I can say that I have never had a bad meal at Mama's. It's all country down home cooking. I think I have pretty much had everything on the menu. I am not a big fan of the breakfasts, only because of the bacon, little to crispy. But other than that, I love everything. And I love that they have a drive through window. I have them on speed dial and call to order on the way home and pick it up in the drive thru! They have hardly any turnover in employee's so you know you will always see your fav waitress every time. We live about 6 streets from Mama's and when the weather is nice we can walk there and walk off the calories going home. LOL. They have homemade pies all week long too. The prices are very reasonable. A family could eat there very afford-ably. The do not serve alcohol here. They could probably use some updating, but it's very homey like it is. read more

Driven past this place most every day for over a year without noticing it existed. Good diner food, nice ambiance, very classic Americana feel. Typical homecooking/diner type setup. Tables and booths with all sorts of knick-nacks around, plus various "family related" quotes painted on the walls. The food was alright. IMO, it wasn't worth driving from SW Fort Worth to Irving for, but it was alright. I had a breakfast with the "top sirloin." I was VERY not-impressed with their 1/4" thick cut of whatever cut of meat that REALLY was.. The meat was cooked the way I requested, though, and everything else was good. Otherwise, this would've been two stars.. I thought the hashbrowns were above average. There was something about the texture that seemed like they probably shredded the potatoes on-site. The scrambled eggs were ... meh. Not great. Not bad. The biscuits and gravy were pretty decent, though. If I had gotten ham instead of the "top sirloin," I probably would've had a better opinion of this place. IMO, if you're going to put some sort of STEAK on the menu, make sure a typical hamburger patty from a fast food joint isn't going to be thicker.. If it is, you're setting yourself up to disappoint customers. Would I go back? Yeah, maybe, if I were in the area. I would NOT trek across town again for it, though. :( read more

I have been to the Mamas daughters in Dallas and in Irving and by far the Irving location is the best! The people are so friendly and they actually look like they enjoy what they do even when they're busy! I live in Desoto tx, at least 20 miles away but it is always worth the trip. The food is great the atmosphere is cozy, and the staff is delightful, especially Miss Tina. She was very attentive and sweet and we never had to ask her for a refill she was on it!! read more

As growing up in Irving this was 1 of 3 go to spots for breakfast unfortunately that's not the case anymore my family and I went to eat here yesterday for my sisters bday being that this was the only restaurant in Irving who had blueberry pancakes my family has never been a big fan of this place but I have so I was def excited to go after ordering our food a employee went set food down next to us in a booth and all the employees from food expo server and busser were coming by eating the food and wiping there hands on their pants and going back to handling the food parents were kinda digested by this but overlooked it once our food came out everything was good besides the server shows me my waffle and said they overcooked it and wanted to know if I still wanted or have them remake because if I wanted it remade the employees have already called dibs on my waffle...thinking to myself really but okay any who the waitress takes the waffle sets it at the booth next to us and starts eating the waffle after that it was over my family saying they will never come back hopefully this yelp helps since knowing how great this place can be read more

I hadn't been here for awhile but now I'm working in the area again and stopped for lunch today. It was really disappointing as the food was tasteless and not warm, the bathroom filthy. I didn't eat any of it except the salad and when the waiter wanted to box it up, I told him nicely I didn't want it. On the way out, iI stopped to talk to the manager to let her know I wouldn't be back. She turned around when the hostess told her I was waiting and after 10 minutes, I just left. read more

