We were referred to Light'n Leisure by the builder/developer of our new home that is currently under construction. Shortly after we walked in, we were warmly greeted by an employee who noticed we were looking at pendant lighting. Our contractor told us to ask for Michelle who turned out to be right behind the counter. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. She is knowledgeable about the inventory, offered her opinion (because we asked for it) about what size fixtures to get for the space over our island, and checked the system for availability while we looked around. Both employees we worked with were very professional, courteous and personable. Quite honestly, I don't understand the negative reviews regarding customer service. Our experience was the complete opposite of what negative "reviewers" posted. Without a doubt, Light'n Leisure will be our first stop for our future lighting and ceiling fan needs. Purchased a ceiling fan. Was told it would be in within 10 days. We got busy and forgot about it (other things going on with a home build) and realized a month later we never got a call. Turns out they had our email incorrect. Went in to pick up and waited for 15 minutes for two employees to be off of what were clearly personal calls in their "employees only" back rooms. (They were loud enough to be heard.) Guy who came out to help was nice enough, but by that time we were already annoyed to appreciate it. "Discounted" prices are the same or more as online stores. They have been "going out of business" for over a year. Wide selection is the only other positive. read more

This place is an absolute scam. Ordered two light fixtures on line. One was too large. Literally looked at it and packed it back up. I was crediting a mere fraction of the total cost which was 250.00. I received 65.00 back until I complained again by vm and they refunded another 20.00! You cannot talk to anyone. I found a light fixture through google that was online for $8.95. I wanted to order 57 of them but wanted to be sure there was plenty in stock. So I called the phone number provided, called during the operating hours but went straight to voice mail. So i left a message. A day or 2 later, was contacted back. The guy who called said that through the show room they were like $55. I asked about online, and he said, that if I find it for that price to go ahead and order it there. He got very short with me, and I tried to ask him more questions but he went through his little talk about if there is anything more I need to call them. He wouldnt stop talking to allow me to ask if there was plenty in stock. Then just hung up on me. I called back immediately, and went right to voice mail again. If you are going to provide a service, then I suggest you get employees who know how to act on a phone. Beware, if your purchase doesn't work out they will only give a store credit. They won't let you return and get your money back so now I have a $500 store credit that I have no use for because they have nothing I want or need. So basically they are just keeping $500. Of my money. Also you can find most of what they carry for half the price else where. The same fans at this place was $200 cheaper !!! at homedepot. Same exact fan. Same brand, style etc. So I would reccomend going elsewhere for your purchase unless you don't mind having your money held hostage. Now I feel like I have to spend $500. On something I don't need or want just to not throw $500 out the window. read more

Our ceiling fan died after more than 15 years of service so it had to be replaced. I was assisted as soon as I entered and showed a picture of the old fan. The salesman recommended not the most expensive but the most efficient model to meet my needs. Wide selection of fans and lights. Salesperson even helped carry items out to my car. read more

the Milford store used to have good choices for lights. but we had 3 big issues this time; 1. Wrong product given to us- We purchased a Chrome table lamp, the lady brought a boxed from inside with no labels. Sales associate told us that she knew to bring the correct box. We got a white and red lamp. We needed it so we had to use it 2. We were not told or made to read the notice on their back door that once purchased, you only get store credit!!! put a big sign on the door to let customers know that. Also train sales associate to mention it to the customers before they purchased any lights. What we purchased doesn't have dawn to Dusk features which was very important to us. 3. Most profit boxes don't have photos of product you are purchasing. 4. There is hardly any inventor, so getting a store credi was not an option for us. But want customers to know that the store only gives store credit and they don't tell you at point of sale!!! read more

