We stayed at the Mandarin hotel and honestly, it was one of the best stays I've had in NYC. The hospitality was unmatched, and the room views are really hard to beat. But- the follow review is specially for the speakeasy hidden inside the hotel lounge- The Bar. It's hard to determine the best highlight of the night when truly everything across the board was fantastic. Between the exceptional service and the intentionally crafted delicious signature cocktails, we could've easily spent hours and hours in there. A huge thank you to Aya, the hostess, for her warmth and enthusiasm upon greeting us. Because we didn't have reservations, we stood near the bar waiting for some stools to free up. Aya was constantly watchful of the space and communicated to us when a table opened up so we didn't miss it. It was bussed so quickly and made ready for us in just a minute! Thank you for the accommodation :) From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the most friendly and welcoming staff. Emanuela and Andy were incredibly attentive to us - a huge thank you to them for the timely check-ins and thoughtful care. The manager himself, Alan, was very active throughout the night and was kind enough to stop by and strike up conversation (and also give us some of his suggestions for our second round of drinks!) The drinks speak for themselves. Nicolas, the bartender, asked us for taste preferences and explained certain flavor profiles to ensure we'd like the drinks we chose, which we really appreciated. The Marrakech is very unique, indeed full of spices without being hot, and was my favorite drink of the night. The Venice was a perfect (dare I say better) twist on a spritz, with the literal bubbles on top adding to the flair! My boyfriend had the Bangkok and Doha- both phenomenally tasting, but with Bangkok taking the win. The Bar is a classy and modern speakeasy that should absolutely be at the top of your list for your next date night. And again- a huge thank you to the entire team for a truly memorable night- we loved every second of our time there! read more

This is an amazing hotel. I have nothing but positive things to say about it though I was on a brief stay for one night for business trip in New York. Everything was 5 Star from the curb when I arrived to staff at the front desk and my room was immaculate. The Central Park view topped it off. I was on the 43 floor so there was still some road noise but it's New York City so it is to be expected. Other positive included the turn down service while I was out to dinner and even when I had an issue with getting the tub knob to turn, maintenance came promptly, and I still prefer wake up calls when staying in hotels which was done as expected and pleasantly early in the morning. I hope to return or experience another location in the world one day as this was my first at this property but won't be my last! read more

Mandarin Oriental is a great option for a classy afternoon tea. For my 30th birthday, I celebrated with high tea with a group of 10 friends. The high tea experience includes a tea of your choice, ginger/plain scones, 4 tea sandwiches and 5 sweets. We had so many delicious sweet and savory treats that we took some home. We also added a glass of champagne and it was delicious. My favorite bites were the lobster roll and tarts. It seems like the menu changes seasonally so some of these treats are not currently available :/. Our waiter was patient and service was great. My only complaint was it was a bit frustrating making a reservation for a larger group. Initially, I emailed and eventually had to call to secure a reservation, so something to think about if you're booking for a large group. I'd celebrate another special occasion here. read more

Mandarin Oriental came recommended to my boyfriend by a friend and we decided to stop by before dinner. The dining room had a gorgeous view of Central Park and during the time of year we went, we caught the tail end of the fall foliage. We were offered a seat in a more secluded corner of the room, which we appreciated. I ordered the Sakura season and my boyfriend had the non-alcoholic "pass on" drink. For a quick bite, we ordered the fries. As the drinks were brought out, we were given complimentary wasabi peas, nuts, and olives. Our drinks were pretty good, but contrary to the appearance of luxury they tried to present, I found that the quality of the drinking glasses, with the gold designs on one of the cups peeling, was lacking. It didn't affect the quality of the actual drinks or food, but just an observation. The fries were much better than your average fries and probably the best fries I have ever had. Rather than the usual rectangles, the potatoes were prepared in a way that they were slices/layers of each truffle fry and it was perfectly crispy. read more

BEWARE! This is for the NYC Mandarin Spa location. I purchased a $500 gift card that was never received by the intended recipient. I reported the problem immediately, and the gift card remains completely unused. Since then, I have provided proof of payment, included the recipient on correspondence, contacted the overseas customer service team, and even reached out to the NYC office directly. Despite all of this, I continue to receive the same vague response: that the matter is a "priority" and that senior people are looking into it. Meanwhile, weeks have passed with no resolution. What is so complicated about refunding or reissuing an unused gift card that was clearly lost in transit? The company can verify the purchase, confirm that the card has never been redeemed, and see that the recipient never received it. Instead of taking a simple, customer-focused approach, they have forced me into an endless cycle of emails and escalations. Be careful where you spend your money. Don't spend it here. read more

