This is such an incredible restaurant and Carlos has provided such an excellent service. The food was amazing and such a beautiful ambiance. We did sit outside and enjoyed a beautiful Florida weather while enjoying our delicious lunch. I had beef kebab plate. My husband had falafel plate and lentil soup. All food was freshly cooked and such high quality. We also ordered Oblepikha tea and were so impressed how delicious it was. Definitely highly recommending this place!

First of all, Carlos is great! The Lamb Lyulya kebab and falafel pita were incredible I don't eat lamb but Carlos was super helpful in suggesting a dish and I wasn't disappointed Will be back!!

This place was pretty good. Our server, Daniel, was friendly and helpful. I wanted a beer but didn't know which one I wanted of their three German options, so he gave me his recommendation (Spaten) and it hit the spot. For dinner I got a shawarma platter of lamb and chicken, with rice. It was mostly lamb, but both meats were good. I liked the lamb more, so I was happy that was the majority. The rice was pretty flavorful too, and the side salad it comes on/with paired nicely with it. My wife got the shakshuka shawarma, because she loves shakshuka. It was pretty good! It was interesting and different compared to the other shakshuka we have had, since it was topped with lamb, but it worked. The lavash it came with was OK, but the main dish was still really good. The food was good, the service was good, and the prices were good, but there are two reasons for this review being four stars instead of five. First, the water service could have been better. They only give water when requested, which is fine because I'm all for saving water, but they only give a very small cup, and in a disposable cup. It was just odd to not have a normal glass of water with dinner. Second, the timing of the food coming out was not great. My wife's shakshuka took a bit to cook (as it should since it takes some time when made fresh), but my shawarma plate came out nearly right away. It makes sense that mine came out so quick, since shawarma is a quick dish to prepare, but since it is so quick, they should have waited until closer to when my wife's dish was ready. Instead, I sat awkwardly waiting, letting it cool, then we decided I should eat it instead of waiting, and then I was almost done by the time she got her dinner. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in town. And if they iron out the water and timing issues, it will be five stars next time!

I've tried a good share of Mediterranean restaurant and I think this one has an interesting flare to their menu. They not only offer European style but they also offer Turkish and Israeli style flavors. Instead of just pita bread, they offer lavash which is a thin pita like bread that has a bit of crunch. We ordered the lavash chicken and lamb shawarma which was not overly filling in comparison to if it was in a pita. We also ordered the potatoes and mushrooms and I would give it a chef's kiss. I love how the rosemary flavor is palpable and not overpowering. The cake of the day was the cherry on top as it was a pomegranate layered cake. Seems like it was a cookie crust layer but I'm not sure. Overall, the staff was friendly and I would recommend again because it's a family own shop!

AMAZING! If you like to eat Mediterranean food, I have the place for you. Mangal on 17066 Collin's Ave., is the place. By happenstance, I went into the parking lot of this strip mall and parked in front of this restaurant. The best decision was going in. Carlos took amazing care us. He was extremely detailed explaining the different foods and their preparation. The ambiance of the place is nice with great music and vibe. We first got some hummus and some kibble. The kibble were just like my mom used to make and the hummus took me back to Israel. The shawarmas were delectable with your choice of European, Israeli or Turkish preparation. I was totally amazed by this small place that I am making it a staple for me. Try this place, you will love it!

My experience did not match all the good reviews I have read on google and yelp. We visit this restaurant on Saturday night while vacationing in Florida. The staff worked very hard to keep up with patrons demands, but the food was a disappointment. The soup kharcho was served cold, had to ask our server to heat it up. The mangal salad was not fresh, tasted like it was sitting in refrigerator for days. The lamb kabab was not cooked to order. It tasted like it was pre-cooked early in the day and microwaved to serve. Not a good experience

Flavors were amazing and the portions are very generous as well. First time trying and was very pleased. Will definitely try other items on the menu if I'm in the neighbourhood again!

Great shawarma with plenty of options to choose from. Fairly priced, and the portions was great. The staff was amazing and we enjoyed our conversations there. Highly recommend.

The person who seemed to be the owner personally checked on us multiple times, and offered nice suggestions for entrees based on our tastes. The other servers as well were really nice too. My favorites of the entire meal were the manti (Turkish dumplings) and the chicken soup. The manti were small beef dumplings served in a delicious tangy yogurt sauce with some sort of spicy oil on top. They were very filling. The chicken soup was rich, with chicken, carrots, celery and parsley. It had a nice lemon note as well. The entrees - the kabab and the guvec - were hearty and had good flavor. The guvec was really hot (temp wise) because of the clay pot. Kunefe rounded out the meal. Could have used a bit more nuts but otherwise great. Great little spot for dinner!

