I had a deep tissue massage with Mike here recently and really enjoyed it. I checked in and was escorted to the locker room. I changed into my robe and went into the relaxation room to wait for my massage. The room is nicely decorated with candles and water flowing. The massage room actually overlooked the ocean so it was a nice view for the few minutes I was not on the table. The massage itself was very nice. Not too strong but just strong enough how I like it. The therapist asked several times if I liked the pressure and if I was comfortable. Definitely a nice massage. Mike did a good job of keeping me covered at all times. Its always a bit stressful when you have a male therapist but he did a really good job. I am not one for sauna and steam rooms so I just took a shower after my massage. Self care is health care. One should always invest in rest and book a massage here. While some of the services were not available per the state vaccine mandate, the spa is beautiful and services are worth every penny. Note, you must show your vaccine card and get your temperature checked upon arrival. This is appointment only so make sure you have reservations. Love the products available and the coconut oil used is not overpowering or too oily. Steam rooms were not open but showers were open to guests after getting their massage. The spa is however very peaceful and immaculate. We booked the 80 minute deep tissue Lomi Lomi massages and couldn't ask for a better service. Major props to masseuses Brilyn, Ora, Hannah and Lauri. All were wonderfully talented and skilled. Went in sore and tight from workouts and left there as a little zen noodle. They are not offering couples massage at this time but you may end up in one of the rooms which offers the ocean backdrop. Sometimes being on energy saving mode is good for the soul. Wish I could rate 0 stars or negative. Came to get two very simple and things: an upper lip wax and a polish change. This combine was 100 dollars which is absurd for the quality I received. To start, the wax was SUPER hot and I told the woman several times and she never fixed it. The lady was just super unfriendly and lethargic in general. She also didn't get all the hair which was really stupid, because what did I pay for then? Basically spent 50 bucks for some idiot to place burning wax on my face. I could have waxed better for less than a quarter of the price. For the polish change I was told ahead she could do french tips which is standard for any salon. Nails looked like she literally took whiteout and painted sloppy lines at the tips. None of the lines were even or cleaned up at all. She also did a terrible job filling my nails. For a polish change only NOT EVEN A MANICURE it was incredibly expensive. The spa also added an extra 15 dollars for the "french tips" (if you can call them that) which I also wasn't told they would do. I already paid for a polish change so I thought french tips counts as that. For two very poorly done services it was 100 bucks. The biggest issue is that the spa offers these services and claims they can do it well. DONT put "polish change" on the services if you can't do it. DONT put "lip wax" on the services if you can't do it. I would rather them been honest and say they can't do a french well. Would have saved me the headache but nope they want money at the expense of not being able to deliver quality products. read more

Visited the spa during my first stay at the Wailea Marriott during COVID. The facility is sparkling clean, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They take ever precaution and you will have full confidence in the sterilization of the facility. I had a stupendous 80 min deep Lomi Lomi massage and citrus body scrub with Lory. Lory is everything you want in a massage therapist! She is talented/skilled as hell, hits all the spots you knew you needed and many you didn't, and is attentive/knowledgeable to what will make the massage a relaxing and tension relieving experience. You will be in a state of heaven upon leaving your treatment. I cannot recommend her or the Lomi Lomi massage enough. The massage itself is with broad strokes and pressure points to relieve tension. It's my new favorite massage!! She used a selection of essential oils to experience during the massage to heighten the experience. I have some injuries and stress related tension and they were gone when I left! Only advice is add the add on for 30 min longer if you are in major need of a reset. I visited the Mandara Spa for a Mandara Ritual for the Hands & Feet & it was definitely not worth the money. While the manicurist was friendly, I found the service to be completely sub par. I received a pedicure & a gel manicure & my nails are a bit uneven in shape & the paint does not fill the entire nail, some nails not having color reach the sides at all. The gel manicure, which in my experience last a couple weeks typically, started to chip 2 days after the service. Additionally, after receiving my pedicure my nails were obviously wet so I was told to not put my shoes on but I was not given any alternative & made to walk & be barefoot in the salon while getting my manicure which was a bit odd to me. I emailed them my concerns about the service & they never responded back. Definitely other spas in the area that are better to spend your money at. read more