I've had the pleasure at staying at only one of their properties in the past (which is now sadly closed). When returning to New York, I always told myself I'll spend at least one night here since I enjoyed my stay so much. I figured it would be a hundred times more spectacular in this city, so much so that I made an exception to stay in this part of town for one night. If I may be honest, it wasn't quite up to the expectations I had thought it would be. After being dropped off, the doorman was busy but the one door was already open so it was no problem entering with my luggage. Easy to find elevators were straight ahead past the small sitting area on your left. Let me tell you, these elevators are really, really, slow. There are three, and a dim light appears above the one that is arriving which was helpful. From there, you are taken to the lobby to the MO Lounge and the check-in desk. I'm pleased to say this was a fairly smooth process . As a 'Fan of MO', you are given two benefits and I had chosen late check-out and streaming wifi but was informed that the latter was now standard, so I opted for a dining credit. I wasn't sure when and if I could use it, but I figured I would attempt to fit this in somehow during my one-night stay. Room was on the 45th floor, and was tucked away in one of the corners. Since I had booked one of the basic rooms, it was small as expected, but still larger than most city hotel rooms. It had what I needed: a bed, desk, and bathroom along with a nice view of the sunset. After dropping my stuff off, I wanted to seek out the pool/fitness and spa. These perks were easy to find, and the employees working were friendly. Bath amenities were the large pumps in the shower, but the soaps and lotion were individuals and up for grabs, branded diptyque. Turndown service consisted of a floor mat placed bedside, slippers, a couple of chocolates, and an additional bottle of water which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, I didn't sleep well at all; there were some random noises coming from the ceiling, and the vent blew directly over the bed which I had to constantly adjust. Security had to come to the room next to me, and you could hear through the walls fairly well, but whatever this was, it was taken care of quickly. Upon checking out, they do the obligatory how was everything, and I said it was just okay, but there was no follow up. Then there was an issue with the amount of the dining credit (they were offering $41 when I was told yesterday it was $50). This additional amount was applied with no further issue, but I just felt disappointed about this brief stay. I know Las Vegas is considered tacky to some, but that Mandarin Oriental really set the standard for the brand for me, and they did things so right. Sad they didn't last, but I'll remember that as my first great experience. That being said, I won't completely dismiss MO; I'd be willing to try another location if I ever get the opportunity but as for here, there are so many other hotels in town that I'm sorry to say this just doesn't warrant a repeat (overnight) visit. read more

We came here for high tea and the view over Columbus Circle and Central Park is extraordinary. It is a luxury high-end hotel, but it's definitely worth the trip for something special. John made our high tea experience over the top as he was engaging, explained all of the wonderful delicacies to us, and offered to take video and photos that will be memorable for a lifetime. Came here for seasonal afternoon tea. The view is amazing - only the tables that order afternoon tea get the perimeter against the windows! Decent cup of tea ~ English breakfast of course and Earl Grey. Random, but the shape of the teapots is not ergonomic at all, and it's nearly impossible to pour tea with one hand whilst not burning yourself LOL. So it's nice to have someone else pour the tea for you :) Scones - soooo buttery, flaky, and delicious. Top 10 scones I've ever had. I think they rotate the flavors of scones. Today we got the plain and raisin/cranberry(?) which come with Devonshire cream, lemon curd, and strawberry preserves. Even if you're a selective clotted cream girl, try all of the jams! Tea sandwiches - mini lobster roll with caviar was very cute and pretty good, the others were decent! Only the curry sandwich ended up being my least favorite. Desserts - the apple mousse was by far the favorite! The strawberry cheesecake came in second. But the chocolate chocolate was not great - too rich and sticky! Wow - what an experience! I was unfamiliar with Mandarin Oriental Lounge before I visited and anytime I've shared that I visited, I've been met with oooh's and aaah's! I imagine it's a lovely stay, but this review is solely for après dinner drinks. Located in the iconic Circle area and overviewing Central Park and the Manhattan skyline, the MO lounge is gorgeously designed with clean, curvy lines and ornamental fabrics and patterns. When we stepped off the elevator, we were immediately ushered in as a party of 5 and immediately seated at a table by the windows. Looking back, I think it was quite late and close to closing, so much thanks to the staff that obliged us. There was ample seating. A few of us ordered wines, another a cocktail, one an Irish coffee, myself a cocktail: Walk in the Park ($26), 5/5 - gin, tonic, botanicals, cucumber, elderflower - this was elegant and delicious, very light, floral, and refreshing thanks to the cucumber! Take a look at my photos for the gorgeous presentation. You are provided with salty, Asian-inspired crunchy snacks such as wasabi peas, and more, complimentary with your drinks. A special thank you to staff - our server informed us there were fireworks visible outside in a separate room, overlooking Central Park. That was so kind of our server and such a nice touch! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED MO NYC exceeded all expectations I had for my weekend stay. In the past, I always stayed at the Four Seasons MidTown, but, since they were closed, I decided to try MO. I had previously stayed at the MO Miami and that was excellent, so I knew it would be a great choice, but MO NYC outshines the Miami location. I was greeted at the front desk with a warm smile and a welcoming feeling. My room was spacious, EXTREMELY CLEAN, and private. The bathtub added an element of luxury that made this trip OVER THE TOP AMAZING, especially since it was cold and rainy in the city. The room service was PERFECTION! Delicious breakfasts in the morning, and yummy snacks in the afternoon. The final element that made my stay even more amazing was Patricia. She booked a last minute car service to the airport for me. My first time staying at this hotel. In the past, I've stayed at Lotte Palace, Nyc. but the pricing was out of this world for this hotel. It's kind of interesting because I googled why the hotels were so expensive in September and came across the same question from 13 years ago. Apparently it's a popular time to visit New York City. I'm thinking the weather is more comfortable. It turned out that the UN delegation was meeting at this time in the city. Anyway, found somewhat of a decent price at this hotel, but it won't be cheap for a 4 and 5 star hotel during this time. I have stayed other times and the prices are more reasonable. Be ready for a very different experience. I did not expect to to have a lot of oriental flavors, decorations, personnel. It worked. Terrific little touches that you might not notice if you're not looking. I love the little orchids all over the place. Bought the package with the breakfast and I could not believe the quality of a simple breakfast. I am not even close to being a chef. I don't think I have ever seen eggs cook so perfectly over medium, the hashbrowns are nothing like a Cafe, hash brown, a beautifully poached and stuffed tomato. Simple breakfast but really enjoyable. It was kind of funny I mentioned to my server about the quality of the food and she had the Chef come to our table to talk to us. It was an honor and he explained about his experience being a French chef. Despite having a large wedding at the hotel, we were upgraded to a beautiful Park view. I and my daughter was in heaven. I feel so lucky that I chose this hotel. Reception couldn't be more gracious and friendly. This day was definitely a wow. read more

