband and I ordered 4 drinks between us, all were stellar. In order of how much I loved them -- Butter Beer, close second--Pumpkin Pie Martini, Butter, Peanut Butter Chocolate Espresso Martini, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch Martini -- but ALL 4 were delish! We also ate Mozzarella Sticks and Buffalo Chicken Fingers, which were bang-on as well. These mozz sticks were better than I had at Italian/pizza delivery places, so I was impressed.
