I went to Dr. Detar for a second opinion on whether or not an infected root canal could be saved. I had previously scheduled a surgery with another endodontist who went on vacation after he told me the one root was never filled all the way (which means it was leaking toxic bacteria into my body via the dentin tubules for 25 years). Since I thought it is probably not a good idea to have an infection in my mouth for another 3 weeks I went to see Dr. Detar for a second opinion. He said he really needed to see the cone beam image to know for sure (he could only see the regular xray) but we couldn't get the cd to work in his office. He spent a lot of time with me anyway listening to me and addressing all my questions and was not rushed and hurried like most doctors are these days. After my endodontist returned from vacation I asked him to look at the cone beam which he had not reviewed in our prior appointment and he then cancelled the appointment for surgery since he said I didn't trust him. Meanwhile I was able to download software so I could get my cone beam image to come up on my laptop, so I scheduled another appointment with Dr. Detar to review. He said he could see a hairline crack in the tooth that was not visible on the regular xray so therefore the tooth cannot be saved. I also told him that I read that root canals always leak toxic bacteria into the body via the dentin tubules since the gutta percha used to fill the canal always shrinks, and he said yes this is correct, that it is whether or not your body has a good immune system to deal with this bacteria will determine if this is will be a problem for you. Wow what honesty!!! Utmost respect to this man! I scheduled an appointment with a maxofacial surgeon to have the tooth removed, and he even asked that this doctor call him prior to the surgery to discuss the details. After the surgery I had some concerns and Dr. Detar spoke to me on the phone a couple times providing guidance since this was now during Covid and everyone was quarantining and not doing in person appointments unless it was an emergency. He did not charge me for these and did not rush me off the phone. So to sum it up, Dr. Detar is everything you could want in an endodontist, friendly, honest, skilled, patient, reliable, and compassionate. For the first time in years, I can eat, sleep, and live my life without being in near-constant pain. As a borderline dentophobe, I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to have another root canal, but it's comforting to know that should I need it, there are such capable and caring people I can rely on. Dr. Batra was gentle, knowledgeable without being dismissive or condescending (anyone who's ever dealt with Dr. Mean Dentist knows exactly what I'm taking about), answered my questions, took the time to explain what was going on, and cared about my comfort and wellbeing every step of the way. She's an absolute angel and I'm extremely grateful for her expertise. I was almost certain I'd have a panic attack the second I spotted the chair and all the instruments (I really did NOT want to be there; I even had to bring my husband to the first appointment to sit out in the car and make sure I didn't flee), but Yessica was very attentive. She just exudes calm. I wasn't ever kept waiting or left alone to sit with my anxious thoughts. Whether or not I like and trust any medical professional breaks down to roughly 49% doctor and 51% support staff, and Manassas Endo's support staff are truly stellar. Setting appointments, filling out paperwork, figuring out insurance, paying the bill, aftercare instructions - they made it all so easy. They were attentive and kind, and I very much appreciated how Covid-conscious everyone was (to the extent that a dental office can be). They made me feel way more comfortable with the entire experience than I would have ever thought possible. I'm not in dental pain anymore. I really cannot stress that enough. It's so cool. So, if there's ANY time I need to get a needle in my mouth, I want it done by this guy! Dr. Detar was amazing!!!!!! I have dentists in the family, so I'm no stranger to dental work by any means. They referred me to him because I needed a specialist, and I trusted the nice things they told me about their practice. Dr. Detar was so considerate that I was in pain, and they got me in as soon as they could, and they were so great! They kept checking on me to make sure I was ok, and the doctor even called me himself a few days after the procedure to check on me! So nice. I was a little sore after both sessions which was to be expected, but haven't had any pain otherwise! He did great work. She called me asking if I could find an Endodontist in the area, so I called around and reached Manassas Endodontics, who was able to make her an appointment for the next morning. She came home saying the service she had received at Manassas Endodontics was excellent! This was my first visit here and everyone made me feel so welcome! From check in to check out every step was explained to me and they constantly asked me if i was comfortable and made sure to listen to my concerns and answered all my questions.Dr. Detar was great at calming my nerves and making sure i wasn't in any pain during my root canal. Mary Jo is such an attentive caring person she kept me great company while being numbed and scanned for my x-rays. The office as a whole was very clean and they were following ALL protocols for COVID-19 from cleaning hands, social distancing, and temp checks. I had a root canal done in February 2024 by Dr. Batra. It was a two step process. She is highly skilled, extremely professional, and the office staff is courteous and respectful. It became clear to me quickly that their patient care and reputation is paramount and strive hard to create an optimal experience all around for the patient.
