Find someone else!! This company is owned and run by a person who NEVER returns calls, doesn't know how to use email, and never follows through on communicating with customers. I bought a 20KW Kohler standby generator through this company. Bottom line up front, the generator is awesome and I would recommend that brand to anyone. But the road to getting it installed was long and painful and Manchester Electric was the reason for all of that. They ordered a generator that was plumbed for Natural Gas, in spite of me telling them and SHOWING THEM that I was using propane. When they installed the generator, the tech crossed some wiring and it wouldn't work right when they tested it. They figured that out after a couple of hours of head-scratching, got the wiring right, and then discovered the fuel mismatch. The tech told me it would take "a day or two" to get the conversion kit from Kohler, and that he would call me when he had it and we'd set up a date and time to come back to install it. I hounded them for three weeks after that, and then finally one day when I called to check, they told me they had come out to the house the day before and installed it - they never informed me they were coming. They left ZERO documentation on how to operate the generator, they never "commissioned" it with me to show me that it was running properly, and the owner and his techs never returned my calls. The secretary's standard response to my emails was "I printed this out for Dan" (the owner I think). And "I'll let you know when he responds." And she'd never call back, because he apparently ignores her, too. So the owner doesn't do email... what kind of business person in 2023 doesn't do email! In the end accounting, it took 3-1/2 MONTHS (20 Jul through 04 Nov) from the time I accepted the proposal to the time I considered the job complete, and easily 80% of that time was directly due to Manchester Electric's complete lack of follow-through and disinterest in a job well done. They also don't take credit cards... well, they do, but they tack on a 4% surcharge. So they're old school on that front too - I wrote checks. As I said, the generator itself is beyond excellent, but the company provided one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had, and at 66 years of age that's saying something. I have a generator for my house. It started having a problem with the start relay (apparently). I had Manchester Electric come over (not my usual people). First guy misdiagnosed issue; took 3 weeks and LOTS of pestering, to get anyone to come back and fix the supposed problem. When the owner of the company, who he told me he was, came to replace the switch, not only was my generator not fixed it was worse. The gentleman went outside and found that my generator itself needed a firmware update. That was all that was needed. A part was not needed, no waiting three weeks for them to come back, nothing but upgraded firmware. The gentleman then said I'm not going to take the switch out, it only cost $2.95, it's not worth my time. He was condescending, arrogant, and other words that aren't appropriate to say here. Well today I got their bill. I was charged for three hours worth of work when they were here less than one hour total. I was charged not $2.95 for a switch, I was charged $57.92 for the switch. I was charged $312 total of which three hours worth of labor at $85 an hour. I was a prisoner of my maker of my generator that I had to go to these people. I will never, ever, ever use this company as an electrician. Just forewarned is for armed. If I could give a negative number, I would. read more

For the second outage in a row, our generator, installed and maintained by Manchester Electric, did not work in a power outage. It is very annoying to have invested so much in a system ($ over ten thousand) to prevent experiencing an outage, and then not have it work when you need it. We hold Manchester Electric responsible for the problems. Then, to make matters worse, we had a very bad experience with their service technician. He was rude and surly from the time he arrived. He spent a half hour trying to diagnose the problem. When he spoke to us later he was very rude, blamed us for the problem and didn't convince me that he knew what was causing the issue or how to fix it. Then he just left. The technician didn't call back as he said he would, so the next day I called Manchester Electric and spoke to the secretary. I told her that we found someone else to take care of the problem, so we didn't need their help any longer. Furthermore, I told her to cancel our maintenance agreement with Manchester Electric. As I was looking on the Generac website for another contractor to service our system, I noticed that Manchester Electric has a one-star rating from all the reviewers. Same is true for Yelp. Apparently, many other customers have had similar experiences with Manchester Electric. It is unfortunate that I didn't see those reviews before I bought the generator from them. read more

This company is a total ripoff. They tried to tell me that the 4 year old generator that I have was "an inexpensive one purchased through Lowes", and offered to replace it for around $6000. I called the place where I purchased it and they told me that it was not sold through Lowes and that they had purchased it directly from Kohler. I called Kohler and they explained that the only difference between my generator and the one sold by Mass Electric was the controller and that if that was the problem they should have fixed that. Also, they do not communicate. I took a morning off from work to meet the guy but he came and went without even ringing the doorbell and then he never returned my calls when I tried to ask what the problem had been. After SEVERAL attempts I finally got him, and he just told me that I needed a new generator. (however it now seems to be working just fine) I wanted to reset the run time to a more convenient one, and he told me that he would have to reset it himself (and bill me, of course) because it was too "complicated". When I talked to the Kohler person, she told me to push "auto" and then "run" and it started up and reset itself. Done. Very "complicated" read more

I've been having some electrical issues lately and by chance my mother met an employee of Manchester Electric in her work parking lot and struck up a conversation. She gave me the number after he assured her that they came to my area. I figured why not as she seemed to think he was friendly and knowing how long it takes people to respond in my area (ages for some reason) and gave them a call. The woman answering the phones was really nice but after speaking to her boss called back and seemed stuck on the idea of how I heard about them, and all those details, claiming they only came to my town based on referrals. I told her the story and eventually, after several days waiting, she called back and set up a time for her boss to stop by and give me an estimate. The man arrived early and was here about five minutes. I think it's an easy issue to fix. He was also super curious on how we heard about them and it seemed a bit off putting to be asked repeatedly for the details. Shouldn't they be happy to have a customer? Anyway, he said they would call the next day and set up an appointment. It sounded a bit overpriced but I was happy as I'd like to get it taken care of. One week later, and no word at all from them. Perhaps they should not say they'll go this far out if they don't want to instead of stringing a person along? I certainly would never recommend them to anyone, even someone in their preferred area after never hearing back after the estimate. read more

Excellent service and pricing. They reworked a kitchen fixture to accept LED 4' tubes and replaced 7 exterior flood fixtures with LED fixtures. Arrived on time after accepting their quote and completed work in the estimated time. Very professional, clean and neat work. Would recommend them and use them again. read more

Good Company . Competent and fairly priced. They did an emergency repair to replace my electric service after a neighbor' s tree took down my overhead service and pulled the electric service off the building. Charged a fair price when they could have taken advantage of the situation. read more

Although the owner appeared competent, all he did was to give me an estimate and then sent over electricians that totally screwed up all the electrically work and made it worse than before, besides breaking some remote controls that cost me $500 to replace. And when they incorrectly wired step down transformers which worked fine before they got there, they claimed they were defective and replaced them for another couple of hundred. Not a company you want to call for your electrical needs. read more
