Choice of between baked and fried cooking style. Sauce is being offered for free as many as you want. Their green sauce was such a delight . It reminded me of the sauce included to my fave Peruvian chicken . It was a busy night but the service was very impressive, in an orderly and fashionable manner. Got the bite in less than 12 minutes of wait. For a payout of less than $4 , I got a descent and fast meal. An average of 2 empanadas will fill you in. I got the chicken which matches so good with the green sauce and the Regaetton ( which has rice, meat and veggie inside). The place is small for a stay-in meal, a counter by the wall and high chairs are what you have just to sit in, but who cares, the after bite is more important. Worth staying. I wish Mama's Empanadas was a lot closer to me because they are delicious!! There are two types of empanadas: corn and wheat. The wheat ones are much better in my opinion. The corn has a better crunch, but it's thick and takes away from the flavors inside. I ordered the cheese and chicken empanadas in corn (they really fill 'em up too, love that!) and I also ordered the cheeseburger and mamis wheat empanadas. Love this place !! There's always you go to Colombian beef empanadas or even chicken but here there's sooo many options. My only complaint is the corn dough could be a bit thick for my liking. However the fillings are tasty and you can be adventurous. The sauces are good and you get a few to try from. Flour, corn, baked, fried. All yesss! Empanada Mama here and there over the past few years because its closer to things in hells kitchen and I guess I've been to the Astoria location for this same business. But MAN. The prices here cannot be beat. Their most expensive empanada for perspective is $2.70 and that's the one with seafood in it. Most are priced around $1.50-1.80. Arepas are like $5. Less than half the price of that Manhattan restaurant with a similar name. Glory. You can eat like a king for less than $10 guaranteed. On this particular visit we took ours to go to the park nearby. I went with the hawaiian, cuban, and mac and cheese. All of them were great. Like the hawaiian was melt in your mouth sweet and savory. I know I'm sick. I like pineapple on pizza so you knew this was coming eventually in life for me. There are even desert empanadas and breakfast empandas that i presently want to try right now and it's only ten in the morning. Don't forget the sauces: Pink, green, and red. I personally think all of them are great. The pink is sweet and goes well on everything, green has a kick of cilantro and some heat, red - kind of like a salsa but with some more interesting flavors. Not just with this location but with all of them (I've been to each location in Queens, TRUST, lol). I love how consistent this local chain is and how they clearly exhibit pride in their product and in their locations - they're all clean, brightly lit and pretty transparent (with the one by the Queens Center Mall being the " little hole in the wall" one as it's definitely an older spot and only offers standing room - but the quality (and authenticity!) is still there! Mama's not only offer's 50+ varieties of empanadas (fried or baked TO ORDER with either a maiz (corn) or trigo (wheat) wrapping or a bread-like baked alternative that caters more towards the calorie contentious and/or non-native consumer) and several other Colombian dishes such as grilled chicken/steak/pernil (pork) platters with rice, potatoes or vegetables, salchipapa (cut up pieces of hot dog with french fries...yes go ahead and laugh, but this reminds me of my childhood coming to mama's. CASH ONLY they do not take credit cards. I love how I can eat here for less then $6 bucks. Plus with empanadas you can grab and go if you need to and enjoy it on the road free of potential headaches. As I also said above, all food is made to order so yes, it may take some time - but it'll be absolutely worth it. Employees here are knowledgeable about what they sell and bilingual. This review gets 3 stars off the strength of the counter staff. I love this place and the quality of the food. I called to place an order for pickup. (Granted, it's the day before thanksgiving, I know it's busy) When I called to place the order, she immediately put me on hold. I was already driving to the location, and I timed my call at 9 minutes on hold. During this time, she was still answering the phone, AND taking orders from the people already there. I hung up and called back and again she immediately put me on hold. I waited another 8 minutes on hold and when she picked up I said wow, 17 minutes later... I'm already almost at the location. Instead of apologizing, (which I would've appreciated!!!! I worked at a restaurant before) she said well the customers that walk in need to be taken care of first. My immediate reaction was, "How is that acceptable to people calling in to try and place orders?" She said, "Well it's busy and I had other orders to take." A friend of mine introduced me to this place and yall, this is definitely an ULTIMATE empanada shop that I think I've been to by far. The selections were insane and I admit I got overwhelmed when I first walk in the store, readin every word and trying to figure out what I want. The insides are tastier than Papa's empanada's in my opinion but Papa's dough is softer and better. They are almost identical to Mexican empanada's but the Mexican empanada's I have had are softer. If I had to choose one empanada place over the other I would choose Mama's because of the insides but they are still pretty close. A part of the taste of the empanada's are the dough so I have to say they fell short in terms of the actual dough. 3 stars because of the hard dough. I have been a semi regular customer at this location, but after attempting to place an order over the phone for pickup, the lady over the phone rudely told me to hurry up, because she had a line. I promptly hung up on her and will never order from there again. We also got the spicy (red?), green, and pink sauces, and they were so, so good. They gave us more than enough sauce for all 11 empanadas we got without any extra charge. The empanadas were crispy and the fillings were perfectly seasoned, with the cheese and whatever else in there perfectly proportioned. The mozzarepa was great, a perfect mix of fresh mozzarella and sweetness from the corn cakes. It was a little more burned on the bottom than I would have liked, but I didn't mind and devoured the whole thing. We regretted not getting more, to be honest, to leave in the fridge and heat up for lunch during the workday. For lack of a better word the service is trash. They automatically put you on hold for five to ten minutes before you even say "Hi I'm calling for a delivery."