I've been here several times and have never been disappointed.The food is really good, their portions are huge (I can split one meal into two or three portions for myself) and their prices are just right. I had a really hard time finding the place the first time - i kept driving right past it. It is right next to the braums and right behind the auto place. How has no one reviewed this yet? Maybe there's another listing I didn't see. Mama's Daughters is one of my two favorite South Irving neighborhood place (see Angelo's for the other one). It's homestyle southern cooking, served by a waitstaff who bothers to remember what drink you like, and that I like the cornbread muffins :) The food is a great value. Every day of the week has a special, which lets you choose from a list of dinners (like Chicken Fried Steak, or Meatloaf, or Roast Beed w/ Gravy, or Fried Chicken) -- every day is different -- and add three veggies (or use two choices to get a baked potato). I think that's running $8.50 these days, but call the restaurant and they will fax you a menu. Breakfast is my favorite meal at the diner and something I will often do after church on Sunday (along with a large chunk of the population of South Irving). Eggs, hash browns, sausage patties and biscuits for something like 7 bucks with a drink. The burgers are solid diner fare as well. Can't beat the chili for warming you up on a cold night. Endless (and believe me, I've tested this!) refills on drinks. Don't miss dessert, either - the cobblers and the pies are awesome! Strawberry banana meringue, yum! They close at 3 on the weekends at this location, but are open til 8 on weeknights. Parking can be a little difficult on Sunday afternoons and during the lunch and dinner rush, so if you like to linger over a leisurely meal try to hit it at an off-time. It's hard to fit more than 4 people at most of the tables, but if they're not ridiculously busy there are a few bigger spaces, and they usually don't mind if you move a chair to the end of a booth in the back of the restaurant. Mama Norma and her daughters have fed the people of Dallas at various restaurants since the 50's -- check out the clippings on the wall at this location for a little history lesson. I'm a huge fan of Diners Having spent over half my life on the East coast & travelling extensively for business. This is a chain (albeit a small, family run one) but has a non-chain feel and attention to quality service & flavorful cooked to order food. Daily varied meat & 3 vegetable lunches are excellent & I am very partial to the roast beef lunch. Lean & juicy, very rich gravy is the star. Try it over french fries instead of mashed potatoes. Salads are large, fresh and can be substituted for one side which is unusual here as well as this being one of the rare places I can get my favorite dressing-French- for my salad. Haven't tried breakfast menu yet but it looks good. Cobbler and desserts are OK-nothing spectacular & a lttle on the small side. Very busy at luch time so take a late lunch after 1:00 so you don't have parking and seating issues. read more

Went in for breakfast and ordered the number 2 special with a side of hash browns. Eggs and pancakes were delicious, but the hash browns needed some seasoning. Service was good. I ate lunch here today wnd ordered chicken and dressing, pinto beans, turnip greens, macaroni and cheese. The greens were not bad but everything else was straight out of cans. The macaroni and cheese had fake cheese sauce, the pinto beans were over seasoned, and the chicken was unappetifing to look at. The gravy on the dressing was a bright yellow, and the chicken was straight out of a can. We ordered apple crumb pie and had to hunt for the apples in the gooey filling. I just love this place and try to come every time I'm in town visiting my grandfather. I went for breakfast with my mom and 3 kids today. I had the biscuits with gravy plate and it did not disappoint. Every employee we interacted with was sweet and personable. The kids finished their pancake plates happily. Food is definitely good. They have daily specials so every dish is not available everyday. I've taken to go and dined in. Dine in service was great but last couple of times there were always flys. I pulled into the parking lot and found a space immediately. You don't have to wait to be seated so I took a spot in the least crowded area, the back. My server was very friendly and gave me just enough time to select my order; coffee, french toast and medium side up eggs. The wait for my order was about 3-4 mn; so not bad at all. The food was pretty good, I mean it wasn't anything fancy but still very enjoyable. The only downside was that there were two dirty tables in front of me when I arrived and no one made an attempt to clear them. My server and another lady even sat down to take a break at one of the messy tables and just left it there when they had to return to work. Walked up to pay which was quick and painless enough. I went with a family member to this location based upon a Groupon purchase. I ate at the Dallas location many times in the past because of my workplace and always found their food to be wonderful and the homemade pies great as well. However the Irving location leaves a lot to be desired especially first impressions such as the dirty floors and numerous flies buzzing around when we first arrived. I ordered the meatloaf special with turnip greens mashed potatoes and a tossed salad. Unfortunately the meatloaf had been overcooked and allowed to poach and its own juices leaving the texture very dry and crumbly. The tomato sauce on top was bland and had virtually no salt or seasoning of any kind. The turnip greens were okay and the taco salad was good as well except they needed to remove the excess water from the lettuce. At this point I would have rated them 3 stars and chalked it up as another mediocre home cooking experience. But since I didn't finish all of my very average lunch I decided that I would check and see if they still had excellent homemade pies. This is where the one star rating comes in. I was greatly disappointed but a much reputed home cooking restaurant would serve not only a commercially made pie but an extremely bland and flavorless foodservice Sysco apple pie. I took 2 bites and nothing I ate tasted like Apple so I stuck my fork in the remainder and left it there is a defiant flag of my displeasure. The owners of this group of restaurants obviously pay more attention to the Dallas location then they do the Irving location. If nothing else they need to come and make sure that this restaurant is clean and fly free before they make sure the Food Standards of the Dallas location are enforced at the other locations. read more