I hate giving them a low-rating because the staff was sweet, but the mani/pedi was just TOO expensive ($115 plus tax plus tip). I get we are paying for the convenience of not leaving, but the final product wasn't even close to being worth it. Couples Massage: Pros: massage therapists really listened to complaints as to the particular areas we wanted worked on. The room was clean, inviting, and mostly relaxing. I'm allergic to many lotions and scents, so I appreciated they asking if I wanted unscented lotion used. Cons: they kept the window blinds open during the massage, so it wasn't dark. I have always had massages with the windows closed, so its dark inside, and thus easier to fall asleep and totally relax. There also was a loud leaf blower right outside the window during our massages, which was kinda distracting. The spa also did not have a hot tub to soak in pre-massage, which always is a touch I like as part of the spa experience. My boyfriend and I had vastly different experiences. BF had a great relaxing massage and enjoyed it, probably because his masseuse actually knew how to do lomilomi. I had a masseuse who seemed rushed and treated me like I was an inconvenience. She asked if I was there for a Swedish massage, and I responded no. She said I must have changed the reservation. Once the massage started, it felt like she was pounding away at my tendons, and not even doing the slow relaxing strokes that lomilomi is known for. I told her once that it was too rough and she only lightened up on the pressure for a couple of minutes. Also, she was going really fast. How is that relaxing?? You can valet but Mandara Spa only validates(?) for self-parking so it ends up being like $40 ($35+tip) to do so. Want to save $? Self-park! (Or, grab a drink at one of Wailea Beach Resort's bars and get validated that way!) The facilities are nice...but nothing spectacular compared to the high end spas right next door from them like the Four Seasons one or the venerable Grand Wailea one. Steam room and showers, the standard relaxation lounge. Mandara Spa recommends you check in at least 30 minutes prior to your treatment time but if you're not planning on sitting in the steam room or showering, just go at least 15 minutes before and you should be fine. - Massage: Good, not spectacular. - Facilities: Average, not spectacular. No plunge pools or soaking tubs. - Service: This is really where Mandara Spa COULD have made their spa stand out from the rest but unfortunately, they failed on every single aspect. Booking Error???? The receptionists and massage therapists are busy blaming each other....WHILE the spa guests are uncomfortably standing around, wondering what is going on. How about Mandara Spa avoid this whole scenario by confirming with the guests UPON CHECKING IN what services they are booked for?? My husband and I decided to pamper ourselves and had two couples massages while we were at the Marriot Resort in Maui. Good- The minute you walk into the spa you are warmly greeted by the reception staff. They take you to your respective lounges and show you where to store your things. There is a quiet zen room, a steam room, and nice showering area. Nothing too fancy - just what you would expect at a nice spa. Hands down Nancy and Chris are incredible!!!! Pun intended... I had Nancy and my husband who likes his therapists to spare no strength on his aching back said Chris was exactly what he needed to work out the kinks. Bad- Not all therapists are created equal. We decided after such a great first experience to end our vacation with another round of massages before boarding our night flight home. Great idea... you would think it would be relaxing but ...oh no... neither of us enjoyed the second round. Suffice to say our second time in the spa was not quite up to par and left us wondering why we couldn't have Nancy and Chris again. This review will focus on how the spa is managed. We availed of three see gives through the Groupon offer: $99 for $200 of services. First of all, this place runs a very unscrupulous marketing. Most of the services are only about $150-$175 on average which means you will either lose part of the Groupon value or if you upgrade and add more services - you will pay exorbitant amounts. My wife and I were also told that the couples services were not eligible for the groupon even though THERE IS NO WRITTEN rules about it. In the end I had to use one groupon for one service and pay the retail cost for my wife. Terrible experience from the beginning because they had shady rules and they made using the groupon a difficult experience. Don't buy he Groupons for this place - you will just be frustrated. I suggest looking into other spas and their specials. I wanted the 80 minute massage for the couples massage and they gave us only 50 minutes. Same thing happened for the second groupon for my mom - told them we wanted 80 minutes and they only have her about 60 minutes worth of massage. I mean ripping you off for time you pay is just unacceptable when it comes to spa services. The massage itself is performed well but the management of the spa and its administrators leave you thinking they are all about getting you to pay much more and Not about gaining your future business. Overall the Automatic 20% gratuity which is added to your bill NO Matter what you get and no matter how dissatisfied you are makes you feel like you have no choice in. I stay at Marriott properties when I travel for work, so I was able to reward myself and my fiance with a trip to Maui (Wailea) this past week on my points. With that said (being that I am a loyal Marriott customer) this was probably the sole motivating factor for deciding to choose this Spa. For us, it was really convenient to have this option on our property and also the money I was spending here was going towards future points. Comparing dollar for dollar however, you are far better off spending your money at the Grande Wailea (Spa Grande). The amenities even before the massage outweigh the ones offered at Mandara, and in the end, my Spa experience at the Grande was CHEAPER than Mandara. I did an 80 minute Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage at both locations for comparison. Mandara only has a steam room and basic showers as the additional amenities. Spa Grande has 5 soaking tubs with different treatments, a large jacuzzi tub, a cold soaking tub, a personal loofah treatment, steam room, sauna, 3 different types of showers...etc.etc..and we haven't even got to the massage yet. Some notable negatives from the Mandara spa experience were 2 fold. First, the treatment room was brightly light (with natural light) and stays that way throughout the entire treatment. Most spas I have been to often dim the lights to set a relaxing mood and I prefer it. Second, the room itself shares a wall with the outside Marriott property, so you can hear ambient noises and distant conversations throughout the experience. Massage wise, the experience at Mandara versus Spa Grande were comparable, with an edge to Spa Grande. I think technique wise, my therapist was a bit more fluid in her movements and really zoned in on the sore spots in comparison to the Mandara masseuse who seemed to just be going throughout the motions. In short, if you are going to splurge on the ultimate spa experience in Hawaii and especially in the Wailea area, you are definitely better off doing it at the Spa Grande. To offer more services and still be cheaper was a shocker. Skip the Mandara Spa at the Marriott. read more

