    Malai Kofta Curry
    Aditi M.

Amazing Indian restaurant in Anchorage. The space is small with only 5-6 tables but it is worth the wait. The place is family owned and run with only 2-3 people so the order takes time but the food is delicious. We ordered the malai kofta, dal makhani, thakali chicken and papadi chaat for the table. I absolutely devoured the malai kofta - the gravy was super tasty and tasted even better with home-style roti. The papadi chaat was also yummy and tangy, how it's supposed to - right proportion of spices and curd. My friends enjoyed the thakali chicken curry and said it was definitely a reason to come back to this restaurant. The server was super friendly and homely - we loved the dining experience.

If I could legally add the word MAGIC in front of Mandala Restaurant I would do so in a heartbeat. Beyond blown away from the flavours and the curation of art and experience in this restaurant. My bestie and I originally met in India and tasting this food immediately transported us into another hemisphere across the world just by our tastebuds. Never will I forget the entertainment found with the mushroom lamps and the cozy atmosphere from the warm curry in my belly. This place is top tier! As a visitor from Honolulu visiting in the middle of winter -20°F this place warmed up my entire mind body and spirit. Cannot wait to tell my friends and family to come back again :)

    Is this worth 38$?

Worth the wait? Depends on how hungry you are. I waited 45 minutes for my entrée--even though I was only the second person in the entire restaurant. My starter came out after 15 minutes, then I sat for another half hour before receiving a disappointingly small portion. While the food was tasty, by that point, it didn't matter--I was furious. When I raised the issue, the owner explained it away by saying he had a lot of takeout orders. I've never experienced such a long wait with so few people dining in. I appreciate slow food, but this was excessive and poorly handled. Expensive and slow!

It was the last day of school, so we needed to visit one more restaurant that we wouldn't take our kids to. I'm so glad we chose Mandala! Modern, clean, peaceful space. Crisp white table cloths, warm lighting, and calming water fountains. Employees were welcoming, helpful and super hardworking. We got the garlic naan, cheese naan, butter chicken, and the chicken achari - both with medium heat. Rice was complimentary. Wow, wow, wow. The creamy curry with butter chicken reminded us of tomato basil soup but with more flavor. The chicken achari was amazing. The spices melded perfectly and my spouse was barely sharing (rolls eyes). We loved everything. The icing on the cake? This was the cheapest lunch we've had in a while. We can't wait to return to try more menu items. Highly recommend checking out Mandala!

We started with the sampler pakoras, which was perfect for a first visit because you get a little bit of everything, vegetable samosa, vegetable pakora, paneer pakora, and chicken pakora. Honestly just a great way to try a mix without overthinking it, and everything came out fresh and really good. For mains, we ordered the chicken tikka masala at medium heat, and I'd say it definitely leans more mild. It was good, but didn't quite have the depth or spice I personally look for in a tikka masala. It almost ate more like a tomato-based dish rather than that rich, bold flavor I usually expect. Still enjoyed it, just not as flavorful as I was hoping for. We also got the tandoori mixed grill with sheikh kabab, tandoori chicken, and tandoori shrimp, and that was a great call, especially with garlic naan. Probably my favorite part of the meal and a really good option if you want to try a few different things. Service was super fast even though the place was busy, and everything just felt really taken care of, waters stayed filled, to-go boxes came out right away, no waiting around for anything. Overall, really good food, great service, and an easy first visit. Definitely a spot I'd come back to and order more from the menu.

They did an impressive job of making all of the food taste authentic, not your typical bistro or fusion master of none style menus. We ordered butter chicken, pho rare steak, basket naan, chicken biryani, and chicken korma. The pho was phenomenal, just like in Vietnam, with an average portion of meat, overall very large portions and great flavor. The butter chicken was soupy and tasty, plenty of chicken, and large enough for anyone to be satisfied. I'm not typically a fan of biryani, but the chicken biryani had the perfect amount of spice, and almost addicting taste and heaping pile of food, enough for 3 meals! I did not like the chicken korma, but my wife loved it - with a unique yet non spicy flavor. The naan basket was also large, with 3 flavors of naan. Overall, the only negative thing was limited parking in the winter, otherwise I will definitely be back!

