Decided to go on a last-minute birthday lunch and needed to find someplace we hadn't been to that offers up gluten-free options. We landed on Bombay deluxe on Northern lights. We called first to make sure as this restaurant has made it on a Facebook gluten-free list, but doesn't go into specifics. Anyway, they confirm that they offer gluten free, vegan, and Tree nut allergy options. This restaurant is located in a strip mall off of Northern lights across from Carl's Jr. approximately on the right hand side of northern lights before you get the ARCTIC going west. You might miss it if you're not looking for it. Entering the building, you can tell that it has been there for a while. The restaurant itself had an old but authentic Anchorage staple type feel to it. I would say the booths could use some updating but nothing we sat on was ripped. It was mostly the façade part of the booth. It had some art and such inside. The host greeted us immediately upon entry was very kind. apparently they offer buffet or regular service. We chose regular service because of the gluten and Tree nut allergy and thus we needed to speak directly to the waiter. Our waiter was also the host, and he was very pleasant, friendly, and very helpful. He changed his rubber gloves, multiple times throughout our dining experience, which tells us they're very on top of cleanliness. They even swapped out the food once while we were there at the buffet center to refresh what was already there. I felt very comfortable there. We chose a booth. They do have a side that has tables but I'm guessing that might be maybe four small groups or maybe not. I want it lamb and ask the waiter to give me a suggestion so he suggested the plain lamb curry as he said it was very popular. It ran for $24.95 and it comes with a bowl of jasmine rice. My son wanted the chicken, coconut curry, but substitute it for lamb when he asked if he could do that the waiter told him that it would be the charge of the lamb curry, which was only two dollars more. So he went with that so he essentially had lamb coconut curry which was $24.95 as well. The regular price for chicken curry is $20.95. I asked about a nonalcoholic drink called the mango lassi and what that was has it states it comes with yogurt. The waiter said it is like a smoothie made with yogurt so we decided to try that my son wanted strawberry lassi, but they didn't have any fresh strawberries on hand so he went for the mango as well. These ran $7.50 apiece. They do have other sodas that you can also choose from. I will upload copies of the menu, etc.. OK, our meals were delicious. Very very flavorful. They give you plates and utensils with napkins when you sit down and then the dish comes out in a metal bowl with a ceramic bowl of rice to share. The lassi was room temperature not cold and taste it to me like melted. Yo yogurt mango flavored. For me, I could only do so much because I'm not a milk drinker and it tasted too milky for me and being room temperature didn't help so I had to chase it with water. I drank almost half as the taste was OK my son enjoyed it a lot and so he finished his and mine. So on that, it's to each their own. The waiter was very attentive as I stated before and checked on us multiple times asking if we needed more rice in the end we did not both got very full off the meal that we had scooping rice into your plate and then your dish on top of the rice I guess is the way they would expect you to eat it and that's what we did. But I guess it would be OK just to dump your rice into your dish and forgo the plate altogether! Lol if that's your jam! The entire experience cost $64.90. They will come out with your ticket and the credit card contraption for you to choose your tip or do a custom tip and pay for your meal with credit card. Will definitely come back here. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that caters to dietary allergies and make it real simple because in 2026 a restaurant is without excuse because the ingredients are in the stores just go by them. read more

Perfect place to be on such a cold night. The wonderfully fragrant spices of India and delicious curry of Chicken Tikka Marsala warmed us right up. Starting out dipping veggie Samosas in mint sauce or red sauce( I don't remember the name) was a scrumptious beginning to a tasty meal. Hubby ordered a rice pilaus-chicken biryani. The waitress, who was lovely and informative, had our food seasoned 'just right' for neophyte palates. A cool white sauce cut through the spices. All partnered well with a piping hot cup of milky tea. Music was a fun Indian rap like background with plenty of nice pictures to create an eastern atmosphere. Prices were reasonable and we parked right outside the front door. After sharing a dessert of mango ice cream we were both feeling warm and happy in a food coma. Had dinner here on day 1 of our Alaska trip and loved food. But things took a completely different turn when we came back after couple of days. 1. When we mentioned 1 order or rice, server mentioned rice comes with curries which they did mention when we ordered same curries 2 days ago. 2. We ordered Lachcha paratha, what we received was a simple tandoori roti in oval shape. We called it out so they took it back and brought a different tandoori bread, it wasn't lachcha paratha either but we have had it enough as curries were already getting cold. 3. We ordered Onion Salad as well during our 2nd visit, cutting big cubes of onion doesn't make it a salad. I was introduced to Bombay Deluxe thru an Elite Yelp event . I thought the food was delicious then but I wondered if it was specially made for our event . Bombay serves Indian cuisine and they feature