My wife and I purchased 2 lights with a delivery date of two weeks which we were fine with. That was almost 7 weeks ago and still no lights, yet they were quick to have us pay. The more frustrating part is the lack of service we ha be been waiting for about 10 days for an update but still nothing. We have emailed multiple times and called - which isn't answered by anyone just a voicemail that doesn't get returned. Overall very frustrated and would not go back to this business, we had a large project going on remolding the exterior which started after we ordered the items and finished up 2 weeks so the timeline is ridiculous and no updates will be offered. Can't I leave a NO-STAR review?? Terrible! Rude! I was met by a young, immature, girl in about her twenties who didn't know her stuff. I had to keep asking for help because she acted like I was interrupting her on her lunch break. Finally, I told her it was obvious I was bothering her as I could tell she didn't want to help me. She said "I am helping you," and I said, "No, you're not!" She said, "I don't have to help you!" I said, "Do you want to get fired?" I went to the front of the store to complain to whom I believed was her manager, an older man. I walked out. I will NEVER again walk into that store. If the store owner knows anything at all about customer service, they would fire her. The 60-day store credit only policy is also from the dark ages. Do they even have a clue about Amazon??? Sleazy and shifty best describes this place. We bought a pendant-style light that was not complete, as it needed a plug and switch to be used. They don't sell the kit but we were assured it could be found @ a hardware store. Went to 3 stores and couldn't find it so we tried to return it unopened an HOUR LATER. They wouldn't give a refund, just a store credit. The salesman stoned us at the counter and asked for an email for "customer service" and when my wife asked to speak to the manager he gave us a phone number and it WAS UP TO US TO CALL!! "Corky" the manager still hasn't returned 4 phone calls. We refused the credit and took the light because we didn't trust the weasel that sold it. We then warned other customers about their policies on the way out and was asked to stop harassing them. We as consumers have to protect each other from unethical businesses. read more

I will not shop here again -- if you have to return something -- make sure you return it in the same box (the box can't have any damage), or they will not refund you -- even if the item that you are returning is not damaged. Everything has to be in "like new" condition when you return it -- even the box. This is absurd considering some of us tear open a box or cut it open to get the product out. read more

So, yes, we were upset but in absolutely no way unreasonably upset. What company has a 'no refund' policy in this day and age? Shop at this store at your own risk. I have been a repeat customer of the Danvers store, but that ends today. I went to the store to check out the status of my order. The person behind the counter stated right away he was new and it might take awhile for him to figure out. After some time he asked for some help. A woman came out of the back office and looked at my order and said one item was backordered until the end of August and the other item until the end of September. I said, how could that be if when I ordered them weeks ago I was told they were in stock and would be shipped directly to my house. She said the helper was new and did not know better. I explained I was clear to the person when I purchased the lights that I needed them by the beginning of August and she verified they had the stock to ship. I asked why they would not call me to let me know they are backordered? In an unprofessional tone she stated that was not possible since they were short staffed to begin with and then walked off. I would never have ordered them if I had known it would take that long. Now I have to rush to find something fast, since my contractor is going to install next week. The Manager/owner? ended up looking in the back to see if they had any in stock and then gave me a full refund. I asked him for the stock numbers so I could see if could find someplace else. He told me that online companies might say they have them when order. But then a few days later call you to tell you that they are back ordered. I thought to myself as I was walking out the door, at least they would call to inform you of the back ordered. Important to note that although I never actually received anything from them, my credit card was charged the day I placed the order. They lost a good customer today. I will no longer shop at that store or recommend them to anyone. On a positive note I found something I liked better, in stock and cheaper. read more

What an incredible experience. We had broken the fixture on the front porch on our condo when we moved in. We went many places and finally were referred to Light n Leisure in Danvers. Awful experience after picking up our new fixture. Box with the light fixture (was a floor model) was filled literally with garbage. Customer service was awful to deal with. Never apologized. One person in the store was very apologetic but no compensation for our having to drive to the store for the third time and for the garbage they packed our fixture with. I have been in the Danvers Route 114 store multiple times in the last few months. I agree with the other reviewers that the service ranges from benignly inattentive to aggressively so. At least one of the employees was borderline rude, but others were more appropriate. I haven't had a problem with the merchandise, so I can't comment on the return policy. Prices are very good, and the selection of product is pretty extensive. the hours of operation are also convenient. After reading the reviews, though, I am a bit concerned about what happens if and when there is a problem with the merchandise. read more

