Anytime I'm in Little Tokyo, I usually make a quick stop at Maneki Neko because it's always fun to browse and see what new things they have in stock. The shop itself is on the smaller side, but they really pack a lot into the space. They carry a little bit of everything from snacks and blind boxes to household items and stationery. There's also a huge selection of Sanrio and anime merchandise, so it's a great place to find cute collectibles or small gifts. Whether you're shopping for yourself or looking for something fun for someone else, chances are you'll walk out with something. The staff has always been friendly during my visits, and while the store can get pretty busy at times, the overall experience is still enjoyable. Prices are fairly decent for the area which is definitely a plus. Maneki Neko is the sister store of CATCH (which is on the 2nd floor across from Maneki Neko. You can take the elevator or stairs so they are super close to each other. The first thing I want to bring to your attention is HOW MUCH BLIND BOXES there are of various kinds. You've got some for newer popular anime series to older classic favorites, to several miscellaneous but ultra cute original characters (I'm looking at you, Baby3)! Watch out for end of season sales, although I'm not sure how often these happen, but I was in for a treat the last time I visited in mid-February. They had up to 50% off on select items, and they did not disappoint! One final piece of advice, other than if you're trying to avoid the crowd to arrive at opening hours and avoid the lunchtime, is to BYOB! This means bring your own bag (not booze)! Trust me, you'll wanna thank me later. :) I do recommend a bigger tote bag if you have one at home. The store does provide you with bags, but when your haul gets big/heavy, a nice tote will make carrying all those blind boxes A LOT easier. I went to 3 other merchandise stores including a Final Fantasy popup and ended up chucking everything in my one medium to large canvas tote. My palms thanked me for it. This is such a fun store that opens earlier than the other ones in the Japanese Village Plaza. There are so many Pokemon plushies (I want, but I have no room for these!) and big selections of blind boxes. There was one on display but not on the shelves. The lady kindly went to their storage room and found the blind box that I was interested in. There are also plenty of souvenirs if you're not really into the anime stuff. So I buy one blind box of wild but cutie to treat myself to get one as my first collection of wild but cutie cats, and I got neon cutie I love it it's so cute! Another cutesy shop filled with so much cute Japanese plushies, stationery, games, figurines and more. We went in to browse the options and soak in the AC (to get out of the heat). There was some cute plushie that I wanted but was wayyy too big to fit in my luggage and I didn't want to carry it while walking around the plaza. Service was off but staff was sweet and kind. They have some of the popular viral Labubu behind counter but extremely overpriced. Rest of the store has tons of other blind boxes and kawaii items. Kids and adults would love this shop. I hurried to Little Tokyo when I saw on their Instagram page that they were going to have The Monsters x One Piece. Business actually messaged me back when I asked if there was a limit on purchase and they assured there wasn't. They confirmed that although online quantity was sold out, they would have them in the Little Tokyo location the next day. I arrived to Japanese Village Plaza a little over 25 minutes before they actually opened and waited right in front. When staff arrived to open up shop they said they don't know what I was talking about, I showed them pictures. They repeated that if they don't have it, they don't have it. I pressed them on contacting business owner and/or their manager as it wasn't fair that we waited to make sure to get our hands on the limited supply of The Monsters x One Piece. It wasn't just myself, there was a handful of other people that wanted and waited for these before shop opened. 40 minutes after opening they finally got a hold of someone and they agreed to hold the quantity we wanted and gave us a call back when their shipment arrived. Shipment arrived over an hour after opening. I stayed around as it wouldn't make sense for me to travel back to where I came from and come back (traffic, distance, time). I was scouring Little Tokyo for smiskis and while I didn't have much luck anywhere, I was able to find some of the smiski toothbrush holders here. I was a little wary about the authenticity of these, because they were just in clear little bags. But I also kind of liked it because I could choose which one I wanted, and they seem real enough to me! Oh we loved this shop! I went with my teen the day after curfew was lifted in the area. Some buildings still had their plywood up so it was a little hard to figure out what shops were what, however when we walked in here we were not disappointed. I highly suggest you take your business elsewhere. This place overcharges everything that can be found online for a fraction of the price. My spouse recently went in to buy a Labubu, picked a Big into Energy Blindbox, which retails at $27.99. The price was not on the box, which is strange to begin with. Thinking they could see the price at the cashier, they handed the blind box, only for the cashier not even mention the price at all, and only ask, "is that it? are you buying this? there are other customers waiting...". They did not hand a receipt or anything and waved my spouse out of the store. A day later, my spouse checks their bank account, and to their surprise, they see a charge for $87.79. I always love visiting Little Tokyo during a trip to LA. This cute little store was actually a hidden gem for me! While I had visited once in 2023, visiting again in 2025 was a different experience! If you love blind boxes, this place is definitely the spot! They carry various blind boxes-- most popular being POP MART Labubus, Sonny Angels, and various Sanrio character blind boxes! If you also like anything Sanrio themed, Funko Pops, plushies, and snacks... they have it! Purchased (2) Labubus from the Exciting Macaron set for $40 each. They carried some special edition Sonny Angels as well for ~$45. Unsure if their stock is constantly changing, but I got lucky. Would visit again! read more

Please note that the store is very cramped inside, and the walkways are too narrow for two people to walk comfortably. The line can also get quite long as there are only two cashier stations. I tried to inquire about the Labubu's and they wouldn't look at me and just seem irritated by me trying to potentially buy something so I left. The good: I've been here 3-4 times and enjoy perusing the gifts, toys, posters, pens, and plushies. Everything is super kawaii (cute) in here. It's a fun Japanese gift shop with many Chinese items as well. They also have beauty products. I got a super cute Hello Kitty camera keychain here for my toddler that had a little view master inside and projector. It was to distract her on the long ride home. The bad: Everything is super expensive! I wanted to get a little ball toy but most of the toys were over $10. The line to pay was long and the lady working the register wasn't moving rapidly. The aisles are very crowded and cramped and may only fit one person at a time. Strollers would be difficult in here. The interesting: Neko means cat in Japanese. I visited several stores in Little Tokyo yesterday but this one hands down is my favorite! I'm so glad I came in here. I'm 34 but I felt like a kid in a candy shop. So many cute and unique Hello Kitty/Sanrio items. They've got plush keychains, tons of stickers and stationary, pencil cases and pens, purses, plushies, blind boxes, snacks, cosmetics! A little bit confused with the identity of this shop due to mixture of Chinese, Japanese and Korean products while the store is located in the Little Tokyo and named in Japanese but still a cool place to shop knick-knacks. Some products has great quality, others are cheap and the prices are all over the place but if you compare with other stores, you'll definitely find what you want/need. I would give a better rating, however this store sold me old keychains that were smelly. The Keychain was wrapped in a plastic so I would have not been able to open it in the store and it was smelly and sticky when I opened it. I did not now what it was but it smelled like chemicals and it was not washable. I also got some other stuff but majority was these four keychains that wasted me $12. I highly do not recommend this store or at least this location. You should be careful of what you buy, but still this should not have been on the shelf to begin with.
