My family has been going to this location for at least 25 years. I look at thousands of dollars we have spent at this location. This restaurant has dramatically gone downhill . The service is rude from management to the floor staff. It was always occasion to bring the whole family there, I am so disappointed words can not explain. Most of family have passed on so are adventures there have ceased. My mother at the age of 85 wanted to go one more last time ,we had other choices but she remembered the memories. She is now gone. My Birthday was coming up before she left and I showed them my paperwork. The manager gave me such a hassle I could not believe to be spoken to like this. She said I had fill out a bunch of forms in order to receive a coupon . I figured after all the money my family spent there this should not be a problem . I showed her my drivers licence to prove it was my birthday, she then left and brought other management out and basically to push her point across ,can a person feel more lower than this. This Mandarin location is incredible. Our server, Anita, should be recognized for her amazing customer service skills. She is friendly, knowledgeable, polite and very hard working. As it was my daughter's birthday, Anita came over to our table and really made it special. She took a family picture for us and presented it to us before we left. Mediocre food. It's a buffet though so I'm unsure what you would expect. But let's skip over the food for a bit and talk about the service. We wanted to go to Mandarin after my grandfather's funeral. My family is freaking huge because gramps had a lot of kids. Like double digits. We knew there was going to be a lot of people after the funeral because gramps knew so many people and was well respected in the community. So we called a week before the funeral and the girl on the phone was like "Yeah we don't take any reservations," and I get that because they want to make the most business they can. Well obviously they must take some reservations because my family members have done reservations for company functions. We didn't know how many people would be there, but we knew there would be over 100 people, so we told the girl that and she said she would "make a note of it." So after grampa's funeral, we were emotionally wrung out and wanted to go to Mandarin. My aunt called before we left, and they still didn't know that we were coming. Okay, my aunt is probably not the best person to call, but honestly, the girl didn't even tell any of her co-workers we were coming. She called in sick to work that day. So they all scrambled to open up rooms during opening. They weren't prepared. It took an hour for people to get seated. Yes we were WAY over 100 people, and of course we wouldn't know how many people would've went. There were 214 that went to celebrate the life of grandpa, and I was not pleased with the way they handled everything in terms of the reservations. If it weren't that grandpa really liked Mandarin, we would have chosen another establishment. The workers scrambled to find seats, and make food fast enough for the family. I thought the waiters and busboys were great, dealing with the unusual amount of volume at the beginning of their shift, but the girl on the phone? No. If she told someone before hand then maybe they could have brought in more people to work the shift. The food was mostly out for the first hour, and the food looked messy, because no one was prepared for how many people there were. August 29/14......I placed a huge order for about 25 people, It was delivered, later than evening the electronic bill came to my cell phone($450.00) Somebody at the restuarant added an $80 extra charge. We called the restaurant, they said we would have to prove to the manager the charge was on the phone.so, we took our phone got into the car drove from Mississauga to Etobicoke. Even though they saw the charge the manager REFUSED to credit back the charge to our card.He said that his people would never do that. I run an HONEST business......PEOPLE CHECK YOUR BILLS CLOSELY BEFORE YOU PAY YOUR BILL. If they do this to delivery orders, what do they do to people that eat in their restuarants. This is easily a five star restaurant for one reason, and one reason only. Pizza. Their pizza is exquisitely exquisite. I don't know how else to describe it. It's basically an orgasm, but in your mouth. The food was as good as ever, but I was blown away by the service. This was a holiday Monday (Family Day), and the lobby was incredibly crowded. Apparently lots of large reservations. We came without a reservation, with a smaller group. We were served quickly, and the servers exceeded expectations. They were very friendly, and very helpful. Been going there for yours the last two times food was awful time before last and yesterday took my 8 yr old grandson within 1 1/2 hours of leaving we were cramping in the stomach then we both got extremely sick within minutes of each other, still have stomach issues today as well as needing to be very close to restroom. Never in my 56 years of eating out did I have an experience like that. It was very embarrassing and degrading. I will NEVER eat at the Queensway location again and when I told the manager she tried to make it seem like we probably had the flu. I love Mandarin! I have been here for my birthday last year and this year. I loved every part of it!!! My birthday is during Lunar New Year which means I have extra food options. Yesterday they had a huge salmon!!! The staff members are very efficient. Anybody who talks to you or sees you in one of their many dining rooms always says "Welcome to Mandarin". They give you a hot towel before and after your meal. There is a LOT of food available, and not just Chinese food! There are salads and pastas and many wonderful desserts to feast on!!! The food is always fresh and delicious. Upon exiting, you will be given a mint in hand. Mandarin is always busy. Make a reservation if you plan to go. This is a Chinese buffet restaurant that also serves pizza and french fries. There is a small carvery area (they had Turkey and roast beef today) along with gravy, mashed potates and turkey pot pie. There is a salad bar with about 15 different types of salads, and also have veggies/salad fixings so you can make your own salad as well. There is typical Chinese food, rice, noodles, fish, veggies, shrimp, mussels, spring rolls, sushi etc. There is a lot of variety and choice. They have lots of fresh fruit, cakes, pies and ice cream/frozen yogourt for dessert. The best dishes were the Chinese dishes (chicken, beef), fried veggies, rice, shrimp in my opinion. Nothing was mind blowing and neither was any of it bad. I thought the weakest area were the desserts. The cakes were just okay. If I go back I would stick to the frozen yogourt and fruit for dessert and not bother with the cakes/pies. People say the servers are rude - honestly they serve a huge number of customers quickly and efficiently. Your water glass is always full, dirty dishes are picked up from your table and there is plenty of food on the buffet. Their forte is getting a large number of people served quickly and efficiently. I would go back and think it's a great place for families. Everyone can find something they like to eat here (from the very young to the old). Not happy - Just had lunch here, and had the worst mandarin experience of my life - went for a nice lunch out with my best friend, only to be treated like sub-human because of my friend's appearance (very short hair, tattoo's) server must have assumed we were a lesbian couple and treated us as not worthy of the same service as every one else in the dining room. I ordered the combo plate with sweet and sour ribs which were nothing but fat and cartilage a totally inedible. I not only spoke to the manager, but also left two messages at head office. This review is based on a lunch visit in June 2015 to celebrate my mother's 85th birthday! All 25 of us were very pleased with the food and the service. We had been to this Mandarin location several times but had a horrifying experience this week and the manager handled it terribly. We were a party of 5 in a room with a very large party of about 40 people, many of whom had been served too much alcohol. We complained to our server that they were loud and throwing things, but she did nothing. Just as we were discussing moving tables, I was hit in the back of the head by a young man who had hurled an object across the room. I screamed in pain. The culprit left the restaurant. We asked for the manager but she never came--staying on the phone instead. We were handed a full bill! We calmly told the manager we would not pay the bill as they had failed to provide a safe environment, and we left. They apparently called the police, but the police did not contact us. The next day, another manager called and offered us half price. I did not agree. I had to go to the doctor's to make sure I didn't have a concussion. The manager called back to say the culprit's family had agreed to pay half the bill and Mandarin would pay the other. Manadarin should have apologized, comped the bill and offered us another meal another time for free, or for half price. Instead they have lost our family as customers!