I was in NYC this week for a conference and stayed at The Mandarin. Location is wonderful as you are only 3 blocks from Lincoln Center right off Broadway and a block from Central Park. Location,location, location. Service at the Mandarin was great and my room attendant knew me by name. The restaurant on the lobby level (35th floor) has amazing views and food was well prepared. The only down side to my stay was the bed in my room. King size is great but the bed was overly form and didn't have either a pillow top or topper for comfort. I would expect a higher level sleep experience than a standard mattress. I hope to try again in a future visit to NY. read more

Mandarin Oriental is a five star hotel with an Asian theme in NYC which I feel isn't worthy of the 5 star title, perhaps a 4 star title and here's why. The room itself isn't modern. The lights are all manual switches and aren't computer controlled. You need to manually go up to each lamp and turn them off. The shades are manual. The high ceiling is nice and view is spectacular. This hotel is on the tall side with lots of floors. Rooms don't start until like the 37th floor. 35th floor is the lobby and 36th floor is the gym and pool. Since the hotel is on the older side and not modernized, functionally it works well. The bathroom vanity is nice and long to put lots of things on, the water pressure is also great in the sink. The split bathtub and shower is nice, the bathtub fills quickly and there is a TV that you can watch while soaking. There is also a window next to the tub so you can look out the window and enjoy a nice view. The shower has nice water pressure with two shower heads. There is a rain shower and a normal hand held shower. Unfortunately you cannot use both at the same time. The hours of the gym, pool, and room service is inconvenient. The gym closes at 7 PM and the pool closes at 5 PM. That's just way too early. The gym is incredibly small with only one set of weights and one bench. There is the workout mirror in there as well. They do have nice fruit flavor water outside the gym. The pool isn't heated and it's a very basic pool. It's not very deep. There is only one pool and no hot tub/jacuzzi. Room service ends at 11 PM and the food is just so-so. Spent 150 dollars on food and only really liked one dish. The service here is friendly, there is a doorman that helps you open the door when you get here. When I requested something from the front desk, it came to my room quickly and in a timely matter. The bed is a traditional spring mattress that is extremely bouncy. Any move is exacerbated on the bed. The bedsheets are very dry and rough. The TV is in a nice location, it's very high so when you lay in bed, your eyes naturally look at it. There is no USB charging ports near the bed but there is two near the desk. There is only space on one side of the bed for a plug, the other side does not. The paper products were also on the lower end with thin tissues and thin toilet paper. Even though we requested a room with two guests, only one towel robe was given. Wi-Fi isn't exactly free as you need to join the MO Club or else you have to pay a fee. Overall, this hotel is nice with a great view. Service is great but the hours of the amenities are inconvenient. The room service food isn't great and you might as well skip it. You are on top of the shops on the Columbus Circle so you are very near shopping. The location is convenient and close to many small businesses. It's also very close to Central Park. read more

Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the wait staff. We had to repeatedly flag down our waiter to get his attention. Eye contact and hand waving was not obvious enough for him to respond to. Other waiters came to help us instead. When asking for tea recommendations, he responded with "it's a new menu, I'm not familiar". It's the cashmere-clad lap of luxury on Columbus Circle. My stay was perfectly smooth, except for the fact that when I checked in, they had a much higher rate listed on my reservation than on my confirmation email. This flub was corrected immediately, and once check-in was completed, the swift elevators whisked me to my 50th-floor room.The view over west Manhattan to the Hudson was striking and a different perspective on the city. (They offered me a Central Park view upgrade, but there wasn't one ready for early check-in, so I decided to go with what was available. No problem; they just switched the amenity to a $50 food/beverage credit.) The rooms are a calm, stylish oasis with plenty of storage and very large by NYC standards. The bathroom alone was larger than many rooms I've had in the City over the years. I love that it runs the length of the room behind the headboard wall and includes a tub under a window. The shower is also huge and even the water glasses are glittery and fancy. The only even slightly negative thing I noticed was that there were some scuffs along the bedframe and on the legs of some of the furniture, so it may be getting time to switch things out. All the textiles, etc. were in great shape. The 36th-floor pool is a spectacular amenity and we had it to ourselves on a Friday afternoon. The lounge overlooking Central Park offered great cocktails and always seemed to have a seat available even on a weekend. The decor is understated elegant with just a splash of drama in the curved lighting fixture. Staff were, of course, unfailingly polite and eager to be helpful. Absolutely not worth the effort or expense for an overnight. Try the Cipriani instead. Or the Chelsea Hotel. Or any of the other great NYC hotels just down the street or across the park (St Regis, Plaza, etc.). Great but very false presentation, cheap and poorly trained staff, uptight and inflexible beyond belief. The one star is for the great lunch I had earlier this year and the piss poor reception I had for an actual stay. This is coming from a lifelong NY'er and professional documentary filmmaker who has seen these places come and go. Let this one go. I have. Happily cut their locations off from hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of my career and lifetime because they couldn't adapt or accommodate. Take your business elsewhere. I've literally seen them all from the this nightmare to the Savoy... The Mandarin Oriental in NYC is absolutely not worth the hype. The staff is trained to the level of a cheap chain. Trust a seasoned traveler and location pro, and someone who grew up in this city and neighborhood: If you must, pre-book and pre-pay your stay - staff are so uptight, ignorant and poorly trained as to be unable to recognize and accommodate a professional traveller on an expense account even if you're staring them in the face. Unacceptable and inflexible, stay at your own risk. Even so, tipped the bellmen $20 each to carry my bags in and then out again 30 minutes later - not their fault they work in that kind of environment. They are your best friends in places like this, never the management who were looking for tips just for a smooth check-in. I'm too practiced to let them hold my luggage hostage, as they apparently have for other travelers. Fellow professionals, this is NOT some petty grievance about towels or a lunch gone awry. This is a seasoned traveller and documentarian putting down tens of thousands for just a few nights accommodation, plus tips, but which in the end were MUCH better served across town. Even their so-called 'speakeasy' bar is a nameless joke. You're much better off at the King Cole in the St Regis or Bemelmans at the Carlyle despite the potential crowds. Go early. Those are actually NY legends, unlike this front. Take the word of a seasoned NY'er, the service and accommodations are much better on Central Park South or across town on the Upper East Side. Anyone looking for the real NYC experience... This is not it. At the end of the day they turned out to be just another chain hotel. Visit a real New York legend instead, like the Chelsea, The Carlyle or the Plaza. Literally ANY other NYC legend before this recent and overhyped nightmare. I very much enjoyed checking in across town in far more luxurious environs for a far more appropriate New York stay. I have friends who run Michelin starred restaurants and actual boutique hotels; this is a chain and not a five-star hotel. As Johnny Cash once said, "I've been everywhere, man...", well, this place might as well be a Holiday Inn. The tips and compliments and reviews would have flowed like wine, but my sincere advice is to spare yourself the expense and enjoy this great city with less aggravation and actual hospitality. I'm sure they do a great job elsewhere, but the view and the action is better everywhere else in NYC, so why bother? The Mandarin Oriental NYC is a toy, not the real New York. So unfortunate that a hotel chain of moderate repute would have to manipulate reviews of their flagship NYC property. Wouldn't it just be simpler to treat paying customers properly? Business travelers should be especially careful and pre-pay all stays, they are cutting costs in NY by cutting out awareness, education and talent. My recommendation if you're looking for real NYC style is the Carlyle, Cipriani, St Regis or the Plaza. I've been to the Mandarin alone and with Hemmingways... It's not what it used to be and looks rather small. Any chain that's too big to know, research or care who you are is not worth your time, your money or your attention. From the ground up a cheap imitation of their well-heeled and -trained cousins. Don't be fooled by the local and cheap imitation. read more

