If you find yourself cruising down Foster and land at Foster Food Carts right around what I'm…read morecalling "Hillbilly Junction" near 52nd you'll know pretty quick you've stepped into one of Portland's more... character-rich corners. And I say that with love, because if there's one thing Portland does better than anyone, it's making room for everybody. Truly whatever your vibe, your look, or your life story, you'll fit in just fine here. Now, the setup itself? Solid. You've got a thoughtful little covered kids' area so the young ones can burn off some energy, some cool artwork painted right into the ground, and a lineup of food carts spread across the blacktop like a greatest hits album of quick eats. There's multiple covered sections, plus a stage that hints at some lively nights. It leans outdoorsy, but still gives you enough cover to dodge the rain which, let's be honest, is a survival feature in this town. And when those string lights kick on at night? You can tell this place has potential to glow. It's got that laid-back, hangout energy where you could post up with some food, maybe a drink, and just soak it all in. Not polished, not fancy just real. Location-wise, it sits on a funky three-way corner that somehow works in its favor. That said, it's a bit of a trek off the freeway. Unless you're already in the Foster area, you're probably not making a special trip but if you are nearby, it's a convenient and worthwhile stop. I rolled in after a caffeine boost from Dutch Bros Coffee (because priorities), and it fit the bill just right. Overall, I'm landing this one at a respectable three stars. It's clean, the service is friendly, and it does what it's supposed to do. It may not be the crown jewel of Portland's food cart scene, but it's got heart, a little grit, and just enough charm to keep it interesting.

I parked in my usual spot in the neighborhood and checked out the latest offerings. The only cart I recognized was the egg cart. I was tempted but also wanted to try something new. There is plenty of seating spread out and I loved that. They still serve beer and it's inside a tented area with additional seating. I felt at ease and not claustrophobic like some other pods that have opened recently. The food we had and the service delivered was stellar. I loved what I had and I cannot wait to return, cheers!

Nothing against those two, but this place is where to go for a scrumptious, filling, reasonably prices and authentic Brazilian meal, served by a charming chef who is fluent in English, Spanish and her native Portuguese. This is deep soul food, with some ingredients that look familiar -- black beans, collard greens -- yet taste different from the more common US preparations. Try the feijoada or the veggie plate or, for something very different, the moqueca. The flavors are all interesting but quite mild, although there is hot sauce available on request. It's part of a pod with other interesting-looking carts, including other South American cuisines, and a terrific beverage cart.

In my limited experience w/ Brazilian food, the flavors seem mild and comforting, not too spicy, a lot of beans/rice, meat & plantains. We tried the Tropiero which was like a breakfast bean&rice scramble w/ eggs & sausage and Coxhinha which were like arancini stuffed w/ shredded chicken, almost like samosas but with different breading. Both were delicious. The cart is located in a pod off Belmont, and they have a little tent w/ inside seating and heaters.
