Walking inside instantly triggered so much nostalgia for the cute little bookstores and stationary shops I visited when I was in Japan. Everything is so neatly arranged and wrapped. They have an incredible selection of books in both English and Japanese. Seriously, they have everything you can think of: manga, magazines, cookbooks, adorable plushies, stationery, and T-shirts. When we went, they even had some amazing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure artwork on the wall and tons of Pokémon merch. My friend and I stopped by right after the anime convention ended, and the place was packed. Because it gets so busy, they have a strict "no drinks" policy, resulting in a hilariously massive pile of boba and coffees left at the front entrance. The employees seemed overwhelmed & nobody greeted us. My only real critique: Prepare yourself for the price tags. Everything is extremely overpriced. I saw a pretty basic black T-shirt featuring a famous Japanese artist's work going for $60. I get that it's specialty import stuff, but it's definitely an investment! Tip: It's a fantastic place to visit, but if you want to actually browse the Studio Ghibli or anime sections without fighting a crowd, try to come during the week!

Much better choices in the LA area with staff that are actually helpful, friendly, and professional. This was a one-and-done. I was so put off, I left without purchasing anything. I was actually pissed that after being treated so poorly, my friend chose to spend ANY money there. The responses to reviews on here are just as cold and patronizing so obviously it's a systemic problem If yelp allowed me to leave zero stars I would. Same amount of money I ended up spending there.

If you're passionate about ink, calligraphy, anything that has to do with writing, specialized, stationary, cards made by local artists may be even by one of the employees for a variety of occasions. This is the place to come. My description is only a brief list of the Services and products that they offer. Fernanda it's not only knowledgeable, but definitely the pen expert in the building. She kindly and patiently explained to me the differences between length, width, color and materials when it comes to penmanship. I had the pleasure of also utilizing their gift wrapping services, which is also something I highly recommend. They have some wonderful choices in the store, but you can also bring your own, which I definitely did. I love how all the prices are clearly labeled for every item even the smallest of attachments. This let someone immediately know the value of an item and what is required to obtain the goals for a project that someone is pursuing.

[Products]: Most of the stickers are original artwork with only a few anime IPs (less than 1/8 of all stickers). I thought their LA County stickers (including some cities from San Bernardino County) for each city were pretty neat. The shop also has some decent Japanese-brand notebooks, toolboxes, pens, etc. Customers can also make their own through the website by uploading their own images (minimum order of 50 stickers). [Conclusion]: The store is not everyone's cup of tea, but for the right target customers this is an amazing store.

They also had a lot of traditional items/supplies for tea ceremonies, calligraphy, and kimonos. I had fun looking through all the items as it brought me back to our summer in Japan. Apparently they have a long standing history in LA, having opened in 1946 after World War II. The shop occupies the site of the first Japanese-owned business in Los Angeles, circa 1890's. Pretty cool! I have a soft spot for everything animal shaped and soo.... I picked up a fun/odd felt tiger Christmas ornament, a cat pen, and a super cute bronze cat shaped spoon that hangs on the side of your cup. Did I need it? No.... but it's fun and makes me happy. Haha! Overall, great shop to browse around and find some unique gift items. They even wrap up your purchases in paper bags like they do in Japan. I LOVE IT!
