Over easy eggs with 2 Turkey sausage patties, hash browns and whole wheat toast. Staff was friendly but service is a little slow. I got my meal without hashbrowns. My hashbrowns came when out when I was almost done with my meal. Parking is hard during lunch. They also have a pick up window if you want to phone in an order. read more

To be honest the taste and consistency (was like baby food), and that of the store bought canned yams. Mashed potatoes and gravy lacked flavor as well. Mama's is awesome - the people, the service, and the food are great! It's not the fanciest place in town (the seats have a bit of wear and tear), but it's a warm and friendly place. What an amazing hole in the wall diner! Amazing and friendly waitresses and high quality breakfast really makes it worth the drive from wherever you are! I never asked myself where the waitress was, because she was always coming back, refilling our drinks and coffee, which in the morning is always a good thing! Where it can be $7-12$ per person it's well worth the amount of food that you receive. Neither me nor my buddy were even close to finishing our plates. I had got the pancake stack with bacon and sausage and everything was very delicious! I would recommend sharing a plate with someone because the pancakes are Huge!!! The service was amazing! Even after we finished eating our waitress, continued to checkup on us! Not only were the waitresses kind and skilled but the chefs in the kitchen were popping our meals like no business! The chicken fried steak had good seasoning and breading. The turnip greens and baked squash was delicious. The mashed potatoes were standard, no complaints here. I had the roast beef, broccoli and baked potato. The roast was good, the broccoli was cooked to an odd shade of green and mushy. My husband had the chicken fried chicken and mashed potatoes. He said it was all good. He had a dinner salad also, a good portion of the lettuce was brown. For dessert I had the peach cobbler and he had the chocolate pie. The cobbler looked like peach mush. My husband said the pie was good. Another reason for the rating of 3 stars is because this establishment is filthy! The floors and the booth seats are covered in food and trash. Southern comfort food with an extremely attentive and friendly staff. I like how they give you a basket full of yeast rolls and corn muffins while you wait for your food. I made a 30-minute drive to pick up Chicken Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and pinto beans. As I cut into my CFS, all I got was breading. It appeared they thinly sliced a chicken breast and coated it in breading. I know you can not purchase a paper-thin chicken breast at any grocery store or grocer supplier. Was early catching my Megabus in Grand Prairie and needed some food. Is it me or does a lot of places in Grand Prairie look sketch? Luckily this diner was less than 15 minutes from the bus stop. It's s small and cozy diner. They served breakfast all day but I wasn't in the mood. They have really good lunch/dinner specials every day of the week. Each special comes with 3 sides and a basket of rolls and cornbread for about $9. I tried the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, corn, and a green salad. BF had the breaded catfish with fried okra, corn, and mashed potatoes. Our food came out piping hot and everything tasted homemade. Our waitress was so nice and checked on us frequently! I'm a pretty simple guy when it comes to my breakfast...meat, taters, pancakes, biscuits...combination varies from day to day. Denny's can hit them harder on a busy day and Denny's is not great.....as we all know. Second visit :( WORSE. Walking in this time, no greeting to any of the customers including myself. I come to Irving about twice a month and try to grave breakfast there every time. Everything is made from scratch. Some of the best biscuits I have every had. Lunches are equally as good with generous servings and home made rolls just like my Grandma made. There is nothing really fancy about the restaurant and contrary to what a previous person posted, I have always had a clean table and never seen the place look filthy. My sister and I found this place (thanks Yelp!) while searching for a dinner restaurant to eat before a concert at the Verizon theater in Grand Prairie. I got there before my sister, and at 5:30pm this place looked like it was really hoppin'. When I walked in I could see why: it seems that I had arrived during the tail end of an unofficial Senior Citizen hour! It may just be the demographic of the residents in that area, or just the good, home-style meals, but I was definitely the youngest person there by at least 3 decades. The tables and booths are not particularly impressive but they don't have to be: it's definitely a down-homey atmosphere. The pithy mom-type comments stenciled on the walls were hilarious and endearing all at the same time! The wait staff were great: "Sit anywhere ya like," and "What are ya'll drinkin' today?", so friendly and wonderfully southern. Their daily specials offer a lot of choices. I had the turkey & suffing with peas, okra, and pear halves which were delicious (even though the pears were just regular canned pears in syrup, it reminded me of my grandma who always gave us pears with our lunches). My sister had the chicken salad which was about a cup and a half of chicken salad with a HUGE schmorgasboard of freshly sliced fruits (oranges, cantaloupe, strawberries, and grapes) on the side. Our meals came with their rolls and cornbread, hot out of the oven. Everything tasted fresh and home-made, better than the processed stuff from Cracker Barrel and similar bigger chains. Very friendly waitstaff, diner food, lots of regulars but noobs are treated like regulars too. Seat yourself at any of the window and aisle booths, your waiter/ess magically appears with menus and asks for your drink order. If you are a fan of iced-tea, these folks make it with tea bags the old-fashioned way, tasty (sweet or unsweet). Food is good: not great, not bad, good basic diner food. There are specials every day of the week and breakfast is served all day. The Bacon/Cheese Omelette is huge, served with a biscuit, and is tasty. I had the grilled catfish special with Collard Greens, blck-eyed peas and a side salad (which is not just wet lettuce). Good stuff, no sign of grease. Line cooks here truly get it. To get to this location, go down Storey Road from 183 until you get to this street, it's on the south-west corner. Leave room for pie. read more

Mama's Daughters is a great breakfast option for anyone living in Irving, going to the airport, or wanting an early breakfast to kick off the day. At 6AM, there are not too many quality joints open. I guess you could always resort to IHOP. The menu is fairly large, but there are things that can narrow your search. I always shoot for either the most unique items or the standard, but hand-crafted items that can make or break a place. I try to avoid toast, scrambled eggs, and sausage patties. If you cannot produce mediocre scrambled eggs, you are in trouble. I went with an option that is not offered at every morning eatery: chicken fried steak. I also tried the biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and home fries. The biscuit was by far one of the best that I have had. It was soft, buttery, and tender. The meat gravy was also a nice touch. The pancakes were pretty ordinary, a tad dense, which is not my personal preference. The home fries were solid because they had a little twist. They were crisp, but they were also complimented with peppers and onions. My order was slightly lukewarm, so that was a disappointment. Also, the coffee was not piping hot. Now...the chicken fried steak. Yikes! This American classic was really bad, period. The meat was tough and chewy... but the crust was horrendous. It slipped right off of the meat and was oily and slightly soggy. I only found about one or two bites of crisp batter...which was not attached to my CFS. This eatery is certainly a place to check out because if you really enjoy it, it can easily turn into your local diner. I will have to reevaulate their other grub because I am not a traditional breakfast eater. I did think that they gave a solid breakfast showing for a freakishly early opening time. read more
