My wife and I had dinner at Tokyo Alley on July 10, and it was a great experience from start to finish. I had eaten here a couple of times before, but it had been over 15 years, and this was my wife's first visit. We started with the crispy shrimp rolls and pork shumai, and both appetizers were fresh, flavorful, and the perfect way to begin our meal. For our entrées, my wife ordered the sesame chicken with fried rice and mixed vegetables, while I had the lemon chicken with the double noodle salad. Everything was cooked fresh, tasted amazing, and came out incredibly fast. The customer service was excellent. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit. Overall, this was an outstanding dining experience. Fresh food, fast service, good portion size, and excellent customer service. We'll definitely be back. 10/10! Tucked away in a alley off 2nd Street in downtown Macon. Tokyo Alley feels like one of those "if you know, you know" kind of spots. Thankfully, it's just a short stroll down the alley and you're greeted by a quaint exterior that already sets the tone. We were in the area on a Saturday night, and decided to give this place a try. The restaurant was packed. Inside, the ambiance is intimate and cozy, perfect for date night or a low-key evening out. Despite its small size, they've managed to make great use of the space and accommodate a solid crowd without it feeling overwhelming. We didn't make reservations, and although the wait wasn't bad at all, we decided to order to go instead. The woman at the front was friendly, professional, and kept things moving smoothly while a constant stream of customers walked in as others were checking out. The menu is refreshingly simple. We started with the crispy shrimp roll appetizer, which was a hit. The sauce it came with tasted house made and paired beautifully. For our entrées, we both went with the stir fried veggies with shrimp in garlic sauce. I got mine with noodles and fried rice, while my husband went all in with double rice. The portions were generous, and the veggies were fresh and cooked just right. The garlic sauce, it didn't quite hit the flavor note I was hoping for. And the fried rice? A bit on the bland side. However, the cold noodles that came with my dish was surprisingly tasty (think angel hair pasta tossed in a creamy sauce that somehow just works). Unexpected star of the show. Overall, the prices were reasonable, the portions were solid, and the customer service was great. While everything didn't completely wow me, there's definitely enough potential here to bring me back. We met friends at Tokyo Alley for a long overdue reunion. The ladies had been there many years ago, but it was the first time for the guys. Like others said, it's tucked away in the alley not facing the main streets, and that only adds to the quaint, cozy, comfortable environment. 2 had the Lemon Chicken, I had the Red Curry (Chicken), and my wife had the Rib Eye Steak. Everything was superb. I saw a review about the cold noodles being spaghetti noodles... Disregard that review. She has no clue! The noodles are ramen noodles, cool, and taste wonderful (new flavor to me). Speaking first-hand, I sampled the lemon chicken, and it was dynamite as many here say. But, the red curry chicken is also heavenly IF you like Thai red curry. Wife; being a big steak person from Texas loved her Rib Eye cooked rare. Everything was wonderful and for a price that doesn't break-the-bank. We'll be back; soon, and I'm a huge Thai fan and I've been jonesing for Thai. Finally got to come back after years. I would recommend placing a reservation, which was easy enough to do via call, since the restaurant is small and popular. I tried the sweet and hot chicken and loved it! Though my BIL got the Bangkok chicken which was also amazing. My mom got the lemon chicken, sister the red curry chicken, and father the shrimp pad thai. The pad Thai is not listed on their menu at the restaurant so you do have to ask for it. We all enjoyed our meals as well as trying each others. For appetizers egg drop soup was provided first. We ordered a serving of gyoza as well as a cheese roll for each of us. Highly recommend the cheese roll. It's delicious! Service was quick and attentive. Seating was also quick since we had placed our reservation. While the restaurant is small it doesn't feel crowded. Small menu with delicious options to choose from. Intimate dining space well decorated and well maintained. It was evident how fresh the veggie spring roll was tasting the flavors and texture, yum!! The shrimp rolls were perfectly fried with the most amazing dips included. The orange chicken looked like upscale chicken tenders and VERY good. The orange sauce was on the side. Small difficult to find restaurant with limited hours. We made a reservation and arrived around 5:06 after a local finally helped us locate the place. Then we stood waiting to be greeted and/or seated for another 8 minutes as several workers walked around the back and walked to the two tables that already had patrons. As I was getting ready to leave someone finally decided to greet and seat us. The menu is very limited with very few options. And it's missing many key Thai items. I decided upon the red curry with vegetables, it came with rice and cold noodles. The cold noodles were weird. They were cold spaghetti noodles with a white creamy slightly sweet sauce, they did not compliment the curry at all. The red curry itself was fine. I also ordered a spring roll as an appetizer. The food is so good we drove three hours (and escaped a natural disaster) just to eat here! I haven't been back in Macon at a time when they were open for the past two years, so it was a real treat to have their lemon chicken with chilled noodles. Absolutely delicious! My wife really enjoyed the orange chicken. The kitchen was quick and our waitress kept our drinks full. I walked into Tokyo Alley for the first time on one of the darkest days of my life. I'd been staying at the Medical Center with a loved one who was very sick