Dara was server, let problems begin!! Brush up on your Spanish! She recommended a combo vuelva la vida appetizer, great idea! For main dish, I ordered the garlic/butter octopus, shrimp combo with EXTRA garlic. Food arrives n BAM no extra garlic, it looked like no garlic instead. She never asked how my food was, I had to wave down another server for drink refill. When Dara asked how I liked my meal, I told her there was no garlic, ajo. She literally smiled n walked away.....???!! According to what I saw, she had a total of 3 tables, mine included. I was approached by Dani, lead server?! She was going around asking tables how everything was. When she approached mine, I stated to her I requested extra garlic n didn't receive any. She immediately took care of it. I asked for an extra roll as well. Better some time than no time I presume. Get a load of this, I guess this restaurant needs the money, I was charged .35 cents for the roll. Instead of quality customer service n saying something to the effect of: we apologize about the garlic you didn't receive, the roll will be complimentary. Anywho, food was lip smacking yum yum, portions aren't huge just almost right. Atmosphere was almost like an open space market with seafood counter displaying a handsome bounty. I had never tried this place til now and the food was pretty good. The breading of the fish and shrimp is lightly breaded but it's the perfect amount. The stuffed crab was cooked perfect and the taste was great. I ordered the mambo combo and I heavily suggest it. read more

I've passed this place several times and thought it might be expensive but after looking at the online menu I realized it's very affordable. My favorite was the shrimp mambo rice. The fish was fresh and the kids loved the popcorn shrimp. You can also order fresh fish and have them cook it or take it home to cook. Update May 2016: on my second trip I was even more impressed with everything we ordered. Also the service is excellent. I am weary about giving a 5 star review the first time as the 2nd time might not be consistent. But no! This place is amazing. Super affordable and the kids love it. My recommendations: 1. Interesting place. Some fresh fish options displayed in a case as you walk in. We had the Mambo Combo with two pieces of fish and six fried shrimp. The shrimp were on the smallish side and were over cooked. The fish however was cooked perfectly, with a crisp crust and light flaky inside. I was disappointed by the side of gumbo though. Not terribly flavorful and no spice. I had to ask the waitress if it was soup or gumbo as I didn't see the usual mound of white rice poking its head up out of the bowl. read more

Mambo is taking great care in their Covid-19 precautions. Tables spaced adequately, everyone required to have masks, and hand sa itizer readily available. The food was AMAZING. I had the combo cocktail I couldn't pronounce and it was one of the best things I've ever eaten! My fish was light, flaky, melt in your mouth delicious. Stuffed crab, AMAZING. The fries were battered and fried too, so good. I almost gave 4 stars because my server got one of my sides wrong, but they went over the top to fix it. Great casual seafood at a reasonable price. Their specialty is the Mambo's rice which is awesome. A good selection of fish. The only problem I have is the conditions of the restrooms. This is one of the best seafood restaurant in town. I eat at this place at least once a week, often more than once. The prices are very reasonable. The seafood is fresh. And the service is excellent. Came here for lunch during the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival and was not disappointed! The Mambo rice with shrimp was amazing as were the grilled shrimp I had! My only complaint is the lack of salad dressings for the salad. Everyone else in my group also enjoyed the food very much. read more

I ordered the Z-Style Red Snapper with Mambo Rice and grilled vegetables. My husband's shrimp was barely warm, but my (a bit over-done) snapper was warm & tasty. They serve you a mountain of rice, but very little bits of shrimp to be found in it. My grilled vegetables & husband's salad were all just "OK". All this for $40.00 with water for drinks & no dessert. This was our 1st trip there and we won't be back for 2nd time. After being to many Mambo restaurants i Can guarantee the mcallen location is my favorite ti be dining in. I had top tier service thanks to the excellent teamwork that is seen within the place, this beginning as soon as you walk in with the hostess, servers and the Managers. The cooks do an amazing job with the quality of the food, and i really would have to thank the managers that keep up with most customers to make sure we are highly satisfied with our whole experience. I have ate at a lot of Mambos restaurants, especially in Houston. I love Mambo because their fried rice and Vuelve a la Vida Ranchero... This is the the third time I eat here in Mambo's in Mission. I have return in hopes that their food will be as tasty as Mambo's in Houston. Today I walked away from this place. Their rice is cold and uncooked, the worst I have ever had. Their service is bad. Had an excellent dinner here last week. The server did a great job recommending a dish to my taste. I asked for extra spicy, and the Mambo a la Diablo shrimp was awesome. Loved the mango margarita too. My glass came generously coated with a spicy red powder, which I very much appreciated. Liked the meal so much that I took home a mixed chicken-pork-shrimp rice with habanero for breakfast and lunch the next day. That hit the spot too! So much better than my free hotel breakfast. Service was ok. But food not good I had a burger and fries didn't really like it. I ate half and threw it out. I couldn't believe they also refuse to make grill onions. We also had some shrimp plate which was so so. And a piece of bread came with it. The bread was hard and it was nasty that we literally took a bite and almost threw up. I'm updating my review as I returned to have the bacon wrapped shrimp (bacon, cheese, jalapeño, and shrimp) and it was delicious and filling. Served with fried rice, it was improved upon with more shrimp, green onion, and cooked white onion than before, thus increasing the flavor. With choice of salad or fries, the fries were crispy and golden, not bad for frozen (I'll take them over McDonald's or Whataburger's fries). The service was excellent again, so I'm awarding three stars based on this dish. I shall return. read more
