Paneer & vindaloo

Just arrived in town from a cruise ship, and my sister (now an Alaskan) recommended Yak & Yeti for lunch. All the food we ordered was fresh, scratch made, and so yummy! My son wanted one of their 'moreos' giant versions of O*eo sandwich cookies, and he loved it! We had 12 in our group, all with different preferences for protein, spice, and dairy. All of us were happy with our choices and the price points for the quality & quantity of food was very generous. The waitstaff are laidback and friendly, and we really enjoyed ourselves. I live in KS so am not sure when/if I'll be back in Anchorage, but if that day comes, you'll find me at Yak & Yeti!

We visited Yak & Yeti for a weekday dinner after our first two choices were both closed. Looking for an alternative, we came across Yak & Yeti, which seemed to serve some very interesting looking sandwiches, and according to reviews, serves delicious food in huge portions. Count us in! Arriving for a weekday dinner, the place seemed to have a decent number of customers, with most people getting rice bowls. We opted for one sandwich to share, since we were not that hungry, and we had read that one sandwich was big enough for two. We ordered at the counter, sat down, and our food soon arrived. Shapta Sandwich, Full ($12.99) - Since we only ordered a single sandwich, the cashier offered to cut the sandwich in half for us. We didn't expect them to actually serve it on two separate baskets, making it much more convenient for us to eat. The sandwich starts with a turmeric enhanced, yellowed colored baguette. The turmeric seems to mostly be for color, as the bun tastes closer to typical home baked buns. It's not really toasted all that much, so it's soft and fluffy. The bun is filled to the brim with tons of cubed and stir-fried pork. It's super tender, like it had been braised for hours before the frying. The pork is topped with lettuce and tomato, giving a bit of a crisp for textural contrast, and then with mayo and whole grain mustard for additional moisture and flavor. The major problem with this sandwich is the construction - since everything in the sandwich is chopped into small pieces, and the bun is so soft, all the ingredients essentially slip out while eating. It's very difficult to eat - something like 3/4 of the ingredients ended up on the basket after finishing, meaning I needed a fork to finish the dish! (4/5) People certainly aren't lying about the size of the sandwiches. Both of us were very full, bordering on bloated, after finishing our sandwich halves! I have to say, while tasty, I probably wouldn't get the sandwich again. It's just way too messy to eat. I think everyone else in the restaurant had the correct idea to get the rice bowls. I ended up having to fork 3/4 of the dish anyways, so might as well get it on rice! Bathrooms - Two rooms, one for each gender.

Delicious! Got the shapta, which I've never tried before. It was huge!! We also got the potato leek soup which I loved. There was a lot of flavor. We had to try the guava cheesecake icecream which was incredible. I wish I could take this icecream home!

Simple and cozy place with delicious comfort food which is also well priced. I got a rice bowl with 3 curries. All the 3 curries were delicious. It was a good portion size and quick service. Highly recommend.

Was pleasantly surprised by this place! The portion size is great for the price. Love that you can choose different proteins to your rice bowl to customize it however you want. There's a lot of flavor. I will say the chicken tikka masala does not quite taste like chicken tikka masala; it's not bad, but don't get it if you're craving true chicken tikka masala. My favorite was the Chana masala.

Counter service casual spot with good food for a cheap price. There was a big line when we first arrived around 6PM but we didn't have to wait long for our food. We tried the chicken gyro and rice bowl with pork vindaloo and shapta and they were both good. They also have a case of baked good and sell packaged local homemade ice cream. We tried "dragon tail" cookie and the guava cheesecake ice cream and both were truly exceptional and unique finds for Anchorage.

Rice combo bowls w/ sides of bread (delivery order)

Super flavorful & filling bang for your buck options here. These warm rice bowls of pure goodness hit the spot when in winter and travel well! We ordered a couple of combo half and half options to deliver to a hotel we were staying at nearby and they were superb! The aroma coming from the bag ensured our delivery order didn't make it past the lobby :-) Already talking about when we're going to be in Anchorage again so we can try more of the menu.

Chicken tikka masala and pork vindaloo rice bowl

Employees were very kind and service was quick. It got a little busy while there but overall it was relatively quiet inside. Everyone liked their food. People who got meat said it was very tender. I could use a bit more spice but the mild level probably sure more pallets.

They're are definitely better options in Anchorage... the chicken tikka masala is flavorless. The food is mid, I don't think I'll be back.

Delicious, speedy service, and pretty cheap! Kind of moody interior, but in a moody coffee shop kind of way.

The food is a better value at this location, but it isn't nearly as nice inside as the cafe. It's very cramped and dated looking. Their parking lot was full, so I parked across the street and prayed I wouldn't get towed. The food was good, but nothing special. My samosas were tasty, but way bigger than they needed to be for an app. By the time my food came, I was too full to really enjoy it. I got the dal, which was very runny. It had more delicately flavored than I was expecting as well. Not exciting. At all Service was excellent, which is the only reason for 3 stars. Food was unmemorable. My family and I came here twice during our trip to Anchorage since they have reliably good food at a great value. I got to try their Himalayan chicken, Palak Paneer, Chicken Achari, and Lhasa Momos. The flavor of everything is great, and the family favorite for us was the Palak Paneer. So much flavor and super rich. The flavors of the Achari and Himalayan chicken were good too, although the chicken was a little dry. The Lhasa Momos were delicious as well (and each dumpling is pretty big). We placed orders for takeout and everything is ready pretty quickly!! With super friendly service too. Parking situation: on-site

A Culinary Delight at Everest…read more Located on Old Seward Highway, Everest stands out as a beacon for lovers of Indian cuisine. As soon as you step inside, you're enveloped in an ambiance that exudes warmth and authenticity, accentuated by traditional décor and soothing music. The waitstaff was impeccably dressed, inviting, and friendly. The menu is a delightful journey through India's diverse tapestry of flavors, and a buffet is available during the week. From the moment we took our first bite of the food, the rich spices and freshly grilled notes were simply mesmerizing. The butter chicken was a showcase of culinary mastery -- tender chicken in a creamy, tomato-based sauce that was perfectly balanced. The garlic naan bread was so delicious, we ordered a second basket! For those seeking something unique, the lamb biryani was an absolute revelation. Aromatic basmati rice layered with succulent lamb, enriched with saffron, was the star of the evening. Every dish is crafted with such care that it tells a story of tradition and passion. What truly sets Everest apart, however, is its impeccable service. The staff is welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely eager to enhance your dining experience. They guided us through the menu perfectly, offering thoughtful recommendations and ensuring that our glasses were never empty. In a world where dining out is often about convenience, Everest restores the joy of eating out with its exquisite food, charming atmosphere, and attentive service, while still catering to those seeking a quick meal by having a drive through. Starting out dipping veggie Samosas in mint sauce or red sauce( I don't remember the name) was a scrumptious beginning to a tasty meal. Hubby ordered a rice pilaus-chicken biryani.
