First off, Japanese cuisine pulls the weight in this restaurant. I didn't try Thai so can't speak for that. Korean, but oh that Korean cuisine.. I guess this is as good as it gets for Korean food in Melbourne. And even though the restaurant had the Korean decor and K drama was playing on TVs, the food wasn't Korean enough. It was disappointing. I had the most lackluster seafood pancake ever with bland mix and not enough seafood. I could have made that when I was 10. The seafood soft tofu tasted like it was made with ramen seasoning packet. Not spicy at all. I didn't get my side dishes aka banchans and I had to ask for it. At first, this blonde waitress who is otherwise super nice, didn't think my meal came with it. Um, excuse me? So I said "...my Korean meal doesn't come with kimchi banchan?!" I gasped. Loudly. Audibly. In distress. Someone else heard my woeful comment and corrected her, saying that I do indeed get it with my meals. She apologized and brought them out. 4 banchans. Two kimchi's, one Napa and one slaws, and 1 black beans, and 1 seaweed mix. I fought hard to get them, but they were meh. Not good kimchi, unfortunately. We did get dragon roll and riding roll and they were excellent. So that is why there is a third star. So go for Japanese and you will be less disappointed. read more

First time I went here I got some ramen and almost instantaneously fell in love with the place. It is always busy so be prepared for a little wait time to be seated. Personally, sitting and the bar holds the best spot in the house, you get to watch the chefs also prepare sushi in front of you and it's a marvel to see. The menu is absolutely wonderful sharing items between Korean, Japanese and Thai food delicacies. I only give four stars for the drinks since it is just a small can of soda and the water (which is the only one that gets refills) is from the tap, bleh.. but otherwise a good time and a great place for food! Went for an early dinner last night and it sure was a good thing that we went early!! It was a rainy Wednesday evening in off season and by 6:30 people were lined up at the door. They only have wine and beer license, but it includes a fairly extensive saki list. We started with shrimp tempura served with plentiful tempura veggies and 2 sauces, one sweet chili and the other a slightly sour soy based sauce. I loved them together as a sweet and sour, hubby liked the sour and mom the sweet. We also had the seafood, green onion pancake. Delicious, but needed a touch of soy. For dinner we had the Korean bbq. I'd first had Korean bbq in Austin, TX, one of the US's foodie capitals and had been disappointed. But decided to give it another go. We had the short ribs (golbi) and the prime rib (bulgogi). It came with assorted sides, including, of course, kimchi. I especially liked the pickled carrot and pickled onions. It also came with a sweet, and only slightly spicy sauce and beautiful leaves of red leaf lettuce. Finally I know why people flock to Korean bbq! It was delicious and those 2 meats were more than the three of us could eat. Give it a try! You won't be sorry read more

Just moved to the Melbourne area and even though I haven't tried too many places yet, this is probably one of my favorite Asian places so far. Came here twice already. First time I ordered a curry and the second time I ordered kimchi fried rice. Both were tasty. They give you 6 little bowls (kimchi, 2 types of beans, pickled cabbage, bean sprouts and 1 other items) as free appetizer. We Have been coming here since they opened & over the years Food quality has gone down - probably due to the fact they have been slammed since becoming popular a few years ago and can't keep up with demand. The food used to be awesome & this review is geared towards our most recent visit. They close at 9:30 on a Saturday, which anywhere else would mean they stop taking tables at 9:30 and everyone inside by then would be free to finish their meal as they start closing up. We were sat at 9:15, knowing they were closing soon we hurried to order and eat as to not keep staff waiting on us. When we were sat the entire restaurant was still full. At 9:47 they turned the music off, we had not received our food yet. At 9:54 they brightened all the lights to announce it was time to wrap things up. The ambiance once they turned the music off totally changed. It was super awkward but we still hadn't received the rest of our food so we sat there in silence. Once the food arrived that was a different story; I got the dolsat bibimbap l, which I always get. The stone bowl was not as hot as normal, my food which should be very hot and sizzling when it reached the table was warm at best. They also used reconstituted shiitake mushrooms that were chewy and unpleasant. Our sashimi was cut way too thick - quality of the fish was good but the butchery made it hard to chew. overall we were neglected in service towards the end because the staff was too busy rushing to close up the restaurant and preform side duties. Being a manager in hospitality, I would never prioritize closing duties over ambiance and service for my customers. read more