NO SHE DID NOT. Lets face it Mandara- the facilities are kinda shit upstairs. Backstory: A massage- just a 50 minute lomi lomi massage (which I'm not even sure was a lomi lomi because Sara was doing such a great job I just customized it and had her focus on my back) is a whopping $182.20 with taxes and the 20% gratuity that is added in lieu of tip. YES. The 20% was bullshit when I first saw it. YES. It would've still been bullshit had Sara not rocked my world. Sara made the 20% for me worth it. I also got my $145 dollars worth by going to the spa facilities early and chillin for a while to make sure I felt satisfied with my money spent. It has a nice locker room with the basics you might see at a bar bathroom in Vegas: Shower caps, combs, dob razors, tampons, pads, spa underwear that looked really weird on the model they show on the packaging, toothbrushes, and various spray stuff in the form of deodorant and hairspray. The hot tub was one of those home hot tubs you buy for the back yard; it looked like it once had a cool spa with a fountain coming from the wall but it probably broke down- the place looks pretty decrepit upon closer inspection e.g. paint peeling from the wall, weird staining on the wood inside the sauna. Also, pigeons poop daily on the deck where the wicker chairs are, and the view is of a parking lot. The facilities stay REALLY brightly lit which takes away from the relaxing vibe. you'd want from a spa. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone really. It's just sub par for what I expected. No champagne, no cool exotic things to try in the showers, just meh. If I could give 5 stars it would be to Sara, but unfortunately the spa just gets 3. THAT'S GENEROUS. In order to feel like you didn't get swindled, make sure you take "one of each" meaning get yo self free stuff! Grab a piece of fruit on your way out too! Apples, Pears, and Oranges. Make sure you get some tea, water, etc before you leave. They gave me a day pass for the next day too, which is sweet, but I don't really need to go again because I spent over 3 hours there. Nice gesture though. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THEM CHARGE IT TO YOUR ROOM! That way you get the HH honors rewards on your card. Regarding booking appointments, I left several messages, none were returned. I was only able to make an appointment by walking in. The facilities are very uninspiring. The steam room was not hot enough, the seating uncomfortable. There are no mineral pools, etc. The relaxation room has 6 uncomfortable chairs. The space needs an update. Tea was offered in disposable Styrofoam cups. Would it be that difficult to offer mugs, or at least something compostable. No organic products. No local products. I received a facial. The esthetician seemed as though she did not like her job. The scalp massage was ineffective, too little pressure, as was the massage/application of products. Extractions were painful. Her review of my skin needs was delivered apathetically. The towels applied to the face during the treatment smelled like bleach. Disgusting. Automatic 20% gratuity added makes you wonder if they will try since they don't have to earn a tip, but in a quality resort you get quality therapists. Only draw back is limited spa facilities. Next door at the Grand Wailea, a comparably priced spa, there are a variety of salt pools, specialty showers, jacuzzis, and a salt rub comes with your service. On our last trip to Maui I got a gift card to use at Mandara - which was located at our hotel. We opted for the couple's massage and each of us got the Lomi Lomi. The names of the massages are different - but the receptionist told me the massage was more pressure than a Swedish but not as harsh as a deep-tissue. Sounded like a winner. The room they use for couple's is amazing! It's a corner room with wide windows that overlook the pool/beach. The entire spa is gorgeous and you feel relaxed from the moment you walk in the door. So why the 3-Stars? The massage was one of the worst I've ever experienced! The massage started off "really" soft. It almost felt as if she was just rubbing lotion on me. When I heard the other therapist ask my husband about his pressure - my therapist then asked me "How's your pressure". I politely asked her if she could add more pressure and her response was "This is the normal pressure of a Lomi Lomi". Ummm, ok - then why did you ask me?!? She immediately went from a rub down to an intense deep tissue massage. Hands down this was one of the worst (most expensive) massages I've ever had. Another down side is that 20% gratuity is automatically added to the price. No matter how good (or bad) your therapist is, they still get 20%. If you're looking for a relaxing experience, don't come here. Just so you know we had 6 reservations for myself and my wife to get services. We were eagerly willing to spend over a $1,000 on spa services on our vacation on Maui. We tried to set up appointments online, the system does not allow you to add a second guest to your itinerary (or we couldn't find the option). We wanted to go together, so we called the reservation line. Turns out they set up our appointments at it's sister spa on the big island. We arrived at our first reservation finding we were booked at the wrong property. They set us up with a new appointment the next day (the only day they said they had two appointments together on). We show up at 3:00 as the desk staff told us would be our appointment time. Come to find out they set it up for a different day than discussed. By this time we were done making sure we are back in time for our non existent appointments two days in a row. The manager said let me see what i can do, we told her no thank you we have had enough frustration. But I would try to make it complimentary, no amount of money can make up for horrible service, we will never know what the inside of spa looks like. We will be sure to let the Marriott know we will not be returning to this resort until the spa facility have changed to a more reliable vendor. $20k room reservations will be made elsewhere next time. GF booked a spa treatment here, so I scrambled to get a room at the Marriott Wailea, rental car, and flights from Oahu... Slightly backwards from typical vacation planning, but I'm glad we did it! The package was for a Balinese body polish and a 50-minute lomi lomi massage. In the men's spa area, amenities were nice, but there was no whirpool or sauna. They did have a steamroom though that works up pretty quickly. There was also a nice touch with a little waterfall in the lounge area while the massage rooms are prepped. Most of the other stuff has been covered pretty well. The body polish was the first I'd had of the type and I chose the coffee variety (they let you look at samples and pick your scrub and massage oil). It exfoliated pretty well and it cleaned up the dry skin on my elbows really well. If you're splurging, it's worth it, but if you're there for a budget pampering, the massage alone is awesome. So I was skeptical of lomi lomi, as I'm more of a deep tissue guy. My therapist's name was Mike, and I would highly recommend him for anyone with knots, muscle spasms, or whatever that needs to get worked out. He was very attentive to the areas where I was experiencing muscle pain and told him about my bad posture and desk job... After working everything out, he showed me some stretches and tennis/golf ball massage techniques that you can do at home to get some relief. He's an avid runner and knows a lot about the area if you'd like to keep the massage conversational. Overall, the spa here is run very professionally and my therapist was top-notch. I'll be returning my next Maui trip even if I don't stay at the Marriott. read more