For the price of this hotel, they have the rudest night staff and doormen. We went to check out the fitness center and an employee approached us asking if we were guests. We said yes and asked what the hours were. Employee "Well, it depends on the season" Us " what are the hours this week" Employee "like I said, it depends on the season" WTF. We are not here to play 50 questions with the staff. Same with the doormen in the evenings. They won't even leave their post to open the doors for anyone or bother to call a cab or let anyone use the complimentary car (obviously sitting right in front of the hotel not being used. We know this because we've taken it before) The resturant staff and morning doormen were very nice though. Our experience here proved the 5star service is not consistent across the different hotel teams. read more

The best hotel I've ever stayed at. Book immediately. This hotel is magical. You are treated like ROYALTY. The staff treated me like a princess. All the staff including housekeeping, room service, & front desk. They will have staff prepare you for bed; bring you slides etc. The staff is so friendly & charming. The housekeeping staff was very accommodating & not pushy at all. I felt very secure & comfortable the whole time. I felt very at peace. The views are surreal. The bathtub has a view shown in the first picture as well as a tv above it. I booked last minute & I was able to book a room on the highest floors. There is a jewelry store, restaurant, & spa inside of the hotel. Insane. I would not recommend opening bottles that should be obvious but I ended up spending over $600 on 4 small containers of alcohol. Not the smartest move. read more

Pretty nice place!! However, my only recommendation is to make a reservation before you go or you might not get a table near the large windows - for the Columbus circle view. The fries were honestly really good and light - but a huge serving which was lovely. The mushroom risotto was amazing! Super tasty. And the staff was really friendly. read more

Afternoon tea was a wonderful experience. Tea selection and food was well done and presented.

Definitely live up to its stars and this place is all about the view. The service level was spectacular, their staffs were so friendly, helpful and amazing. I can't think of any minus point during our stay. It's just a few steps away from Central Park and subway station, might be a bit far to Midtown and Downtown, even JFK so be careful with the travel plan to avoid traffic. We didn't have time to enjoy their amenities, mainly just the bar at late night and in-room dining service for breakfast. The view from the bar was amazing, awesome skyline from 35th floor. Their staffs also gave us some great recommendations for food around the area. Definitely recommend if you plan to stay around Uptown and Central Park. read more

WOW First off, let's start with the lobby being on the 35th floor, which is nice a bit tricky if this is your first time here. Easy access to your room from the entrance, I stayed on the 47th floor. This place is so beautiful inside. I mean, the decor is so lovely. I stayed here for a few days in January. It's upscale for sure, and it's pricey; there's an Asian theme throughout the hotel's name. The view was so lovely at night and just gorgeous. The staff was accommodating and welcoming, which always helps when staying in a hotel. Now, why do I give them four stars? I mean, for the price you pay, some of the things should be a bit more updated in the room and accomodating. Even if they were minor things that i felt shouldn't be an issue, they were for me. For example, the lamps were manual, not something you could turn off and on from a light switch whenever you wanted to use them, which was a pain if you forgot them, which i did a few times. And having to go around to each one to light up the room at night was just annoying. The bathroom is gorgeous, the TV in the mirror is excellent, and it was spacious, not to mention the bidet ;). The room was also a good size, and the view was fantastic, and the book selection i enjoyed a lot, but overall it's a beautiful hotel read more

I definitely enjoyed this place a lot! I would totally return and comeback for a classy night with cocktails and a view. The views were incredible, and I was lucky enough to get a table by the window. The drinks were priced like any other lounge in the city with a view. I will say, however, that this view was truly amazing. I was running a few minutes late to the reservation and we had a last-minute change in party size, but the hostess was very hospitable and kind. She is what brought this review to be 5 stars for me! Pro tip - bring a jacket or a layer for yourself. At first, it was nice and fresh when we came in from the hot outside, but once the sun had set, that AC was cranking and definitely had me a little chilly. No reason to take off a star, though.
