Butter Chicken
Meet B.

Easily one of the worst dining experiences I've had. There were only two groups in the restaurant, yet it still took 90 minutes for our food to arrive. While we waited, the owner's father--who is Nepali--kept making unprofessional comments about a neighboring Indian restaurant, criticizing their food and service. It was uncomfortable and unnecessary. When the food finally came, it was terrible. Bland, poorly made, and absolutely not worth the wait. To make it worse, Yelp shows this place at 4.6 stars, which is completely misleading based on our experience. If this is the level of service and food quality when the restaurant is nearly empty, I can't imagine what it's like on a busy night. Definitely not somewhere I'd ever go back to or recommend.

Malai Kofta Curry

Amazing Indian restaurant in Anchorage. The space is small with only 5-6 tables but it is worth the wait. The place is family owned and run with only 2-3 people so the order takes time but the food is delicious. We ordered the malai kofta, dal makhani, thakali chicken and papadi chaat for the table. I absolutely devoured the malai kofta - the gravy was super tasty and tasted even better with home-style roti. The papadi chaat was also yummy and tangy, how it's supposed to - right proportion of spices and curd. My friends enjoyed the thakali chicken curry and said it was definitely a reason to come back to this restaurant. The server was super friendly and homely - we loved the dining experience.

If I could legally add the word MAGIC in front of Mandala Restaurant I would do so in a heartbeat. Beyond blown away from the flavours and the curation of art and experience in this restaurant. My bestie and I originally met in India and tasting this food immediately transported us into another hemisphere across the world just by our tastebuds. Never will I forget the entertainment found with the mushroom lamps and the cozy atmosphere from the warm curry in my belly. This place is top tier! As a visitor from Honolulu visiting in the middle of winter -20°F this place warmed up my entire mind body and spirit. Cannot wait to tell my friends and family to come back again :)

Is this worth 38$?

Worth the wait? Depends on how hungry you are. I waited 45 minutes for my entrée--even though I was only the second person in the entire restaurant. My starter came out after 15 minutes, then I sat for another half hour before receiving a disappointingly small portion. While the food was tasty, by that point, it didn't matter--I was furious. When I raised the issue, the owner explained it away by saying he had a lot of takeout orders. I've never experienced such a long wait with so few people dining in. I appreciate slow food, but this was excessive and poorly handled. Expensive and slow!

It was the last day of school, so we needed to visit one more restaurant that we wouldn't take our kids to. I'm so glad we chose Mandala! Modern, clean, peaceful space. Crisp white table cloths, warm lighting, and calming water fountains. Employees were welcoming, helpful and super hardworking. We got the garlic naan, cheese naan, butter chicken, and the chicken achari - both with medium heat. Rice was complimentary. Wow, wow, wow. The creamy curry with butter chicken reminded us of tomato basil soup but with more flavor. The chicken achari was amazing. The spices melded perfectly and my spouse was barely sharing (rolls eyes). We loved everything. The icing on the cake? This was the cheapest lunch we've had in a while. We can't wait to return to try more menu items. Highly recommend checking out Mandala!

There are a plethora of menu options, surely to satisfy everyone's desired flavor profiles. My go to order is the Chicken Korma, Paneer Kulcha, and Mango Lassi. The Chicken Korma is tender, the sauce is super creamy as well as flavorful with that signature nutty fruity mixture. The Paneer Kulcha is also wonderful, it has just the right amount of cheese in it that it's not greasy. Lastly, the Mango Lassi, it is very mango, but still remains rich and yogurty. I highly recommend you check this place out next time the desire to get Indian strikes you.

We started with the sampler pakoras, which was perfect for a first visit because you get a little bit of everything, vegetable samosa, vegetable pakora, paneer pakora, and chicken pakora. Honestly just a great way to try a mix without overthinking it, and everything came out fresh and really good. For mains, we ordered the chicken tikka masala at medium heat, and I'd say it definitely leans more mild. It was good, but didn't quite have the depth or spice I personally look for in a tikka masala. It almost ate more like a tomato-based dish rather than that rich, bold flavor I usually expect. Still enjoyed it, just not as flavorful as I was hoping for. We also got the tandoori mixed grill with sheikh kabab, tandoori chicken, and tandoori shrimp, and that was a great call, especially with garlic naan. Probably my favorite part of the meal and a really good option if you want to try a few different things. Service was super fast even though the place was busy, and everything just felt really taken care of, waters stayed filled, to-go boxes came out right away, no waiting around for anything. Overall, really good food, great service, and an easy first visit. Definitely a spot I'd come back to and order more from the menu.

They did an impressive job of making all of the food taste authentic, not your typical bistro or fusion master of none style menus. We ordered butter chicken, pho rare steak, basket naan, chicken biryani, and chicken korma. The pho was phenomenal, just like in Vietnam, with an average portion of meat, overall very large portions and great flavor. The butter chicken was soupy and tasty, plenty of chicken, and large enough for anyone to be satisfied. I'm not typically a fan of biryani, but the chicken biryani had the perfect amount of spice, and almost addicting taste and heaping pile of food, enough for 3 meals! I did not like the chicken korma, but my wife loved it - with a unique yet non spicy flavor. The naan basket was also large, with 3 flavors of naan. Overall, the only negative thing was limited parking in the winter, otherwise I will definitely be back!

A Culinary Delight at Everest…read more Located on Old Seward Highway, Everest stands out as a beacon for lovers of Indian cuisine. As soon as you step inside, you're enveloped in an ambiance that exudes warmth and authenticity, accentuated by traditional décor and soothing music. The waitstaff was impeccably dressed, inviting, and friendly. The menu is a delightful journey through India's diverse tapestry of flavors, and a buffet is available during the week. From the moment we took our first bite of the food, the rich spices and freshly grilled notes were simply mesmerizing. The butter chicken was a showcase of culinary mastery -- tender chicken in a creamy, tomato-based sauce that was perfectly balanced. The garlic naan bread was so delicious, we ordered a second basket! For those seeking something unique, the lamb biryani was an absolute revelation. Aromatic basmati rice layered with succulent lamb, enriched with saffron, was the star of the evening. Every dish is crafted with such care that it tells a story of tradition and passion. What truly sets Everest apart, however, is its impeccable service. The staff is welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely eager to enhance your dining experience. They guided us through the menu perfectly, offering thoughtful recommendations and ensuring that our glasses were never empty. In a world where dining out is often about convenience, Everest restores the joy of eating out with its exquisite food, charming atmosphere, and attentive service, while still catering to those seeking a quick meal by having a drive through. Starting out dipping veggie Samosas in mint sauce or red sauce( I don't remember the name) was a scrumptious beginning to a tasty meal. Hubby ordered a rice pilaus-chicken biryani. All partnered well with a piping hot cup of milky tea. Music was a fun Indian rap like background with plenty of nice pictures to create an eastern atmosphere. We wanted to take a tub, yes tub, of the chili home. The chili is that good! Unfortunately, we were flying out on the same day we found this place, and knew that we would not be able to do so. Anywho, we were a bit overwhelmed by all of the options, so we ended up going with tacos: One taco was barbacoa street style with a cheesy garlic tortilla, the other taco was crawfish American style with the jalaflama tortilla.
