Really good food with authentic tastes. My fiancé ordered the beef Shewarma and said it was the second best he has tried; The best was last year in Qatar. I had the chicken shewarma plate with a side of hummus and tabouli- great flavors and in large portions. My favorite item ordered was the mint lemonade. I am a usual fan of Aleppo Kitchen falafel pieces in brookhurst st, anaheim. I thought this time i should pass by Mangal since it is right next to my place and it is managed by Aleppo kitchen as well so it wouldn't make a difference. Mangal is just some sort of express version of the original restaurant. Anyhow, i asked for 2 falafel wraps and i got what i want with huuuuuge disappointment. Definitely , the falafels were pre-fried earlier (hours earlier).... And when i placed my order, they re-fried it again. Which makes it oily and way too far from being crispy. I am sorry for my straightforward opinion. The yummiest thing about Falafels is the crisp and smell and taste. My $20 sandwich tasted like anything but falafel. It must be fried on spot, not prepared before hand. And never heat a falafel or re-fry it. read more

While in the Packing House recently I was craving some Shawarma so we decided to go with Mangal. I was really looking forward to Lamb but Beef & Chicken were their only options. I went with the Beef and it was decent, nothing that stood out too much. We also had a Chicken Kabob plate which wasn't bad, not terrific or anything. Mangal is Legit! Spread the word! Some facts about this place.. -It's family owned.. same family that owns Aleppo's off Brookhurst. -You can say it's Mediterranean.. But technically it's Syrian inspired. -Yes.. this place is Halal which has a lot to do with how they prepare their food. IMO.. halal is clean and fresh and light! I'm on a vegetarian kick right now so I couldn't try any of their meat offerings.. so I got the falafel wrap! It was one of the best falafels I've had here in SoCal.. hands down! They split the wrap in two large portions.. all for $7 bucks. Great deal (in or out of the Packing House!). If you're browsing the reviews for this place and wondering how good it is.. Call me! Sadly, I have to file this one under the most disappointing Mediterranean food I have ever had. I've walked by this place many times and noticed that there's never a line, and many things are crossed off as unavailable on the menu which looks extremely unprofessional. I ordered the kefta plate and when I received it, it looked nothing like the photos and the portion was tiny. The menu says the meal comes with hummus but when the cashier asks if you want hummus, they upcharge you by $1. The hummus had too much olive oil in it and smelled remotely like paint thinner. Darcy has lunch here a few weeks back. I was in the mod for something on the lighter side and that's not really what the Anaheim Packing District is all about. We shared a combo meal that included beef shawarma and falafel along with salad and rice. I also ordered a side of baba ganoush. The baba ganoush was the standout dish that day. It was creamy and flavorful. The other parts of the meal were fine, but nothing special. The restaurants at the Packing District are on the pricey side but I think that goes with the Foodie territory. I'm pretty sure you could get the same meal, or better, for less money a few streets over but you wouldn't have the vibe or ambience that the Packing District affords. On the whole, this place was good but if you're going to lay out this kind of cash in this kind of environment, why not try something a little more exciting? read more

I've been to the other places at the Packing District and I was looking for something that I haven't tried yet. I recently found that I love falafel and baba ganoush. I had recently found a place that made a nice Smokey baba ganoush. I am not a fan of eggplant but when done right it can become a fantastic hummus/spread, that is baba ganoush. I wanted falafel, taboule salad, and baba ganoush. It was served with rice and a salad. The salad was lacking of flavor, it could have been dressed with some vinegar or something that would go with my dishes. The falafel was out of the park and flavorful. The baba ganoush was right on par and met my expectations. The taboule salad missed the mark. The parsley used was too much for this dish. It lacked other flavors such as mint and onions. It seemed like it was thrown together quickly and they fell short of tomatoes. Maybe if they used the flat parsley it might have made a difference. Everything else was exactly how I wanted it. I would recommend this place and the falafel. I would make it back here to try the shawarma and the other dishes. I would just stay away from the taboule salad. read more

I had a few questions about some of the choices, and had them all answered easily. I got the chicken shawerma, with tabouli and grape leaves wrap thing (i forget what they're called) as sides. It comes with rice and pita, and a choice of sauce. With a drink it was about 16 dollars (grape leaves a dollar extra). A little expensive, but i think everything at Anaheim packing house is at a premium. The food was pretty good. The chicken seemed a tad dry, though I don't eat shawerma often enough to compare it. It was wrapped in thin Syrian style bread. The falafel was undercooked--it's really hard to find a place that cooks it's falafel thoroughly, but there are a few places I know of elsewhere. I also order the muhammara which is made with walnut, pomegranate molasses and tomato paste. This is one of my favorites things, but I couldn't enjoy the dip because the bread we were served was cold and hard! I was really disappointed by this. My husband and I discovered the Anaheim Packing House today. There are so many places to choose from in this large upscale food court, but we decided to try Middle Eastern food at Mangal. It did not disappoint. For $12.00 we got a huge plate of chicken shawerma that came with rice and 2 sides plus pita bread. We selected hummus and tabouli for our sides. Everything was excellent and more food than we could possibly eat. Definitely the best value when comparing prices to other restaurants in the Packing House. My husband and I ordered the falafel wrap with French fries and a drink, and the grape leaves. The order took a long time to make and they were very apologetic, and even gave us free baklava. The French fries were amazing! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The wrap was good, but I wouldn't call it great. I did love the pickled crunchy vegetables in it. I will definitely go back to try the kebobs and the Turkish coffee. The service was GREAT which is unusual for the Packing House. Just dropped in at the packing house and try this middle eastern food ,had pita bread with kabob this joint is grrrrrreat.

We ordered the steak kabobs plate and asked for the steak medium rare. Our plate came with a hefty serving of hummus, rice and side salad. The hummus was delicious and it went so well with the steak and pita bread. The salad was also delicious and I really liked the dressing. The steak shawarma was probably the best I've had. It was cooked exactly how we wanted it and the meat was so soft. We would definitely come back here next time we crave kabobs! read more

Oh Packing House. You are truly hit or miss. Since this was new to the Packing House and none of the other surviving food places sounded good that day, we decided to try Mangal. I got the kebab plate with the spiced beef, hummus, baba ganoush. The pita bread didn't feel super fresh, which isn't a deal breaker but there really is nothing like fresh pita bread. I'll be honest, I got baba ganoush because it's fun to say and I thought I should try it at some point in my life. It grew on me by the end, but it's not my favorite thing ever. Everything else was just okay. In true Packing House fashion, they took good food and made it okay and overpriced. And I only say overpriced because most other restaurants of this type have significantly more food at this price point for their plate specials.
