I haven't been here in forever. I think the last time I was here it still had a pizza joint feel. They always has the second best pizza on the South Shore (the best was Mike's in Amityville which closed years ago). Mama's pasta night was legendary, like 13 bucks for a huge plate of past and salad, I dont know if you got dessert back then. Well, they have redecorated. It is frankly a bit too upscale. I mean, your in this lovely dark wood and tile world and dudes are just off their boats in cut off jeans. The decore is fancier than the people, but let's talk about the food. We came on "chicken night". About 2 dozen chicken and pasta dishes to choose from with salad and desert. It got chicken veggie Alfredo and it was just about perfect. Crispy breaded chicken, tender crisp broccoli, just enough of a light cream sauce. Now the not-so-perfect. The cheesecake was only ok. We gave up on asking for sugar for the coffee because it was busy. And it was busy so service was slow, there were loud drunk guys and loud sober kids. After dining at Mama's last night and religiously throughout the year .... the prices are just getting OUTRAGEOUS!!! My husband was charged $14.50 for a vodka/sprite ... something they don't even charge at Cipriani's in NYC !!! C'mon now !! You're just a pizzeria/restaurant that indeed happens to have great food. Love love love one of the best Italian restaurants on the south shore and it's not insanely expensive. Pasta nights are great with portions big enough to take home. On a regular night there's a good crowd as well. The ambiance is that of a 5star restaurant in the city with a small town/family restaurant staff. Waiters are always friendly and on point and Mama herself is frequently seen checking on restaurant goers. Ordered a pie, half meatball, well done, extra sauce. Got a pie half meatball, soupy, little sauce. Called them up (I never do that) to ask what the deal was. Got put on hold four times. Then the dude that finally answered asked me what "soupy" meant. Now if you've eaten pizza more than twice in your life, you know what "soupy" means. So I explained to this person whose livelihood is made by making pizza what "soupy" pizza is. He replied that the only way the cheese slides right off is because there is too much sauce. I then explained that I was in the know as far as the color of pizza sauce and I had no vision problems that day and could not locate much sauce on the sloppy, floppy, gooey mess he made for me. Channeling his apex customer service skills, he then said absolutely nothing. Crickets. So I said I would write a review online. Which I am wrapping up now and you are reading. Spend your money at Spasso's. One day the owner gave me a free slice for absolutely no reason. We recently went to Mama's for a nice night Italian meal but while paying for our meal I noticed that "every app and entree" was $1.50 more than what was listed on the online and in house menu. We talked to our waitress and she brought over the menu, she pointed out the fine print "all prices are subject to change". The waitress talked to the manager and advised us they are waiting for new menus and it is what it is. We were changed $7.50 more than what was post on menu. I'll never go back again, this place is shady ripping people off. Beware. read more

Honestly, we haven't visited or ordered from Mama's in over a year, primarily because their food was ridiculously over-salted. On a whim, we got some take out tonight and were very pleased. We ordered the Insalata Mista, Penne Pesto Verde and Rigatoni ala Vodka. All were pretty much perfect. Went in for dinner; we got the Sicilian pizza slice and a serving of New York Cheesecake. The cheese cake is to die for. I've never tried such smooth, creamy, and fluffy cheesecake that literally melts in your mouth. Basic chain restaurants do not compare to their cake, I highly recommend! read more

I've been here before they expanded & after they renovated and think this place has gone down hill. Had a family dinner with a large group & called to make a reservation. Was told they don't take reservations-ok. Got to the restaurant & there were two other tables pre set for large groups (same amount of people as ours). One waiter even assumed one of the tables was set up for us because I said I called, but it wasn't. Turn Off. Then came the service. The waitress had an attitude & walked away before we could as for things. Also auctioned off our food which is a no no. One of our family members got sick from the lobster ravioli & my scampi was more lemon than anything. Would not recommend & not going back. Blah. read more

This is my absolute favorite restaurant! My family and I have been coming here for years; even before they expanded and renovated. Mama's never disappoints. Their garlic knots are the best around, it's very difficult to only have one (no worries though, they'll give you more if you ask). I have never been disappointed by any of the meals I've ordered, everything is made to be delicious. It is on the pricy side, however the portions are huge so always anticipate taking home leftovers that can be eaten over several more days! It is definitely a hot spot for dinner so try to get there early if you can, otherwise there can be a bit of a wait. If you haven't been here, you should absolutely try it! read more

This Italian restaruant and Pizzaria has great Pizza and even better meals. The restaurant portion is nice and cozy with booths. The wine list is decent. I definitely recommend this place more on the weekends as the weekday food, ie monday-thursday was a little different (ie not as Rich) than friday night sat/sun etc. The Mozzarella Corozza is awesome. All the entrees are great. Portions are out of this world. If you want to have desert. Order light. You are going to get a lot of food. The wine list is good. They turned me on to Reislings. They have many flavors of Pizza and they use the same great ingredients for the speciality pies as they do for thenl entrees. Top noch Italian food. A bit pricy. Worth it on weekends. read more

been going here for awhile and it def has pretty good food went on Friday night and got the stuffed veal chop special which I have to say I was not impressed with it. Especially after I found out I got charged $40 for it the veal was a bit dry and the breadcrumbs were burnt :( I also got charged about 14$ a piece for there strawberry lemonade which I added a shot of grey goose too even though the place has pretty good food I think 120$ for two people to eat is a bit pricey for what you get :( read more