an all day buffet . I was very pleased to find out the food was just as wonderful as it was for our event ! Every dish on the buffet is excellent and so is the naan that they serve with your meal . Everything is made from scratch and I believe they use only the finest ingredients . I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian cuisine or just wants a delicious healthy meal . Bombay is conveniently located in Midtown . I've been frequenting this restaurant for about 10 years. I've been through their menu and staff changes but it's always delicious. When I lived in state, I'd come by sometimes two or three times a week and always bring friends or family. Now when I'm visiting, I make sure I eat here at least three times before I leave, by either ordering it for pick up or dining in. I wish I could take it with me to Hawaii!! It's my favorite restaurant in the whole world. I love the staff. I'm always so happy to see them! I love the Indian music they play on the tv. I love the decorations and homey vibes. I love the food. I love everything! The mango lassi, samosas, lamb biryani, lamb korma, palak and mattar paneers, chicken vindaloo, any of the curries, daal, all of the naan....I could eat these every day. The service was immediate. We had nine people and they put together two tables. They brought food quickly and the service was good. The temperature of the room was very warm. It was at least (it felt to me like) 90 degrees. The food was excellent. We asked for mild and it all came mild. The vegetarians and carnivores said that their food was excellent. So fair warning I have only had their chicken Tikka Masala and their garlic Naan, but let me tell you they are fabulous!! I ordered some on Uber eats and I can't say I particularly care for the high prices but that's kind of the norm up here. Y'know how, when animals were returning to urban environments during peak-COVID, how we said things like "Nature is healing." Well: "Anchorage is healing" Walking from work to Bombay Deluxe became a ritual for me pre-COVID. I'd get some steps, some sun, and listen to some podcasts. Then, one day, the buffet was shutdown due to COVID concerns. I am happy to report that it is back and is, in fact, better than ever. I mean that. The food options are even more diverse than before and are, importantly, much SPICIER! People in Anchorage seem to have a low tolerance for heat though, so I'm not sure how long the spice will stay. Still, I shall enjoy it while it lasts. Also, I'm not sure if this is a new trend but, the server brought me piping hot (temp-wise) NAAN to my table. Very middling Indian food, prohibitively salty, but with a separate vegan section of the men that drew us in. We stopped in for dinner having seen that they have 7 vegan dishes. We ordered: -Navrattan curry ($18.95). This was our least favourite dish. It was excessively salty, very tomato-ey, lacked flavour complexity and depth. Very unsophisticated, poorly calibrated dish. 2/5 -Aloo gobi ($17.95). Slightly better than the Navrattan, but also excessively salty. What's going on in the kitchen? 2/5 -Dal tarka ($17.95). The best of the three dishes, with a nice creamy character, but also on the salty side. Goes well with the rice to tone down the salt, but still could use better calibration. 2.5/5 Each dish came with rice, plus we ordred a tandoori roti ($4.95), which was solid. This was an alright place for an Indian food buffet. Is it my favorite place in town? No. It's alright. Service wasn't great, food wasn't spectacular and the overall feel of the restaurant is that it used to be some kind saloon/ restaurant combo. Something I do like: their chicken soup from the buffet line tastes like a home cooked Mexican caldo without large vegetable chunks. Things that could be better: service, naan is on the crispy side, samosas don't have the nice crunch, buffet food is on the very mild side. The price point was also on the unclear side. Online I had seen $24.95 weekend adult buffet, in store had a $24.95 sign on whiteboard, the paper menu showed $34.95 but the total cost with waters came to $59 and some change for two adults weekend meal. I like Bombay and we order takeout from them from time to time. Most of the time the food is consistently good. That being said, this was our first in person visit. The location is good with lots of parking and a cute exterior. Inside it's cozy and warm with some nice comfy booths. This makes for a good place to bring a friend to chat and have some privacy. The Indian music playing in the background was fun and just the right volume. Service was pleasant and timely. Now let's get to portion size for price. My teenage son is an athlete and eats like a bear so with the chicken tikka masala entree priced at 21 dollars and change it would be nice to get more chicken. He ended up eating his portion and the rest of mine. They do refill your rice compliments of the house and your Indian Masala tea, which is nice. The cheese stuffed garlic naan bread was delicious and we got 4 slices. The flavors of the tikka masala sauce I will say are robust and succulent. We asked for medium spice but it was mild. I ordered Chicken Makhni. The sauce was very oily and found multiple pieces of chicken that were hard and unchewable. I even found a bone. Usually I brush off a weird piece or two in my food. There were a little too many in my one order. I have ordered from this location and the south location many times. The south locations curry is more creamy. My go to spot for when I'm craving for Indian food. My usual order consists of the lamb curry and naan. There's also combo platter that we used to always order that comes with some other small sides. But