I am not a massage aficionado, but I am an expert at what feels good. The loma loma message was fantastic. It was expensive, but it's Hawaii... Everything seems expensive. I paid $150 for a 50 minute message, plus an automatic 20% gratuity. I am convinced that I need to do this more often. After my message I sat in the steam room for about 20 minutes. I could barely see 2 feet in front of my face, not a bad thing at all. It had the smell of lavender and was very relaxing. We scheduled a couples massage as we were staying in the hotel. Big mistake! We checked in 30 minutes before and were shown to the locker rooms and I was told to be near the door at 4 because my therapist was a woman and would not come in. Only problem was, no clocks in there at all and I put my phone in my locker. "Relaxation lounge" was way too loud with the waterfall. I only steamed for a few minutes due to not wanting to miss my therapist. Not relaxing! We were escorted to our room in the corner of the building. Lots of bright windows and overlooked the noisy main pool. Really! Not relaxing! Massage was good and I like the scented oil in the bowl to smell. That was pretty cool. After the massage we were told to meet them outside the room. Uhm, what about taking a shower together in the shower in the room...... No, off to the locker room for more solo time. She did my nails a couple days in advance and it looked perfect for the wedding. In fact, it lasted about a week - which is awesome considering we were out and about for the remainder of the trip. I expect spa services at resorts to be pricey, so there were no surprises....Here's a tip - the hotel charges for parking (I stayed at the Hilton) - so we parked at the King's Shops and walked over. read more