Decided to go on a last-minute birthday lunch and needed to find someplace we hadn't been to that…read moreoffers up gluten-free options. We landed on Bombay deluxe on Northern lights. We called first to make sure as this restaurant has made it on a Facebook gluten-free list, but doesn't go into specifics. Anyway, they confirm that they offer gluten free, vegan, and Tree nut allergy options. This restaurant is located in a strip mall off of Northern lights across from Carl's Jr. approximately on the right hand side of northern lights before you get the ARCTIC going west. You might miss it if you're not looking for it. Entering the building, you can tell that it has been there for a while. The restaurant itself had an old but authentic Anchorage staple type feel to it. I would say the booths could use some updating but nothing we sat on was ripped. It was mostly the façade part of the booth. It had some art and such inside. The host greeted us immediately upon entry was very kind. apparently they offer buffet or regular service. We chose regular service because of the gluten and Tree nut allergy and thus we needed to speak directly to the waiter. Our waiter was also the host, and he was very pleasant, friendly, and very helpful. He changed his rubber gloves, multiple times throughout our dining experience, which tells us they're very on top of cleanliness. They even swapped out the food once while we were there at the buffet center to refresh what was already there. I felt very comfortable there. We chose a booth. They do have a side that has tables but I'm guessing that might be maybe four small groups or maybe not. I want it lamb and ask the waiter to give me a suggestion so he suggested the plain lamb curry as he said it was very popular. It ran for $24.95 and it comes with a bowl of jasmine rice. My son wanted the chicken, coconut curry, but substitute it for lamb when he asked if he could do that the waiter told him that it would be the charge of the lamb curry, which was only two dollars more. So he went with that so he essentially had lamb coconut curry which was $24.95 as well. The regular price for chicken curry is $20.95. I asked about a nonalcoholic drink called the mango lassi and what that was has it states it comes with yogurt. The waiter said it is like a smoothie made with yogurt so we decided to try that my son wanted strawberry lassi, but they didn't have any fresh strawberries on hand so he went for the mango as well. These ran $7.50 apiece. They do have other sodas that you can also choose from. I will upload copies of the menu, etc.. OK, our meals were delicious. Very very flavorful. They give you plates and utensils with napkins when you sit down and then the dish comes out in a metal bowl with a ceramic bowl of rice to share. The lassi was room temperature not cold and taste it to me like melted. Yo yogurt mango flavored. For me, I could only do so much because I'm not a milk drinker and it tasted too milky for me and being room temperature didn't help so I had to chase it with water. I drank almost half as the taste was OK my son enjoyed it a lot and so he finished his and mine. So on that, it's to each their own. The waiter was very attentive as I stated before and checked on us multiple times asking if we needed more rice in the end we did not both got very full off the meal that we had scooping rice into your plate and then your dish on top of the rice I guess is the way they would expect you to eat it and that's what we did. But I guess it would be OK just to dump your rice into your dish and forgo the plate altogether! Lol if that's your jam! The entire experience cost $64.90. They will come out with your ticket and the credit card contraption for you to choose your tip or do a custom tip and pay for your meal with credit card. Will definitely come back here. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that caters to dietary allergies and make it real simple because in 2026 a restaurant is without excuse because the ingredients are in the stores just go by them.

Starting out dipping veggie Samosas in mint sauce or red sauce( I don't remember the name) was a scrumptious beginning to a tasty meal. Hubby ordered a rice pilaus-chicken biryani. All partnered well with a piping hot cup of milky tea. Music was a fun Indian rap like background with plenty of nice pictures to create an eastern atmosphere. Prices were reasonable and we parked right outside the front door. After sharing a dessert of mango ice cream we were both feeling warm and happy in a food coma. There is an extensive online menu and take out orders seemed popular throughout our visit. . If you're looking for a delicious meal and a place to go on a cold winter's night, head here.

Count us in! Arriving for a weekday dinner, the place seemed to have a decent number of customers, with most people getting rice bowls. We opted for one sandwich to share, since we were not that hungry, and we had read that one sandwich was big enough for two. We ordered at the counter, sat down, and our food soon arrived. Shapta Sandwich, Full ($12.99) - Since we only ordered a single sandwich, the cashier offered to cut the sandwich in half for us. We didn't expect them to actually serve it on two separate baskets, making it much more convenient for us to eat. The sandwich starts with a turmeric enhanced, yellowed colored baguette. The turmeric seems to mostly be for color, as the bun tastes closer to typical home baked buns. It's not really toasted all that much, so it's soft and fluffy. The bun is filled to the brim with tons of cubed and stir-fried pork. It's super tender, like it had been braised for hours before the frying. The pork is topped with lettuce and tomato, giving a bit of a crisp for textural contrast, and then with mayo and whole grain mustard for additional moisture and flavor. The major problem with this sandwich is the construction - since everything in the sandwich is chopped into small pieces, and the bun is so soft, all the ingredients essentially slip out while eating. It's very difficult to eat - something like 3/4 of the ingredients ended up on the basket after finishing, meaning I needed a fork to finish the dish! (4/5) People certainly aren't lying about the size of the sandwiches. Both of us were very full, bordering on bloated, after finishing our sandwich halves! I have to say, while tasty, I probably wouldn't get the sandwich again. It's just way too messy to eat. I think everyone else in the restaurant had the correct idea to get the rice bowls. I ended up having to fork 3/4 of the dish anyways, so might as well get it on rice! Bathrooms - Two rooms, one for each gender.
