The food is genuinely good and very tasty. I've always enjoyed the flavors, and that's what kept me coming back for a while. My main issue was the portion size of the meat and chicken. Considering the prices, I felt the amount you received was too small. I don't mind paying more for quality food, but when you're spending a decent amount of money, you expect a more reasonable portion of the main protein. The service was also hit-or-miss. Sometimes it was fine, and other times it left a lot to be desired. Between the inconsistent service and the small portions, we eventually stopped going there. I know I'm not the only one who felt this way, as I've heard similar complaints from others regarding the portion sizes. That said, I want to be fair and mention that I haven't ordered from them in the past two years, so things may have changed since my last visit. Came here a few times for early dinner a few times and enjoyed it both times. I ordered the small chicken madhi plate, which is very filling. We didn't have to wait long before the food was served. The chicken came off the bone so easily, and it was nicely seasoned as well. The dish came on a large bed of rice and a delicious lentil soup, along with dipping sauce. This was my first time trying Mandi and boy, it was delicious! I wonder why I had never tried this before. Their slow-cooked lamb mandi plate was the star of the show for me. I am usually that person who does this like lamb as much coz of the smell but trust me when I say, this was the softest and juiciest no-smell lamb I have ever had. It was melt-in-your-mouth soft and packed with flavor! The rice portion was enough for 2-3 people to share depending on how hungry you are. It also comes with fried onions and potato on the rice. The chicken and lamb mixed mandi was good too but honestly after trying the lamb, I was sold! However, I did like the rice on the chicken mandi better than the lamb one. I thought it tasted better. If I could have done 3.5 stars, I should have. The biggest thing that this place had going against it, was the lack of service and the incredibly long wait time to get your food. Otherwise, everything else is decent. A unique type of food, and not a super complicated menu either. That's sad, options are fairly limited with essentially just choosing different types of protein with the same rice served across all of the dishes except a couple. I loved my experience trying out Mandi for the first time at Mandi Afandi. The restaurant is located near the Dixie Auto Mall in Mississauga, close to the 401 exit. It's in a large plaza with other various restaurants and plenty of parking. You order your food, cafeteria style, as you order and pay, then they assign you a table. They deliver your food to the table once is ready. We ordered the two lamb dishes, the Haneedh (spice marinated lamb, grilled on low heat) and the Zurbian (slow cooked lamb with potatoes and caramelized onions). They start you off with a Lentils soup that's included with the dishes. The lamb was so tender that it literally fell off the bones. No knife was required. The rice was so good and flavorful. I have always heard about the Mandi. This is the result from my search on Uber eats. It really was an amazing experience. The rice was long-shape and dry, but very flavorful. The lamp was not very tender, but still delicious. The fried onion is very special. I actually love it! The soup tasted very good, like some melted potatoes and something I could not recognize. However for the Kunefe, it was a bit too sweeter for me ( I am not a sweet tooth), though i love the crunchy feeling in my mouth. read more

I havent been there myself just yet but I got take out from it the other day. the Lamb Mandi, oh myyy, its mouth watering delicious. The meat is literally falling off the bone, the seasoning is to perfection as well as the cooking, oh boy its delicious for sure. The rice is very tasty and well seasoning, they have fried onions on it which tastes like they were lemon dipped or something, delicious is all I know. The combination was amazinggg for sure. I got the Kunafa for dessert, which again wow delicious. Never had a cheese kunafa that good in a really long time, it was perfect, not super sweet but also very well put together. I cannot tell you what Mandi Afandi means, but I can say that Mandi is a Yemeni cuisine. It is a combination of long grain rice with a complex taste and marinated meats left to bask in the flavour overnight. It is delicious. Several herbs and garnishes have been infused into the meat (typically chicken but also available as lamb) overnight and they sit atop of a bed of yellow rice. Back in Yemen this is the type of dish cooked and prepared by the nomads in the desert. Here the dish comes in two sizes (I had the 'mini' and was more than stuffed), which is served with complimentary lentil soup and a small container of yoghurt and... hmmm I want to say cucumber, but there was more to it than that. The restaurant has several other Arabic dishes, which are typically meats a top of aromatic rice, which are all new to me. I would not mind returning and trying those as well. The restaurant offers dates at the counter where one orders. Then the employees deliver the meal to your table. The high ceilings and bright colours give the erstaurabt a very pastel and roomy feeling. One gets to sit at tables, booths or at low tables on the floor. I am gratified to live in Canada. Just in this plaza I counted a Pakistani restaurant, an Afghani restaurant, a fake sushi place (I bet no one remembers Jimbay), a pizzeria and a shawarma place. Where else in the world does one get such a multicultural experience? It is wonderful. read more