The menu is a melange of Russian, Turkish, Uzbek, and generically Mediterranean offerings. To start, we had the Mediterranean-leaning "combo platter" with baba ghanoush, hummus, and tzatziki ($16) and the Russian-leaning herring with potatoes ($15; "tomato, cucumber, carrot, mushroom, cabbage, kimchi"). These were so-so. The baba ghanoush and hummus were both extremely smooth, almost whipped in consistency, almost unpleasantly salty. (We love salt and don't shy away from it at all -- but this was excessive.) I personally love a few chunks of eggplant in my baba ghanoush (like a beautiful Jordanian version I had earlier in the day from a stand in Aventura Mall) and a lot more tahini in my hummus, but of course these are stylistic differences / preferences. Tzatziki was very garlicky. The combo came with sliced cucumbers and a bit of pita -- but not anywhere near enough for our family. We did end up eating the surfeit of spreads with our main courses, so all ended well. Herring with potatoes was nothing like the menu description. Instead, it came with, yes, just pickled herring and roasted potatoes (and a huge, huge mound of thinly sliced raw onion, a few sprigs of parsley, a sprinkle of dill, a sliver of lemon). The baby potatoes were nicely roasted, but the pickled herring was quite mediocre, a touch mushy, and almost certainly not prepared in-house. The only distinctively Uzbek dish we tried was the Fried Lagman ($19; "stir-fried hand-pulled noodles in a mix of beef and vegetables, served with eggs"). I can't speak to its authenticity, but it was made with well-textured noodles topped by tender, well seasoned beef, bell peppers, grape tomatoes, and very thinly slivered omelette. The progeny who ordered it enjoyed it very much. Beef shawarma ($19; "cooked on a vertical grill, served in pita bread with tomato, cucumber, lettuce, yogurt sauce, and spices, with French fries on the side") was beautifully presented, a generous portion of thickly-sliced meat wrapped in a very thin layer of flatbread (lavash and not pita?) with a crisscross grill pattern. The Beef Kebab ($24; served with french fries and tomato sauce) was moist and tender, well seasoned. I think the slightly bland tomato sauce was meant for dipping, but the beef didn't need any accoutrements. Fries were fair, either undersalted or not salted at all. I wish we'd held on to the ketchup that had been served with the fries that came with the shawarma. The grilled branzino ($38) was nicely prepared, a medium-sized (about 1 lb) fish beautifully grilled and drizzled with reduced balsamic, served with salad, rice and a side of lemon. The skin was crisp, the fish fresh. Note that food is brought out as it's prepared and some mains may come more quickly than others. We didn't have a huge problem with this as our manners free family is under orders to eat food when it arrives, while it's hot, rather than to wait until everyone's food arrives. Also, we generously poach from one another's plates, and the last one to get her food hadn't been all that hungry for dinner to begin with. The eat-it-as-it-arrives policy turned out to be a good one since the lag time between arrival of the first main and arrival of the last was about 40 minutes. The first few to receive their meals would've had to eat their food stone cold. Sim Sim doesn't serve alcohol, but does have a beautiful tea service and hookah, and allows diners to BYOB without corkage. (All the Russian diners around us seem to have gone the BYOB route and ordered a hookah, which we also didn't see advertised in house.) It's in a strip mall as most restaurants are in this part of Florida, but has pleasant-enough outdoor and indoor seating areas. The outdoor seating is beach style. Think: white plastic chairs and tables. There was a single low wooden Uzbek style dining table on a platform outdoors and perhaps one indoors as well, IIRC. Our wait staff was very pleasant. One server gently pushed salad and Uzbek bread on us, which we declined, but sort of wish we hadn't after watching nearby diners who were probably of Uzbek descent. We're dining with vegetarians on our remaining days in the area, who wouldn't have enough protein options here, but do wish we had time for a return visit. Bookmarked for our next trip.

This was our first time here and Ahmet, our server, took great care of us. We weren't familiar with all the dishes on the menu, but he took his time going over the menu with us, made great recommendations on dishes to try, and just provided us with great service overall. We started our lunch with two glasses of red wine from Turkey and the wine was truly spectacular. It was light yet full of aroma and flavor and went perfectly with our meal. Highly recommend trying a glass of wine you can't find anywhere else on a menu. We ordered the Turkish Pozza from the lunch menu to share and it was one of the best dishes I've ever had. It was truly one of a kind and I'll be back just for this dish, it was so good. Super thin, perfectly crispy pizza, topped with finely ground beef, onions, tomatoes, and parsley it was so full of flavor it was absolutely delicious. For lunch, the pizza was only $10 too, what a great price for a truly special dish. All I have to say is, try it, you won't be disappointed! For our meal we ordered the chicken shish kabob served with rice and it was also very good. The chicken was a little charred which I really liked. We also ordered a side of asparagus to go with our meal and it was delicious as well. For desert I usually stick to Baklava since it's one of my favorites but our server really recommended the homemade Kunefe and the Turkish Mariah Ice Cream and told us we had to try them together so we decided to try something different. The deserts came out topped with a little bit of pistachio and they were also one of the best deserts I've ever had. They should be served together on the menu because our server was right they went perfectly together. The ice cream was special in of itself, I've never had ice cream made from goat milk, but it was so good, you have to try it as well. It had a thicker, more stretchy texture to it, than regular ice cream and wasn't as sweet which I loved and it was just absolutely amazing. We didn't even know it was made from goat milk till after we tried it, I'm so happy we did. The Kunefe was really good as well, it arrived warm, and the crispy shredded phyllo dough was coated in sweet syrup and went perfectly with the ice cream. Perfectly balancing each other. Highly recommend. Overall, I was really impressed with the food at Sumak Restaurant and I look forward to returning another day soon!
