I placed an online order for the baked fish plate around 12:45 PM and expected a bit of a wait since it was fish. After waiting about 25 minutes, I called and was told it would be another 10-15 minutes. The restaurant was busy, so I understood. However, after waiting longer and checking inside twice, my order still wasn't ready and there seemed to be confusion about its status. In total, I waited close to an hour for an order that was placed online in advance. What bothered me most was seeing customers who ordered in person receive their food before me. It felt like my online order had been overlooked. If online ordering is offered, those orders should be monitored and fulfilled properly, especially during busy times. The food itself was good, but the plate could have been put together better. The fries were placed directly on top of the fish, which made them soggy and took away from the presentation. It would make much more sense to serve the fries on the side. We got a salad with balsamic dressing. It was cool and refreshing. I loved the pita chips that added a fun crunch to the salad. We also got some hummus. I love hummus and this was so rich and creamy. One of my coworkers is from Lebanon, so we along with some other friends from work went on a Tuesday night. I learned that the restaurant name translates loosely to oil & spices in Arabic, and the restaurant delivers wonderfully in both. Zait and Zaatar is a casual dine in restaurant and bakery operating mainly from its take out counter - my friend noted that rarely do Lebanese places offer both a bakery and a sit down space serving shawermas such as this one. We ordered a little bit of everything off their expansive menu, so much so that the staff had to bring in an extra table in order to pile on more plates. I loved their signature Zait & Zaatar and Haloumi from their Bakery section, both served as a form of flatbread. The Zait & Zaatar in particular was baked with a delicate blend of spices that was so fragrant and unique. We then each ordered a Saj wrap - I loved my Sojuq Wrap, which was slightly spicy, with the ground beef complementing the crunchy pickles perfectly. Back then, I stopped coming because of the constant tension, yelling, and unprofessional behavior between staff members right in front of customers. I decided to give the place another chance recently, hoping things had improved. Sadly, nothing changed. The same attitude was there from the moment we walked in. No smile, no welcoming atmosphere, no basic friendliness. The person running the front acted bothered the entire time. While waiting, I even watched another customer become visibly frustrated during her interaction, mentioning it was her first time there after being recommended the restaurant by a friend. Again, the food itself was good. I want to be fair about that. But customer service matters just as much as the food. People want to feel welcomed and respected when they walk into a restaurant. It also felt like one person was trying to do everything at once, cashier, cooking, managing customers, and the place simply didn't have enough staff to operate smoothly. The stress and frustration unfortunately gets passed directly onto customers. Zait & Zaatar is such a hidden gem in Anaheim! It's a cozy little Mediterranean spot with fresh, made-to-order dishes and some fun, unique twists. One of my favorite parts was watching the food being cooked right in the fire oven--you can literally see everything coming together in real time. I tried the cheese and zaatar bread, and it was so delicious--crispy, flavorful, and super comforting. The potatoes were to die for! so crispy on the outside and so fluffy on the inside. They also have a mini bakery section, perfect if you're just stopping by for a snack or something quick to-go. Their drink selection is also unique--lots of options you won't find at your typical spot. On top of that, the owner and staff are incredibly friendly, and the portions are generous for the price. Definitely a place I'll be coming back to--can't wait to try more from their menu! read more