I went to pick up an order at the Danvers location for my father. Walked in and was greeted by an older gentleman who assisted me immediately. Few minutes in, a younger gentleman walks in and grabs a box of masks (that are open and exposed to all) and directs it in my face and loudly says "DO YOU WANT A MASK?" I was taken back and slightly confused and said "no thank you, I am leaving in just a minute". He puts the box down and again in a passive aggressive manner says "I GUESS I WILL TAKE ONE THEN" and storms off to the back. Never makes any additional eye contact or even attempts to politely explain that the store has a mask policy. There is a sign on the door that I noticed as I walked out, among many other notices of advertisements but no other signs within the building. The town of Danvers does not have a mask mandate. I have no issue wearing one when asked, but he was deliberately rude and arrogant. He needs customer service skills training and if not happy and able to work with the public, find a job better suited. I thanked the older gentleman for being kind and professional. If I wasn't picking up an order for someone else, I would have returned it on spot. I will be sure to let others know how unprofessional this location is. read more

We ordered $1,100 worth of merchandise from Light 'N Leisure "The Purple Buildings" in early March, including 10 LED light bulbs (totaling approximately $100). 7 of the 10 light bulbs were defective and flickered consistently. We were concerned about leaving the safety of our home to go out and exchange them because of the Covid-19 virus but we had no other light bulbs in the house. We called at 10:00 am when the store opened and asked what the process was for an exchange. They said they had curbside service, but it closed at 11:30 am. We provided the exchange details over the phone and were told we would be emailed a confirmation which we never received. When we arrived at the store, two different signs were posted on the door that both said "WE ARE HERE PLEASE KNOCK LOUDLY OR CALL 978-762-7510". My husband put on rubber gloves and knocked on the door while I stayed in the car. Someone peeked through the window and asked what he needed. He gave his name, but they said they had no information about our exchange and couldn't help him. Very shortly thereafter, someone named Bill (?) called my husband's cell phone and berated him in an extremely harsh and condescending manner saying "there is a pandemic going on right now, you cannot be banging on the door!" Extremely confused, my husband responded "there is a sign on the door that says please knock loudly." The man continued talking down to my husband in such an extremely insulting tone (the Bluetooth speaker was on so I overheard the conversation) so I took the phone from him and told him "you will not scold my husband for following the directions of the store staff and the sign that was very clearly posted on the door. We are simply here to exchange some defective light bulbs and that was it". He then called me rude and completely refused to discuss the transaction any further. I asked for the name and phone number of someone else that could provide better customer service and he said no, he would not give me that information. He told me that I would have to wait until the store reopened to the public to exchange the light bulbs. So not only did we experience verbal abuse from this individual, we put our health and safety at risk to drive to the Danvers store for nothing and then to Home Depot to buy new light bulbs. read more

I went to the traditional home stores like lowes and home depot but they have little variety. I finally went to Light N Leisure and the selection is enormous. The prices were very reasonable. We needed 5 ceiling lights and a fan. We were greeted when entering the store and had great service for the first 20 minutes. When we started taking photographs and measurements to verify what we liked for the space, the salesperson basically disappeared and we had to keep asking for help. No one else was in the store so it's not like she had to help another customer. Starting to feel unwanted because we kept having to hunt her down for help, my husband asked if we did something wrong and why are we being avoided. We were told that 8 out of 10 customers shop at the store and then buy online so they no longer wanted help us. We had every intention to buy from the store as we are willing to pay for customer service. The items we were considering were going to total greater than $2500. It looks like we will be going to Wolfer's or Yale Electric instead. Very disappointed. read more

