Instead of leaving a bad review I opted to call the restaurant to make them aware of our negative experience. I have been here previously and my experience was wonderful. My family and I decided to order to go this time and we were so displeased. The egg fu yung was full of more onions than egg, the shrimp fried rice had WAY less shrimp than previous ones and the combination platter was disappointing. Due to improper packaging, the prawns and egg rolls were soggy from the teriyaki sauce that was for another appetizer. I forgot the name of the young man I spoke with when I called (2/21 @ 6:06pm), but he was rude and condescending. I no longer live in Macon but my family and friends do. I have and will continue to share this negative experience with them. Getting bad food is understandable, maybe it was an off day. I did not call to request a refund, I was merely calling to express concern. Being rude and nonchalant is not the way to retain customers. Do better Mandarin Garden! read more

And we ordered fried rice and got white rice with 6 peas in it. When we asked about it she lied and said it was fried rice but without soy sauce. One of my favorite Chinese restaurants when I can convince the rest of my family to eat here. I wish I could give 5 stars and can't bring myself to giving 3 stars because the food is good, service and portions are fine, but cleanliness is too important. Interior needs a good cleaning, and especially the exterior needs maintenance and upkeep. Until then, I'll have to keep making my wife and kids eat here on birthday and Father's Day only. I hope to change this to 5 stars when the owners invest in some exterior maintenance and a deep cleaning. read more

This place is nostalgic...regardless of the quality of the food and service...The inside is a throw back to the elaborately decorated Chinese restaurants of yesteryears. Vintage place mats and Chinese hot mustard on the table! Service- To ME the service was to the point and short-just like most places are in Chamblee/Doraville. I didn't find anyone particularly rude, but they weren't overly nice either. I feel like they are focused on taking orders and shuffling people through and out. These Aunties don't have the time. Food: It was decent. I really wouldn't call it authentic, sauces were on the sweeter side and there is zero heat in their Sichuan dishes...even after saying I like heat so spicy is fine. Everything came out hot and perfectly cooked though. The steamed rice....I'm not sure how I felt about it. I wasn't expecting the veggies/egg. The egg roll and chicken wing...why? We ate them, but they were from a freezer bag and seemed kinda pointless. Maybe people around Macon expect them? Hot tea was as dark as regular tea. I don't think I've ever been served Oolong tea that was this dark. It tasted alright. Hot and Sour soup was pretty good...it had tofu/fungus/carrots/eggs and wasn't just pre-made soup base...the crispies were stale as crap though! All and all it was a good meal. We will be back for dinner to see what their expanded dinner menu consists of...and also I'm going to see if they have a "hidden" menu. Only knock I have about the place...the tile floor is really sticky...like my shoe stuck and my foot lifted out kinda sticky. read more

I stopped by for takeout because I'd seen the restaurant featured on the local news the last time I was in Macon. I should have left when I saw the slow service with only 3 customers. I convinced myself that it was family owned and worth the wait. It was not. Very bland Shrimp with Lobster Sauce and Spring Rolls so greasy that they were inedible. The steamed rice already had peas and carrots so it must be an ever ready base for fried rice too. Adding it to the entree showed how lazy is this kitchen because the peas from the entree were a different color than the peas in the rice. Entree had bright green peas that were actually undercooked. The rice (I mean rice and peas.) had seen better days. Maybe this used to be a great dining experience but I've had better store bought frozen Chinese food for much cheaper so I will choose that given the option between the two. read more

Is there a way I can give this place NO STARS?!! Horrible service. I came in and waited for 15 minutes before someone took my order. They brought out my soup but never brought out my sweet tea. I ordered and waited almost an hour before asking about my food.... to be told that they haven't even started my order. There were 3 other individuals that came in at the same time that I did and requested a table for 1, just as I did. They all received service and food. My wife called in my order, so I would have something to eat at work. She ordered a Large Triple Mongolian with Lo Mein, instead of rice. Eight Fried Wontons, Sizzling Rice Soup for two and a Large Half and Half Tea. The Triple Mongolian was extremely small and looked (old) gross. The Lo Mein looked like it was cooked yesterday. There was no filling (cream cheese) in the Fried Wontons. They were severely overcooked. The lid did not fit the Styrofoam cup and cup on the tea properly, so it came off and spilled all over my driver seat. I have been eating here for years, but this place is a disaster now. I am making a Better Business Complaint and want my money back. I won't come back here again. read more