and this was my first real meal in days. Everything from the service to the food was great. The chicken was so crispy and the noodle salad had a one-of-a-kind flavor that you don't forget. A woman who I believe was the owner had such a positive spirit and made me feel so welcome. The whole experience fed my soul at a very difficult time. We stopped by for lunch today as we were in the downtown area of Macon. It's a small restaurant open for lunch Mon-Fri and dinner Fri-Sat. The restaurant looks very nice inside and staff were extremely friendly and helpful! We ordered the pad Thai (chicken), chicken with noodle salad, shiu mai, and crispy shrimp rolls. Everything was very good! The pad Thai was made just the way I like it and my gf especially liked the noodle salad which was light, creamy, and perfect for a hot day. I've been coming here over 10-15 years. What I love the most is that the service has always been friendly, fast, and the food is SO consistent. The noodle salad tastes exactly the same today as it did waaaaay back when I was in grad school. So does everything else. Bangkok shrimp is my favorite item. Rich with a little kick. With double noodle salad. I'm not sure if anyone with working taste buds is allowed to say the noodle salad is bad/weird. It's literally the perfect cool/creamy/slightly sweet counterpart to the more salty protein options. I've never had it anywhere else and it's absolutely addicting. Some people in reviews have also mentioned that they have a smaller menu, which I appreciate. Most places that have 500 options to choose from are serving you frozen, subpar food. The smaller menu also means I have literally never had to wait forever for my food to arrive. This place is a hidden gem in town. Great lunch spot and a nice, unpretentious place for a date night. Tokyo alley is definitely a hidden gem.. LITERALLY It's located in an alley in downtown Macon, GA. I first tried this place as a delivery order. I tried the Cheese Roll's and the Noodle Salad. Both of those items are very unique and different especially the Noodle Salad (Spaghettini, diced celery tossed in special light & creamy sauce, served cold) .. Imagine eating cold pasta with what taste like mayo and other ingredients including something sweet. It's definitely a different kind of dish, it's interesting but I would proceed with caution. I don't think everyone will like this dish some will and some won't. It depends on your unique taste. Did I like it? Well, sometimes I did and sometimes I thought it was weird. However, the Cheese Rolls (Crispy rolls filled with crabmeat & cream cheese, served with a sweet chili dipping sauce) are pretty good. They are one of the items that keep me coming back. They are pretty decent. They cost $2.50 a piece. I would definitely try these out if your in the area. Get at least 3-4 when you order. You definitely don't want to order just one. I've also tried the shrimp here. The shrimp were really good. The type of shrimp I ordered, I don't see on the menu anymore but they often have unique specials available for a limited time. The service here is decent, the lady at the desk is always nice and happy and the servers are always pleasant. The hours here are pretty crazy but they have seemed to make it work for them. They are open 11am-3pm M-F Friday they open again at 5pm-9:15p Saturday - They are open 5pm-9:15pm If I were you, I would always call before heading here. I have went here a few times and was disappointed because they were closed. I would recommend finding a park downtown and parking somewhere on the street. It's free but read the signs! The alley isn't really parking friendly unless your getting valet service and I don't think that's always available. I've never used it. My bf and I just moved to Macon last week from NorCal and we stopped by here for lunch after running errands in downtown. The restaurant is small but had a nice ambiance. I loved the dim lighting and nice decor. We shared the shumai, crispy shrimp, chicken pad Thai, and lemon chicken. Everything was delicious! The cold noodles that came with the lemon chicken was light and refreshing. The pad Thai was very flavorful and the cabbage gave it a nice crunch. There aren't many Asian restaurants in the area that we currently live in so we were really pleased to have found some good food in downtown Macon. We ordered takeout from here for lunch and I have to say it was delicious! We ordered from across town and when we got the food back to our destination it was still good and hot. Came here for a night out with my friends and it was very good. The establishment is very small though and me and my friends can get loud so it's probably better for date night or just two or three people at the most. Very intimate setting with low lights and nice decor. They do not serve alcohol though, which was surprising considering it's a downtown restaurant. The food however was good I got the lemon chicken. At first I was kind of thrown off because I paid a fair amount of money for what was basically chicken strips tossed in a lemon sauce. However, everything tasted really good and the portions were huge! I was able to eat from the same plate for about two days. The cold noodle salad is slightly sweet and a little creamy. It was surprisingly good. I also had some appetizers. One was called shumai which was basically little fried pieces of crab meat wrapped in a rice paper. It was good! It came out super hot, which I appreciated because I like my food hot. I also got the cheese rolls, which were alright I probably wouldn't get them again. It reminded my of Crab Rangoon but it wasn't nearly as flavorful, just tasted like hot cream cheese. read more

Someone said this place is "Westernized Thai food with no spice" and I want to second this. I've lived in Boston and Philly and had some amazing Thai food in Atlanta recently. And this...wow. The orange sauce tasted like orange juice and it tasted like I was eating chicken with a good ol' cup of OJ. The only plus of the meal was the spring roll.