We waited 30 mins for garlic not . may eggplant rolatini was undercooked and pasta was cold. Just a bad experience. First time there and it was Chicken Special night! $13.95 for a chicken entree with a salad coffee and cheese cake. Complimentary Garlic knots were hot fresh, soft and covered in oil and parm. The salad was fresh and pretty plain with only a few slices of carrots and a tomato wedge. I ordered the creamy Italian dressing which was store bought I'm sure. Out of the twenty different chicken dishes, I ordered the Chicken Putanesca without the capers. The sauce was perfect with crushed tomatos, thin sliced onions, large pieces of garlic and calamata olives. The chicken was thin cut and well cooked. I ordered the Penne on the side with marinara to try a different sauce. The penne came in red water..I think they didn't drain the pasta enough before putting it in a bowl. I would recommend just getting the chicken over the penne, to begin with. Coffee was good, and Cheese Cake was OK with a gritty texture. The atmosphere was one of the best features. The Yankees playoff game was on the TVs the booth seats were comfortable and the tables clean. Clean bathrooms also. My daughter ordered a kids Baked Zitti which was a massive plate the same size as mine full of pasta which had Ricotta too and was a great deal for $8.00, but it didn't come with a drink or a desert. Overall it was a pleasant atmosphere, with good serves, delicious food at a reasonable price for the portion size. read more

This place is amazingly delicious. I would eat here every day if I could! They have a nice varied menu and the food is top-notch, you can find your regular Italian favorites as well as Italian inspired dishes. Everything is huge and delicious, you WILL have leftovers! The atmosphere is romantic and classy, I felt underdressed! The prices are expensive but they do special pasta and chicken nights during the week which are much cheaper. Holy cannoli, this place has great food! My boyfriend hyped it up, so my expectations were pretty high to begin with. Came in around 7:30 on a Saturday night so we expected to wait. They don't take reservations but I think that's only fair - first come, first serve. Waited about 45 mins. Most places give the standard Italian bread/rolls. Mama's gives you garlic knots. And not the oily, overly-garlic kind; they were perfectly seasoned and right out of the oven. Drinks were good - boyfriend had a glass of Cabernet and I got the red Sangria and there was something different about it. Definitely didn't taste like any red Sangria I've had elsewhere. I wonder what the secret ingredient is.... Red sugared rim is a nice touch! I was a tad upset I couldn't sub my house salad for a Caesar, but then I would have missed out on the amazing balsamic house dressing. I even saved the extra to dip the knots in! Entrees came and portions were plenty. I got the stuffed rigatoni with chicken and boyfriend got the rigatoni ala vodka. He cleared his plate and I took the rest home for lunch the next day (I filled up on the knots!). The service was great. Even for a busy Saturday night, our server was friendly and courteous. Went to dinner Saturday night. It was good. There was a wait of about 25 min at 6:15 so we had a drink at the tiny bar at the back. Glass of wine was $9. We went to our table when the buzzer went off. We were two people and sat at a nice large four top. We ordered an appetizer of rice balls with onion gravy on top with melted mozzarella cheese. It was perfect there were 4 of them and we ate them all. The last time we ordered this it was slightly cold in the center. This time it was perfect, and what a flavor. For dinner I ordered the Buffalo chicken salad, without tomatoes and without blue cheese. I asked for the creamy Italian dressing and also the house balsamic, we like to dip the amazing garlic knots into the dressing. My husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs that came with a salad. Luckily he doesn't use all his dressing and I was able to have some with the garlic knots. The waiter never gave me the dressing like I asked. When I received my salad there was so much cheddar cheese that it didn't look like a salad. Underneath all of the cheese there were tomatoes. I picked them out, not the waiters fault as you couldn't even see them. The salad was so huge putting dressing on it to mix it was hard to do without knocking it out of the bowl and onto the table. Next time I'm ordering it with cheese on the side. It was a first time ordering this salad so I didn't know what to expect. The buffalo chicken was amazing and they gave you lots of it. They are in strips so you have to cut it with a fork and knife. I was able to take 75% of it home because the rice balls and garlic knots were so filling. I enjoyed this the next day for lunch. The meatballs and spaghetti was also a great taste and leftovers were eaten the next day for lunch. We each had another glass of wine at the table. When we got the bill we noticed the price for the wine was cheaper at the table? Hmm I'm wondering if the bar tender is making up his own prices at the bar? We found that really strange. We will wait to order at the table from now on. **Monday night Pasta night is my absolute favorite! So many choices and you get a salad and cheesecake for like $12 bucks!