Sometimes, it does take a bit for them to come to the front to seat you... they are busy doing tons of take out orders! With that said, you can certainly get CHEAP wannabe ASIAN staples elsewhere, but it isn't AUTHENTIC whatsoever. Frozen egg rolls, sugar filled sauce covered dishes, and those yummy fried wings... yep, your taste buds can be satisfied elsewhere (or with their lunch time take out.) This is one of the few that does dishes clean, fresh, from scratch. Want it extra spicy or not sweet? They will accommodate and do it ever so nicely! I have had dishes I didn't care for here, the main one being their appetizer ribs... super fatty and almost inedible. Take out dishes for lunch are usually subpar compared to dine in. Cons: take out is different (lower quality.) No dessert options. (Their cake that you do get at dinner service is phenomenal, but I wish they had items you can actually order.) Pros: dishes are made from scratch. Dishes are well portioned for dinner service. You can usually share or have another meal the next day. You know that feeling you get when everyone is town recommends this place as the best Chinese food in town? Well, that's the feeling we got... but what we actually got? Let's start from the beginning. This place is off Riverside where plenty of other businesses are. So, great location. As soon as you open the first set of doors, it smelled like that old carpet smell... but we still decided to venture in. The decor is typical of what a sitdown Chinese restaurant would look like. We are greeted as we walk in and sat down at a 6-person table (theres only two of us). The service was great at this place! We ordered egg drop soup for two, butterfly shrimp, and general tso chicken, which I thought would be a safe bet. You get a small salad with ginger dressing on top. Which I thought was nice. The ginger dressing was good, but that watered down as most. The eggdrop soup came out and it was a healthy portion of soup. With a little hot of salt and pepper, the flavor really came out. Here's the bad part... and oh man is it bad. Our entrees came out. As they were placing the butterfly shrimp in front of us, both my wife and I looked at each other because we had never seen anything like it before. The shrimp was heavily breaded, onions with peanuts placed in the middle. The general tso chicken... didn't look much like chicken at all. Both entrees came with a big bowl of fried rice, which we thought was ok. We tried the butterfly shrimp and the only thing you could taste was this massive amount of batter... which by the way didn't taste like much. The general tso chicken didn't have much flavor at all, which I found odd because it had so many peppers and sauce. We will probably try this place again just because the service was great. The food? Lacked a lot of flavor and a lot of depth as much as with other Chinese food places. However, if this is the best Chinese I'm town, we may be in trouble! read more

The lunch menu is a great deal- usually around $10 for soup, an entree, rice, eggroll, and a chicken wing! The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and has an authentic Chinese feel. So I have to say I was a little disappointed in this place. My husband had a craving for Chinese food, and being from Toronto, we are spoiled with amazing Chinese restaurants. Started out with one of those Japanese salads with the too sweet dressing on a bit of lettuce. It was a bit of a turn off cause I'm pretty sure they had been prepared hours earlier and they're all so sitting there waiting for customers. Plopped down in front of us as soon as we ordered. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls which were pretty much cabbage. The plum sauce is this chemical tasting stuff that's been sitting on the table with the soy sauce. I'm pretty sure it should refrigerated. Then we had the Dragon and Phoenix which was shrimp and very white chicken in a very pale sauce, with virtually no taste. Loaded it up with hot sauce and salt and pepper. Didn't really help. Came with a side of white rice with those frozen peas and carrots. I guess that's suppose to fancy it up. The wait staff were crazy attentive. I thought if one more person asks if we want our coke refilled I'm gonna lose it. I guess that's a good thing, its too bad the food was a sub par. read more

Beef teriyaki skewers to start. Teriyaki sauce was tasteless and the beef slices huge, thin, over cooked and tough. Dogs like them. I was worried. Next Mu-shu beef. Pretty good! We would eat that again. Beef with vegetables with no mushroom and no broccoli. I truly expected it to have tons of cabbage but surprisingly there were lots of carrots and zucchini's and it was good but a little bland. I wanted to like the food here so badly, but it was not good at all. The "crab angles" are their take on crab rangoons and they were stale and the cream cheese tasted oddly sweet/old. There was also no crab. The beef and vegetables entree had no flavor and the beef was poor quality. The vegetables were well cooked but again, no flavor. Same for the Kung pao chicken. Soggy pieces and no spice at all. I've never had to add soy sauce to a Chinese meal before, but I used every packet just to make it more palatable. The fried rice had hardly any vegetables and looked just a as white as the steamed rice. I'm only giving it two stars because it was hot and arrived quickly for a delivery. This location honestly has a beautiful interior. The carpet, the ceilings, the paintings all look beautiful. However, the food was pretty bad. For one I like herbal teas. Not your cheap gimmick chai tea that people get at Starbucks. I enjoy the real stuff; oolong, green, black teas all from Asian markets or nice dealers online. I have my own cast iron teapots for God sake. So when I ask for some hot tea at an oriental restaurant I expect at least a green tea. Nope, they literally gave me Lipton iced tea boiled and steaming in a pot. I even tasted my girlfriend's sweet tea. They were identical. When it got to the food the spring roll spelled spoiled or at least old. I ordered simple Teriyaki chicken. The chicken was slightly rubbery and the vegetables were a little bland. There was also a suspiciously thick and spiky hair in my sizzling rice soup, which immediately made me think "rodent." I contacted the manager, who promised to refund my money. After waiting some time without receiving my promised refund, I called again. This time, he was quite rude and dismissive, and said "I owe you nothing!" Rather than go make a scene at the restaurant, I contacted the delivery company to let them know, and then I contacted my bank, who I'm sure will handle it very well. I purchased a meal with fried rice from this restaurant on 9/19/19. After putting the rice on a plate, I found a whole bug mashed into a piece of egg in the rice. When I took the rice with bug back to the restaurant and showed the lady behind the counter, she told me it was seasoning... It clearly had legs! It was a WHOLE bug that was a completely different color (gray) from anything else in the container. I understand that foreign items sometimes accidentally end up in food. But don't insult my intelligence by trying to convince me that something that is clearly an insect is supposed to be in my food. NOT COOL! Own up to your mistake and try to remedy the situation. Don't deny the obvious. The lady gave me a refund AFTER trying to give me a new container of rice and I INSISTED on getting my money back. I won't be eating here again. read more