Visited the spa several times during my stay at the Wailea Beach resort Marriott. Excellent therapists on staff and looks as though the spa recently was renovated and is nice and convenient. Not a fan of the required 20% gratuity fee, as I would have preferred to determine the amount of the tip, and probably hurt the therapist's actual take home amount. The men's locker/steam/relaxation rooms were smaller but adequate. They could use more frequent cleaning and check-ups. Maybe more snack/drink options. Spa service prices are somewhat higher than other options, but not unreasonable. read more

talk about breaking the bank!!! if you have some extra cash to spend on a spa... come here! While in Maui, for my friend's bday we had to get massaged. Somehow, we ended up here. Great experience, but for a pretty penny. The facility and it's amenities were wonderful. The staff was super friendly and nice - definitely more than willing to cater to your needs. They had a steam sauna which also had two shower heads, multiple private showers, and a room where you could sit and just be "quiet", or meditate in, or just relax and read a magazine. This room played relaxing music and there was also a fountain... hearing the waterfall just added to the relaxing atmosphere. You were basically allowed to spend the whole day there to enjoy all that they had to offer. Their esthetician services are definitely thorough. The woman took so much time waxing me and getting every little hair, i was starting to get antsy!!! If in Maui and want to get massaged, look up Mandara Spa - it will not disappoint! read more

My husband purchased a TravelZoo package for our anniversary that included a 50 minute massage, body scrub and scalp treatment. Upon first entering the Mandara Spa, I was greeted by a receptionist with a rather chilly demeanor. She kind of acted like she couldn't be bothered. She directed me to a table where I could choose the type of scrub I wanted. After picking my scrub she escorted me and another person to the ladies' locker room to show us around. After changing I waited in the relaxation room which was very nice. One entire wall was a rock waterfall and the room was dimly lit. The only refreshment available was the typical spa water enhanced with various citrus fruit slices. The massage lady "Bheng" was very pleasant and she greeted me with a warm smile. Throughout the treatment she offered conversation but only when I initiated it. Otherwise she was quiet and allowed me to enjoy the treatment. The 50 minute Swedish massage was outstanding and the scrub and scalp treatment were good but could have done without them. The treatment room was very clean, nice and modernized. After the treatments I took a shower and used the steam room. The steam room worked well but over all the spa facilities were sub standard in my opinion and desperately need updating. There was a broken lock in one of the bathroom stalls and the showers were a bit ghetto and outdated. The products available for use in the locker room (shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer etc.) were very average and comparable to the local gym. I also found the layout of the locker room rather odd and the actual locker/changing area offered very little privacy since it was situated just inside the main entrance. The spa staff uses the same locker and restroom facilities which I found to be kind of awkward. After using the steam room and getting dressed, I left immediately as there was really no place else to hang out and have a spa experience. This spa is really just about the treatment as there are minimal spa amenities. If you are looking for a typical "spa day" and want to hang out for a while, I would go to Spa Grande instead. Upon check out, I went up to the desk to pay and there was another receptionist there who was just plain rude. She asked me to wait a moment in a rude manner. I felt like she was annoyed at having to help me and sat down to wait for her to be ready. There are just nicer ways to tell someone you will be right with them. She was anything but friendly. She strangely told me about some products that were on sale on a shelf by the exit and I almost felt obligated to go look at them even though I was not interested. She asked me if I was interested in purchasing anything. I would think this would be pretty obvious if I didn't bring any products to her attention. Again no smile...she was just eager to get me out of her hair. I was surprised at how rude this woman was and how chilly the first receptionist was. If I was the manager of this spa, I would fire them both and start all over again. This is Hawaii and I am a local...show a little Aloha ladies. If I could give Bheng 5 stars I would and she is the only reason this place got two stars instead of one. read more

Ahhh this was like a little trip to a relaxation paradise for two hours. The facilities are beautiful (gorgeous wood and tile and decor and furniture) and relaxing, and my husband's and my massage therapist was very intelligent and kind. We did a couples' massage - I did a pregnancy Elemis massage and he did the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage. Both were lovely and relaxing, but strong and worked through our muscles as well. I definitely recommend coming here for a massage - the therapists are educated and talented, as well as very attentive and sweet. Wonderful treatment. read more

Spa is very basic...not worth the $5 to use the amenities especially when you are already paying a daily resort fee.