Wow. We have purchase chandeliers at other stores- and spent a lot (A LOT) of money on lighting. We happened to be in Salem Mass for the day and just decided to stop in to see if they had a dining room light (we have been looking for the perfect thing for 3 years- and not willing to settle) We found a perfect fixture at an amazing price ($279- which was reasonable for what we wanted PLUS an additional 50% off- WHOO HOO) The sales people were friendly and listened to us..and by the time we left- we had a dining room fixture, a front entryway fixture and outdoor lights (all for less than what we paid for 1 kitchen light fixture. It sounds as if "Lyn F." had a disasterous experience with L & L and has every "right" to complain. They screwed up with her big time. I have had a different experience. I have purchased 2 lamps from the Danvers store on 2 separate occasions. I DID know that the store does not have most of their items at the store. They have to be ordered and both times there were delays (weeks) but unlike Lyn F., the store called me. The reason I didn't mind the delay was because I was looking for a very specific lamp and L&L was the only place that had exactly what I wanted. Also, the price for one of the lamps was literally $400 less than anything comparable. read more

This is a really poor place to shop. We were there last weekend and purchased two items. We had a real hard time getting the attention of the sales staff that were sitting around not doing much of anything. Both items that we purchased had clearly already been opened and were missing parts and when I called the store for assistance and left a message, they didn't even call me back. I kept calling until I got someone from Sales and he told me that the post lamp product that I purchased doesn't include post mounting screws. If that were true, wouldn't you expect a sales person to tell you that when making the purchase? Came here for some outdoor lights for our house - both pole and house-mounted. They had a great selection, with many on display. Nathaniel helped us and was awesome! He plugged lights in, put them on the pole cap we had brought with us, and was very patient and helpful. He even took the time to talk through bulb options and gave us a great suggestion for where to eat dinner ;). The prices were great as well, and we were informed that if we're unhappy with our lights once we get them home, we will be able to exchange them for other options. Light'n Leisure is an awesome store. Let me tell you why. We had been looking for ceiling fans online for quite a while. We knew we wanted a Casablanca. Upon entering the store, we were greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable sales person. I mentioned that we loved our Casablanca fan in our bedroom and wanted one for our family room. She explained that it was a great brand and lucky for us they had tons of them on display. After asking us about room size and clearly explaining remote control and lighting options, we zeroed in on one particular model. I figured we could order it and pick it up a few weeks later. Nope! They stock these! Brand new, in a box and with a fantastic price! Cliff notes: Fabulous selection. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, products in stock, outstanding prices. Michelle was very knowledgeable and patient. She answered all our questions, and printed out specs for our electrician. That night, to our surprise, we received an email from Light 'n Leisure saying they were able to find a lower price on several of our items and proceeded to discount our quote! I got amazing service from Larry here. He was able to help me put together all of the lighting fixtures for my new condo in one afternoon. What's more, he had most of it in stock for me to take immediately. The non-custom pieces remaining showed up in a few days and I got a prompt email telling me they were ready to be picked up. If I could give half a star, I would. Walked in as a first-time customer, to look for a chandelier and flush mount fixtures for my new home. No one greeted me THE ENTIRE TIME I was in the store (about ten minutes), trying to find a look-alike of the chandelier I envisioned. I finally approached the front counter to inquire about a white flush mount I wanted to purchase, and wasn't even greeted by the female associate behind the register. She raised her voice and asked the male associate behind the counter if he was available to help me...while the female associate helped the woman standing BEHIND ME IN LINE. We went to the Danvers Light N Leisure to look at new lights for our kitchen. Joel spent a lot of time with us looking at different light fixtures and the different kinds of bulbs available. He sent us an email of the quote of a light that we were interested in. We then found a pendant light online that we loved. I called the store and spoke with Michelle. I just want you to know that we received our 3 pendant lights yesterday. They are all in one piece and beautiful. Thank you for calling the company to reassure us that we could get them as a rush order because I know they were low in stock everywhere. Usually it was 6-8 weeks to get them from any one else if possible and we got them in a week and a half thanks to you. We are so happy with everything you did for us. read more
