This place is all the rave when it comes to ordering empanadas quick and easy. My friends and I went here a few times as well as the branch near Queens Center Mall for their Italian sausage, pepperoni and cheese, ground beef, cheese, ham and cheese, and a whole lot of others. The maize empanadas are really delicious and crispy especially. The green sauce is the best, but still try them all if you're a first-timer. The extra sauces are 50 cents each, which is unlike how it was before. They've only accepted cash when I went there about a month ago, so be sure to have enough. Also, count your change because they do have a tendency to make mistakes, and you'll be walking away short of a dollar or two and a few cents. It has happened to me before. Empanadas deliciosos! So far I have only tried beef and chicken. Both are fantastic. If you have two or three they can be a whole meal. I haven't been back to Jackson Heights in awhile, there is another Mama's across from the mall. I plan to expand my palette and try some of the other varieties. I had no idea they had cocktail size(now I know what else im going to be serving at parties now) they have a huge selection of empanadas to try! This place is great. I love the Latin beats blasting and the authentic colombiano decor on the walls. Just know there are two locations, both within a block of each other, both open 24/7. One is a take out spot with no chairs or tables and one has chairs and tables where you can bring friends and sit down. The "original" (since 1978!!!!) has the chairs and tables and also a bathroom. However, both have the same amazing empanadas. It's hard for me to even pick a favorite. You really can't go wrong no matter which one out of the dozens and dozens you get. It's my new favorite spot, especially bc you can come anytime of day or night and the price is $1.00 to $1.75 each. They even have a breakfast menu. I'll be coming back :-) read more

I just moved to the neighborhood and could not help but notice there are TWO Mama's Empanadas a stone throw away from one another on the same side of the street on Northern Blvd. I ordered 2 beef & potato empanadas and a mozzarepa. It was addictively good. A little greasy. I really didn't care for the lack of cleanliness on the tables - the counters were not cleaned at all. I will pickup and eat at home next time. It was just a late night and me and my home girl was craving some mamas empanadas.. so we went. I asked to split the bag and to have an extra sauce. So we both could have two sauces for our three empanadas each! She said "it's one sauce per two empanadas" I said okay so ... "how many sauces if you getting three" she said two. I said okay can I have an extra sauce. As if I was begging for some more sauce! Any ways she made us pay for an extra sauce and said you would've gotten two each if you ordered separately. I don't know how this place has such high reviews. I went here 2 days ago and ordered 2 beef empanadas (fried) and 1 cheeseburger empanada. The beef empanadas were soooooo oily it was gross! The cheeseburger one I bit into and the cheese was not even melted and it tasted nasty. Also, there were parts of both of the beef empanadas that were cold and not cooked all the way through! I usually go to another empanada spot, but was brought here last night, and this morning before going to work I decided to pick some up for the boys at work. Not a bad place at all, atmosphere is pretty good you get the Spanish music in the background and a futbol game on the tv. I opted for the cheese, and the regular carne one, the cheese one was amazing, just be careful when biting into it as the oil will shoot out while taking a bite. All and all I recommend the cheese and the Hawaiian empanadas with wheat/flour empanada shell. You definitely won't be disappointed read more

This is cheaper than Empanada Mama's in midtown. Yet still as good. $1.75, empanadas VS. $3.00 empanadas. Mama's empanadas will always win based on price.. I wish they had better appetizers. I love the IDEA of this place. TONS of empanada flavors, which, in theory, is a really good idea. However, some of these flavors are just gross. I haven't had all of them, so I can only judge what I know. The flavors that I do like are the typical beef, chicken and rice and bean empanadas are all really good. I prefer corn shells which I can be pretty picky about, and their corn shells are fabulous. I would give another star. However, the last time I was here I ordered 3 empanadas. As I was waiting, the place started to get PACKED, which is usual and I understand the wait. I waited 20 minutes and then asked where my order was, I received a nasty attitude and was told to wait. So, I wait another 20 minutes. I normally wouldn't do this, but I really wanted the empanadas. So then I ask again, and the girl looks shocked that I've been waiting 40 minutes, and tells me she gave my order away by accident and tells me to wait another 15 minutes. A HALF AN HOUR GOES BY and I am still asking where my order is. Probably another 15 minutes later, and I get my three empanadas. They charge you for extra hot sauce, which is really awesome hot sauce (homemade) so I always get extra. I had forgotten to ask when I paid, so I asked them since I waited about an hour and a half for my food, if I could just have a few extra hot sauces and they FREAKIN CHARGED ME FOR THEM. So, I would only go here again for regular beef empanadas and their hot sauce. This is also a good place for some middle of the night getting home from drinking food. Came here based on yelp reviews. The empanadas were good. I had the beef, chicken, broccoli & cheese and caramel & cheese. The caramel and cheese was surprisingly good but it was really sweet. So, that was my least favorite. However, I'm giving them 3 stars because of the wait and staff. It took over 20 minutes to get my order and I was not the only one complaining about the wait. It took even longer to get my order because the kitchen forgot my order. When inquiring about the status of the order, the staff were not friendly in dealing with it.