I was out with a friend who heard about this restaurant as part of a CBC program reviewer's list of hidden gems. We decided to check it out and were incredibly impressed. Though it's set up as a counter service restaurant, they bring the food to you. And the food's phenomenal! Their Moussaka is one of the tastiest and most fragrant I've ever had. The mixed chicken and lamb Mandi was very tasty. And the portions are extremely generous. It is no wonder they have takeout containers readily available on the counter; unless you're with a group, you will need/want them. And that is not even counting the complimentary Arabic tea and coffee and fresh dates. But what struck us the most was the staff. I don't think I've ever been served at a counter service style restaurant by staff as welcoming as I found here. They made recommendations for us and were so positive in personality that I'd almost have to describe them as glowing. It is clear that they take pride in what they are offering and they have every right to. Their website states "Our Food Is Made with Love". And it really shows. This is one of those places where you feel more like you've been welcomed into someone's house than simply that you've walked into a restaurant. I will definitely be coming back. read more

My family and I were visiting from out of town and decided to get dinner here on a Friday night. The interiors are clean with vibrant with colors. It was pretty quiet inside with a few people dining. You have to go up to counter and order, they bring the food to your table. They also have cool Arabian style low seating arrangements if you're into that. We got the big rice platter, the meat was tender and came apart like butter. The apps were good too. There is also free Arabian style coffee and tea available at the counter. The food was delicious, we were two families and ordered the mixed platter (with lamb and chicken mandi and madhbi) and zurbian. The meat was literally falling off the bone, the lamb zurbian in particular was great. The konafa with nutella for dessert was wildly successful, and I definitely recommend it. They also serve complimentary lentil soup with the meal, as well as, unlimited Arabic coffee, tea and dates. The service was exceptional, I swear the employees there never stopped working. The service at this restaurant is not the best. The girl serving us at the front was very rude and responded to us with quite an attitude when we provided her with our order. She asked what table we would like to sit at and confused, it being our first time at this restaurant, we did not know that we had to pick a table number before we ordered. Nonetheless, we wanted to sit at the ground booths in the back. The server rudely said "those tables are dirty." ... ok? No offer to clean it up for us. She offered us a table on the side and we asked if they could clean the booths that we wanted to sit at for us to sit where we'd like. She very coldly said "it will take 5-10 minutes" ??? Ok great thanks so much! I find customer service super important when I'm eating out anywhere especially at a new restaurant. Furthermore, she proceeded to make us wait the full 10 minutes while she was standing around doing nothing and did not make us, her customers, a priority. i just went here and first from the outside this place looks warm and inviting.Once in through the door you notice the beautiful arab musk smell hits you very pleasant.Then you are welcomed by a really friendly gentleman who offers you free Arab coffee had to ask for more! and dates just as a appertizer for what is to come.Ordered the meals even their mini plates are huge was half chicken with rice .This comes with a really tasty soup before the main course.Bread has to be purchased as a side and when that arrived hot and fluffy and not doughy .My main course lamb and chicken.The meat just fell off the bone so tender and flavourised.I felt like i was on a desert feast some where far away. i did notice 3 tables that you could sit on the floor and eat very traditional way.A very clean place and prices were very reasonable and that welcome at the start really made my day who else does this!!!
