Took my ex here for lunch one day when he was having trouble finding something he could eat. Thankfully our server Crystal, as the usual Godsend she is, knew exactly where he was coming from and had seen several others we knew in oral pain, so she advised him what foods would work for him to eat and not hurt further. Went there again to enjoy the Alabama playoff game at the bar with some friends. Love this place. My server on Saturday during the game was incredible! Never once waited on a refill or a few drinks. We don't go to Cookeville very often but when we do, Mama Rosa's is typically on the list of must have restaurants before we head out! The pizza is awesome, but the Italian dishes are to die for! If you can't make up your mind they offer are taster dish with a sampling of their signature pastas, including lasagna that is some of the best you'll ever have!!! I would like to see a few more craft beer selections and the tiramisu should be available more often! But other than those two criticisms, this place is excellent. Lastly, of course I have to comment on the service. That is why you eat out, right?! I cannot say enough about this food. I couldn't even snap a picture before I started eating. The eggplant. Parmesan was a perfect ratio of eggplant and breading.. My husband had the baked Italian sausage and meatball dish with ziti pasta. The meatball were superb and classic Italian. The marinara sauce is light and fresh and not too salty adding Parmesan cheese gave it the perfect bite. The pizza has the perfect glutenous pull that you're looking for when you have a good slice of pizza. Being a recent transplant from California I've been been searching high and low for good food in Tennessee and this by far has surpassed any restaurant that I have tried as far as quality and taste of food. People said Mamma Rosas used to be good, but it is now a train wreck! The last time I went there was in November of 2023, where we went there for my Gram's B-day. I ordered a Stromboli and it was just okay when I ate it, but the rest is just embarrassing, the bruschetta was a complete disaster where it tastes like crap, the pizza's taste was all over the place, and after a couple days in the fridge, the Stromboli tasted like crap! I have eaten here twice. The first time was about a year ago. I had the eggplant parmesan and it was really good. My husband had the lasagne and he was happy too. Recently we went again with a bigger group (9 people) and I wasn't impressed with the food. I got a stromboli with spinach and cheese. It was 100 percent flavorless. The sauce on the side was just ok. I had to add salt and some red pepper flakes to give it some zing. The whole plate was just bland and the cheese wasn't really melty. It was a bit hard "ish". So three stars: 1. For the yummy eggplant parmesan. 2. For the lovely staff who are very sweet and helpful. 3. Great place to go with a large group. -1. For the bland food the 2nd time. -1. For the volume. I couldn't talk to anyone except the person immediately next to me because the volume in the restaurant was LOUD. I would definitely go again but I would order the eggplant again and keep my fingers crossed. I'd also suggest it for a large boisterous group. Also, I left a 30% tip because I am not heartless and our server worked her tail off and it's a crime that servers are only paid like $2.35 (or something like that) an hour here in Cookeville TN. read more
