We came on a Sunday evening as a walk in and we were seated promptly. Our server was great! Friendly, funny, and doing his best to juggle multiple tables with grace. We ordered a few different cocktails, which were all good and delivered on all the flavor profiles in their descriptions. They offered complimentary bread with olive oil, delicious. We ordered the Tuna crudo and pork belly for appetizers. Both were delicious and I could have ordered a second helping had I not wanted to save room for my entree and dessert. I ordered the squid ink linguine with crab and the tiramisu for dessert. I finished both plates with ease despite a full belly. We will definitely come again to try their pizzas which smelled divine.

We stopped by and managed to snag a table at the pizza bar since there weren't any other seats available. First off, the restaurant is super trendy and really nice. Our waitress was amazing, and the food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend starting with their version of an Old Fashioned. It's got chocolate overtones, which is a cool twist on the classic Old Fashioned. We started with the Caesar Salad and their Margarita Pizza as an appetizer. The pizza bar wraps around their incredible pizza oven, and it's fun to watch them make all sorts of delicious pizzas from their huge selection of toppings. For our entree, we shared the Pork Milanese. That plate was incredible! They also have a Squid Ink linguine with mussels that's supposed to be really tasty...I'll definitely be trying that when I come back! Bon appétit!

Impeccable service, solid food. You will need a reservation to get a table so plan accordingly! Stands out are the Caesar salad and oxtail pasta.

They have outdoor dining however dogs are not allowed. We sat inside and our server was a sweetheart. I can't remember her name. I do remember she had some tattoos on her hands. She gave us recommendations and really took care of us through out our meal. The food was very good and they gave us complimentary gelato on the way out!

We had a wonderful dinner at Mamma Luca, so glad we found it while visiting Portsmouth! I understand they are still new and it seems like they have gotten a great start! Service was fantastic and our server was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu, and we were able to make modifications easily to our dishes. A bit loud inside but the interior was beautiful and well-decorated with plenty of tables including bar seating. Love the pizza/slice counter for a to-go slice takeout option, and the complimentary gelato was lovely. All of our food was incredible, wish we could have tried the rest of the menu. Highly recommend!

    Amazing Negroni

Very friendly and informative staff. If you haven't tried a Negroni, you'll definitely figure out what type is for you at Mama Luca.

My SO went to the restroom and the bartender asked me if we were celebrating anything and I told her it was our 7 year anniversary, she mentioned bringing something out for us, unexpected but appreciated. Meatball appetizer along with an appetizer size portion of a pasta dish, and the smoked duck small plate. All very good. From there it went downhill. Neither bartender checked in for about 30 minutes while we waited for our main course. Espresso rubbed duck was very flavorful and delicious. After the main nothing was brought out, so at that point I was a little frustrated so we went on our way. Food was great, service started good but then disappeared. Definitely would not return for an occasion.

From the moment you walk into the historic, brick-walled dining room, you feel like you've been transported to a cozy grotto in Italy. The atmosphere is intimate and upscale, but still incredibly welcoming. Now, for the food: The Carbonara was absolutely authentic--perfectly creamy with just the right bite from the guanciale and sharp Pecorino. It's hard to find a carbonara this well-balanced outside of Rome. I also had the Filet, which was cooked to a flawless medium and was incredibly tender. You can tell they use top-tier cuts of meat. I finished the night with the Peach Sorbet, and it was the perfect refreshing end to the meal. It tasted like biting into a ripe, fresh peach--light, vibrant, and not overly sweet. The service was impeccable throughout the night. If you're looking for a spot for a special occasion or just want a truly world-class Italian meal, this is it. I'll definitely be back!"

Somehow the room felt nicer, cleaner and brighter. We dined with friends and started with cocktails which were very good. Our waiter brought out complimentary bread and oil, which we all enjoyed, and was replenished during our meal. The small Caesar salad was generous and easily enough for two. The meatball appetizer was also quite big, with 3 delicious meatballs and several pieces of garlic toast. We shared a Lasagna entree which was very good, and was more than enough for two people. In fact, we could not finish and brought home a small portion which I enjoyed for lunch. The menu offers both classic comfort Italian dishes, as well as pizza and more modern Italian fare. Our friends were pleased with Chicken Parm, again more than they could eat. We all felt prices were fair and reasonable given food prices these days. Further, unlike a few other spots in town, no unpleasant surprise surcharge for using a credit card. We were too fill to try dessert, but I expect they will be as good as those offered at other Buckley restaurants. I think Michael Buckley has done a great job reinvigorating this long standing Portsmouth restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation, the place was packed and with good reason.

New ownership recently took over and updated the interior and the menu. Here's what we ordered: Meatball appetizer- Excellent, would definitely order again. Also came with a complimentary basket of house focaccia which was exceptionally good! For mains- The house lasagna al la bolongese--solid and of a generous portion, and, two of us shared a special of Cacio e Pepe pasta with steak tips, which was really good. For dessert we all dug into warm brownie with ice cream which was 100% We all hope to return to the Rosa, there are also several wonderful shops along the street walkable from the Rosa.

That said, both the pappardelle and the ravioli were a bit heavy on the sauce. While the sauces were delicious, they slightly overwhelmed the pasta and distracted from the delicate flavors of the lobster. The standout entrée was the braised short rib. It was incredibly tender and packed with rich, savory flavor. The drinks were excellent, and dessert was the perfect finish. The pistachio cheesecake was absolutely outstanding. Added note: I ordered the Caesar salad...I was asked if I wanted anchovies. I did, the server said nothing about an additional charge for the anchovies and I didn't look on the bill. If they do charge for anchovies knock one star off this review. One other reviewer claimed they charged extra for anchovies. A traditional Caesar comes with anchovies! I know our last experience was great so I was expecting the same. To our suprise it was not. First it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon so we sat on their patio to just have a drink and a snack. Our server Delia came over to see what we wanted to order. We both started off with a water and I had their Paloma and my husband had a beer. It seemed like it was forever for our drinks to arrive. When she finally brought them over, she said the bartender had to go downstairs and get something so that was the reason for our wait. It would've been nice for her to let us know this. We also ordered their Mozzarella app which was fried and came with a pesto sauce. It was good but wish it had a bit more sauce on it or even a side of marinara. She also brought the check when we weren't even finished or asked for it, which was a bit disappointing since we probably would've ordered another drink, but to us that was a sign of "let's go." I don't know what has changed with this place because it used to be better. It also wasn't crowded so I expected the service to be much better than what it was. Maybe next time, Toscana!

However, I did not like the Fig Pizza at all. I am a sucked for unique pizza flavors, and love a dash of something sweet (Hawaiian Pizza or a Hot Honey pizza are my favorites!). This Fig Pizza was SO SWEET. There was so much jam on it that it was sweeter than candy! My brother-in-law and mother-in-law could not eat it. I think this would have been much better with fresh figs, or just a dash of jam here and there. We barely touched the fig pizza as I seemed to be the only one who could get through it.