sometimes when we go there it's unavailable. The lamb curry is my favorite on their menu. You can get it mild, medium or spicy. I can handle a lot of heat, so even their spicy isn't very spicy to me. Love putting the curry sauce over rice! Their naan is super delicious as well. I just wish they made their to go naan the same way as they do when you dine in. I prefer to have 4 smaller pieces rather than 1 or 2 larger ones when you order to go. I can't believe it. This place literally hasn't changed anything on their buffet in almost a decade. I'm floored. I guess they have a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude. But holy heck their cook must being dying of boredom. The buffet is small to begin with, so to not offer any variety whatsoever must be maddening. It's bizarre to say the least- India is am enormous country with a diverse cuisine. I'm surprised they aren't making more of any effort to represent at least a little of that variety. This buffet is LITERALLY the lowest common denominator. It is, as it has always been, very disappointing if you don't know any better. We went there twice within a month for the buffet. The staff is very attentive and the food is excellent. There are always two soups however, the lentil is one of my favorites. You can also get salad to start with. Their naan is always good alongside both vegetarian and meat dishes. The tandoori chicken and curry chicken are always good. The Kheer lacked the flavor of the traditional nuts, raisins, and green cardamom. It was way too bland and was missing key ingredients that make it authentic. I came here with a friend today and got the buffet because I always order the butter chicken which is amazing and as it turns out, they have it in the buffet. Not what it used to be. In the past, when we ordered delivery from Bombay Deluxe, it would arrive on time and the portions would be enough for two-plus helpings. No longer. Not only was our delivery late (the last two times), but they've halved their portion sizes (the last two times) and are charging the same price. Granted, the Door Dash peeps could be responsible for the late delivery (maybe the restaurant also?), but the portion sizes are scant and the prices for the new portion sizes are ridiculous. We weren't expecting too much being in Alaska but were delightfully surprised and our favorite part of the meal was the very very soft, buttery, hot NAANS! There was nothing on their steam table that I didn't truly enjoy. I am not experienced with Indian food so I shouldn't remark on authenticity. But I do know tasty food and was pleased with what they offered. The Nutshell: they are squeaking by with 4 stars. Stopped here for dinner after a long day of hiking. The staff was attentive and we were seated immediately on a Sunday evening. They were busy though with a lot of pick up orders and took some time getting to us. We ordered the paneer tikka masala, kofta and chili chicken with some onion kulchas. The onion kicks kulchas were super soft and one of the best I have had in the US. We went with medium spicy for the kofta which was the extent of spice we could handle. Really good food but horrible service! I ordered my food, and waited 30min. Drove to pick it up, and waited another 40min while in the restaurant. 4 door dash orders went out while I was waiting! Finally I had to freak out to get my food! I asked nicely for my order 3 times, before I freaked! As soon as I did they magically had my order ready! Not going back! But the food is good, dammit! I love the food here, but after the last few times ordering I feel I need to update this review. I was told they got a new chef this year. Since then, I've noticed that their prices have increased, the portions are much smaller, and even some of my favorite dishes are now very different. My go to was the chicken tikka lababdor, which now unfortunately it tastes like a completely different dish and costs $5+ then it once did, again also a much smaller portion. The Naan is almost half the size they used to be but costs $2+ more. This was still not enough to keep me away, as I do love Indian food. However, the last time I ordered delivery from them I was told it would take 1 hour 20 minutes. After waiting almost 2 hours I called to see what the status was. I was then told that my order hadn't even left the restaurant yet !! The man then told me if I came and got it, it would be much quicker, which is what I ended up having to do. They didn't even bother trying to make it right or offer any sort of fix to the problem. After all of this; recipe changes, portions size decreasing , cost increases and poor customer service, I will be going elsewhere for my Indian Food cravings! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for months. I was stoked. And then I was surprised to find that it was next to a Korean restaurant. Suddenly the debate became between Tikka Lababdor and Bibimbap. Beware YELPERS. The struggle is real. Two excellent foods right next door. Ultimately we decided on Bombay (with the consolation that we'd go to the Korean Market next door) The food was delightful. We ordered Palak Paneer and Tikka Lababdor and Garlic Naan. Out three dishes came with basmati rice. It came out very hot and fresh. The serving sizes were large enough to feed us and still leave leftovers. We asked for the medium spice and it was the perfect amount of heat and flavor. I did find myself drinking quite a bit of water so spice haters beware. The garlic Naan was nothing to get stoked about, but it was tasty. Service was slow. The only blemish on an otherwise delightful meal. Several beers on tap and several more in the bottle and can. Lots of wine choices.