I happened upon this wonderful restaurant while staying at The Hotel Melby in Melbourne, FL. I went there for dinner on Wednesday and then for lunch & dinner on Thursday. If they would have been opened for breakfast, I would have gone Thursday & Friday as well. The food was so incredibly delicious and very reasonably priced (about the same as if you ate at any fast food chain). The portions were more than expected. I had the Spicy Pork Bulgogi twice and the Beef Bulgogi once. The food is not the only reason to visit. The staff & owner were second to none. The owner noticed that I had been there twice already and introduced herself to me, make me feel very welcome. Any other review that say the service was terrible, everyone has a bad day now & again. *REVIEW FOR MANGETSU OVERALL* I have a very unique experience when it comes to Mangetsu because I discovered the restaurant by accident. Prior to becoming the popular Asian restaurant it is now, the building Mangetsu now occupies when through multiple changes all ending in failure. I first remember it being a dinner show followed by becoming a classic American diner. I never got the chance to try them out as such, but at this moment, I do not care. Mangetsu is the best overall Asian restaurant in Brevard County. Upon entering this restaurant, you quickly welcomed in an ambiance of Asian themes such as Lucky Cats, wall scrolls, hanging lamps, and the like. After choosing to sit at a table, booth, or the bar (there is also a private room for parties), the waiter or waitress will take your drink orders. The menu is quite expansive as it includes Korean, Thai, and Japanese food. I took a moment just to see what my options were. Summarized, the Thai food are mostly noodles and curry dishes, Japanese food is mostly sushi, and Korean food are mostly foods popularized through the Hallyu Wave (Korean Wave). It is evident Mangetsu concentrates on their Korean dishes more so than any other. This was recognized when the waiter or waitress brings out Korean side dishes along with your drink orders. Without detailing each, they are usually different cuts and flavors of radish, beans, and kimchi. The sides are usually there for nitpicking because rice is lacking at the moment, but once your meals arrive, they can be used as additional flavor. I had multiple meals here including the Bibimbap (white rice, seasoned veggies, beef, and an egg) mixed with gochujang (chili pepper paste), and that includes the version cooked in a dolsot (stone bowl) and Jajangmyeon (noodles mixed with black beans and pork) a popular street dish in Korea. However, it is their Korean barbecue which takes center stage especially tables that have the grill built in so patrons can grill their meat. The three meats I suggest are bulgogi (beef), galbi (short ribs), and samgyupsal (bacon). The meats are usually eaten with rice and veggies in a lettuce wrap. Ultimately, I have to say Mangetsu is the best Asian restaurant overall in the county. True there are restaurants that do Japanese food better (Umami Sushi Bar and Restaurant) or Thai food better (Jao Thai Kitchen), but for an Asian restaurant with choices, Mangetsu is the place to go. As for Korean food. I am thankful Mangetsu does a phenomenal job with it because they are technically the only restaurant that utilizes Korean food. The only other place I can think of that makes Korean food is the Kyung Song Oriental Market, but they are not a restaurant. P.S. - Don't be afraid to ask the waiter or waitress on suggestions for Korean food or for help on how to cook Korean barbecue. The last thing you want to do is burn your food. read more

So tonight we went to this restaurant in hopes of a great korean bbq experience. Upon arriving we were promptly seated. I have to ve honest and say tgat I noticed a foul mold smell upon entering. Our drink order was taken then promptly received. We then ordered the beef, pork, and korean bacon to grill. While we waited we were given the usual ginger dressing salad which was tasty but nothing special. It took some time to get our meal started since it was obvious our server had to many tables. The sides arrived which were good but nothing really stood out. The meats arrived one by one. The beef ribs were very tasty. The bacon well it was extremely fatty. The pork was very tasty too. There's no Sushi JUST Rice. They don't have the Cavier on top of the sushi anymore either!!Don't waste your money on sushi there, you will be very disappointed!!! Also the Chicken Bulgagi was the only thing decent but the portion is half the sizes and they will not give you a 2nd portion/refill on the kimichi, diagon peppers that it comes with, without charging you extra.
